Lol @ how much The Weeknd has eclipsed Frank since 2011.

I know there was hella people saying Frank would be a bigger name.

This might be blasphemous in this thread, but I vehemently disagree. Channel Orange >* that album was a masterpiece fam.

No shade at The Weeknd but I can almost guarantee you that Frank's album will garner more attention than Abel's.

Fax, b.

Pretty much. Except I don't think CO is better than HoB or Kissland.

But they're two different artists and seem to have switched places with their mystery since they arrived in music. The Weeknd wants to be...out. And Frank has gone into himself. And while Frank hasn't had a song chart as high as Earned It, he's definitely more widely known, anticipated and critically acclaimed. It'll be a much bigger deal.

The Weeknd might be my favorite artist ever, but even I'm anticipating an Ocean album more.

i like Frank Ocean but i rank the Weeknd higher on my list, both musically and as a preference
trilogy, and kissland > CO

dont want to be that guy, but lets not forget the attention and pub Frank got by coming out.

Frank already had the most talked about/highly anticipated album before he said that he loved a man though.

wow.. we're doing Frank Ocean vs Weeknd again?

Frank Ocean is more dynamic as a musician than Weeknd. Weeknd is a one trick pony who can cleverly reword the content and deliver the same 2-3 songs each time.

Everything about the two has already been said on this page. Personally I was blown away by (what would be known as) 'Trilogy' more-so than Nostalgia Utlra. However, I haven't heard much growth from Abel ever since. Sleeping with women, drugs, and fame are all that he's singing about, just rewording it each time. It sounds great, don't get me wrong, but content-wise, all his songs are the same. I'm much looking forward to Frank Ocean's new album than anything new from Weeknd because Channel Orange showcased a very important aspect from Frank: growth. With Weeknd, production aside, he's still the same as he was in 2011.

Preference is one thing but now you're not speaking factually. If you listen and understand Kiss Land, and say Weeknd hasn't evolved since 2011.... that's just flat out wrong

Calling dude a one trick pony?

again, if you prefer Frank over Weeknd by all means...

Abel disco > Frank Disco

I hardly need to ever skip any of the the weeknds tracks.

Frank on the other hand, many tracks can be skipped.

Look at both artists discography as a whole. And yes I will debate this battle with how many tracks are skip-able. It's only fair. All your other points are completely invalid.

Therefore, the weeknd is the young gawd and the only gawd.

Case closed.

Once again, loooove The Weeknd...and I don't disagree.

He sings about the same things, content wise. He became a *much* better song writer, but it's all pretty much in the same lane: Meeting women already involved in his lifestyle or introducing them to said lifestyle, party, drugs, apathy, jaded, the reason he can't love you, regret (theirs or his, usually theirs), releasing them back into the wild.

That's pretty much the pattern. He's made that song 30 times.

Can I ask what other artists rap or sing about? You guys love to box him in like other artists don't stay in their lanes either

I get that Kissland is the world he's in after the fame.. leaving Toronto for the first time, performing on stage, basically becoming a mainstream. But is what he's saying really different than what he was saying on Trilogy?

What does Frank write and sing about?

What does Frank write and sing about?

Love, Religion, Spoiled kids, women, relationship with music, forrest gump, Impregnating a woman when he was younger, a story about a man dealing with drug addiction.

You accused me of not understanding Kissland, but I don't think you took the time to really listen to Channel Orange. I'm not here to try to have you denounce your young gawd; I'm only chiming in on the comparisons between Frank Ocean and Weeknd

Incorrect, I never once said Frank hasn't evolved like you said Weeknd hasn't evolved. There's a major difference

I wasn't accusing you of not understanding Kiss Land, I was saying you're flat out wrong by saying he hasn't evolved since 2011

Are all of those topics that much more evolved than Weeknd? They already share Love, women, relationship with music and drug addiction

I'm not here to denounce Frank either, I'm only chiming in on your incorrect characterizations of the Weeknd

You keep saying I'm wrong but you're not stating how or why. He talks about the same thing in all of his songs (except for maybe Devil May Cry).

How many times you stick up for your 'god'? Often?

The stories that he tells on KL: Professional, Pretty, Tears in the Rain etc. show that he's evolved from Trilogy. I hesitate to even say that because the material on Trilogy IMO isn't to be simplified to the degree it has been by some

You look at most artists and you're going to see them talking about the same subject matter. Does that mean they haven't grown or evolved? I don't believe that's true

It's the yin and the yang; lust/love. Music is subjective, so not everyone is going to feel The Weeknd's music or subject matter. "I'm just tryna live life for the moment, and all these mothaf***** want a real love."

I probably would say I like the Weeknd more, but I feel like it's clear Frank has far better content/growth. He just covers a wider variety of topics in different ways. But then again for that reason that's probably why I don't enjoy as much of Frank's music as the Weeknd's.

Denying that the Weeknd has a fairly set in stone lane as far as song writing/content is just funny.

I think everyone's admitted Weeknd has a set lane. The point is has he not grown or evolved since 2011 like was originally said. I believe that is foolish talk

Most every artist has an established lane and their content remains as such. I think oversimplifying Weeknd's music and boxing him in like some do is what's funny
