Kiss Land didn't sell much and wasn't received well by critics. Most fans have it well below Trilogy. Not surprised it made him make changes to his approach.

Not worried about what the article is saying though. He talked about wanting a handful of tracks like LMH and the result was ICFMF and In The Night. If those are the two radio joints on the album, the rest will be pure piff. In The Night isn't some lighthearted, basic poppy stuff.

Man when I first heard Rolling Stone I was like wow this is amazing.

But when I read the letter to the fans, and really got what he was saying... It easily became one of my favorite tracks by him. The message is too real.

I have faith in Abel, he knows what he's doing.

Basically a month left y'all! It's going to be a great great fall!!!!

#NTXO.

He told us what he would do then he made a pop song called the birds. I love it

Think I'm the only one who likes pop Abel / is excited

The weirdest thing about it all is that now when people figure out that I like The Weeknd, they don't really know what that really means. What it is to live that XO life, or what his original music was really about

They automatically go to the ICFMF and that's the only song they know outside of Love Me Harder and say "oh yeah, the guy who sings those songs". There's a bit of a stigma there (pop)

It weirdly almost makes me semi embarrassed. Sure those songs have some darker tones but it's nothing compared to his core music. I shouldn't give a damn but it's just funny

I'm not doubting him at all but I'm certainly lowering my expectations and my perceptions on this project

Gonna feel super weird copping the physical CD in-store. People thinking I'm copping some pop singer's (or pop group's) album . I didn't think twice when I copped Trilogy and Kiss Land.

See exactly where you're coming from man.

Just these past few months so many people have come up to me rambling "OMG you like the weekend too!? Earned It just speaks to me."

And man I'm happy for the kid. Abel is really doing it out here and getting a lot of attention as of late.

It's whatever... Like y'all said. We still have Trilogy and Kiss Land.

One month left... Lets get it!

The article says that In the Night is the album's "most electric moment". I love that song however I was hoping that would be more of the tame stuff with the bulk being more The Hills. I'm not sure what to take from that comment

Reading the article confirmed what I had already learned to accept. These passages specifically had me a little down, not going to lie. At the same time like I said, you just have to accept it all

On his early recordings, he says, his producers ‘‘would always try to structure it, make it more into a song, and I was always a punk: ‘I hate major chords. I hate structure. I want this song to be eight minutes long.’ It would kill them.’’ Jackson’s lessons seeped in, though. ‘‘My head-space now is, I love choruses,’’ Tesfaye says. ‘‘A chorus is not easy.’’

Jason Quenneville, who is known as DaHeala and is Tesfaye’s engineer and longtime musical collaborator, calls this album Tesfaye’s ‘‘O.K., fine, I’ll play ball’’ moment. ‘‘ ‘Kiss Land’ was, ‘O.K., let’s play baseball,’ but you’re swinging a plate of spaghetti,’’ he says. ‘‘Now it’s like, ‘Fine, I will apply myself, play ball with a ball and stick.’ ’’ Tesfaye has embraced pop’s soothing strictures.

You're not alone at all my man. TBH every true Abel fan I've spoke to is feeling very similar.

This was bound to happen. He was not gonna remain under the radar for forever.

In The Night is a solid track but man... I could really do without it for the album.

I guess I'll be different, and say I don't want an album that reminds me of the trilogy. It'll eventually sound old.

The OG HOB, Thursday, and EoS, will always and forever be timeless to me. I'll be having those three tapes played at my funeral no dambs given.

As for all the new tracks, I love them all.  Why? because I've been with the young gawd ever since the journey began.  As he's been transitioning, so have I.  I can relate to every single track, like this man has written the sound track to my life.

The core of his music will always be what made me, what made him, and it'll be something neither of us will ever regret.  Fax b.

I'm sure @a blinkin  gonna have KOTF playing at his right? Lmao jp.

He already told us, but we didn't want to believe. |I

I'll aways be a fan though. XOXOXO

I never understood people saying that Twenty Eight was symbolism for him entering the mainstream music industry. It's pretty obvious in Rolling Stone but the content in Twenty Eight just never came across as that to me :\.

I read a while it was very similar to the whole Rolling Stone thing.

This explanation was from the KTT thread...

"On a music level this shows that he is leaving behind all the bull **** again and he just wants to put out music for the fans. And like always Valerie represents the OG fans. So when he is being haunted by her he is actually being haunted by the OG fans that want quality music and he knows he would be no where without them.. So he is coming back to us with and he just wanted to make this video to close the chapter and all the media and money that came with it. With a single music video and he is saying that he is going back to the art, the music "

I think the most disappointing factor about The Weeknd going in a different direction is because he sang about things a lot of us could relate to. He represented us. He was our spokesman. We need that representation. We don't want to lose that.
