First half D was kinda meh to me, Manning & Quin getting beat over the top like that wasn't cool though.

Offense solid as usual. Tate gon push Ward for that #2 job.

I didn't realize some of the Ds other mistake til I watched some highlights. The run D was poor, but got the stops when they needed to,
but I can't believe the DBs bit on the play action like that.

And Shiloh Keo looked like he was ready to explode on returns, but once again coverage was awful, dudes running into each other instead
of actually blocking.

Just another update from not too long ago:

After missing the preseason opener, inside linebacker Brian Cushing played 22 snaps against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.

Cushing, who had offseason surgery on his right knee, continued to work back toward full strength on Tuesday.

“He’s doing a lot better,

Some gameday news, updates, etc:

SAN FRANCISCO - The Texans are treating tonight's exhibition against the San Francisco 49ers as if it were a regular-season game.

General manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak have one more game to evaluate players before the first roster reduction that must be done by Tuesday when teams have to get down from 90 to 75.

"I told them (players) I've got (90) guys I'm staring at, and I get to keep 53, so they can do the math," Kubiak said. "They've got a lot of work to do to try to find a way to be on this team.

"All our preparation was like it's a regular-season game. We're going to play our ones (starters) into the third quarter, so it'll probably be the fourth quarter before you see most of the young guys. Remember you're going to turn around four days later and see them for four quarters against Minnesota (Thursday at Minneapolis)."

The upcoming cut doesn't appear to be that difficult for the Texans, but the last one Sept. 3 should be the toughest they have had.

For an offense that has averaged 382.1 yards (2008), 383.1 (2009) and 386.6 (2010) the past three seasons, the decisions won't be so difficult.

The offense isn't looking to get rid of players. It needs players for backup positions.

The Texans have no depth in the offensive line because of injuries. They also haven't had receivers claim the fourth and fifth spots.

The defense is a different story, primarily because of the secondary.

The Texans could use depth in the defensive line. They have used training camp and preseason to find quality depth at linebacker, especially with rookie Brooks Reed and second-year veteran Darryl Sharpton.

Secondary decisions

What the coaches have to decide is how many cornerbacks and safeties to keep. Roster spots are available for the taking.

For instance, veterans Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Jason Allen, Sherrick McManis, Brice McCain and draft choices Brandon Harris (second round) and Roc Carmichael (fourth) give the Texans seven corners.

And Glover Quin, Danieal Manning, Troy Nolan, Quintin Demps, Shiloh Keo, Dominique Barber and Torri Williams give them seven safeties.

Someone has to go, but who?

"Part of it is trying to evaluate and see what everybody can do and what they can't do," defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said about his defense. "That's part of setting up what you do.

"The first group (starters) certainly will be playing like they did last week (Saints). I think some guys will earn their way (for us) to be able to look at them."

Phillips is still teaching his 3-4 system. His calls have been basic during the 2-0 start against the New York Jets and New Orleans.

"What Wade's trying to do is make sure we're getting good at something before we move on," Kubiak said. "It's the third preseason game. Does that mean we throw some full-blown game plan in there? Probably not.

"We're still progressing with what we're doing because we did miss the offseason, so we'll stay to that progression, regardless of what game it is."

The defense has 11 sacks in two games - three more than last preseason. But the Jets' and Saints' starting offense ran the ball well against them.

49ers on deck, still don't like Mario standing up but I'll still be watching to see if he's making steady improvements.

Yea same here, though he did look better last game. They truly should wipe the floor with the 49ers and be up pretty early, then just put
the 2nd string and so on in. But I know they want the starters to play most of the game.

i wanna see the run defense actually accomplish something, see mario pass rush, and no one get hurt.

did schaub just really do that?

Dumb mistake by Schuab to open up.

And I'm also interested in seeing this defense, specifically Mario and Jo. Joseph.
Although a third preseason game is still too small of a sample size to tell if the Mario experiment will work.

Do the 49ers even have a pass rush? It's like the D-line just walks into the O-line and waits for the play to be over

WOW, Smith & Mario blew that play up!

And yea, hope Foster is alright, I didn't really see that play good to tell

They were saying he was holding his hamstring, I just hope it isn't a lingering injury.

And this offense is good to go.

Damb that sucks about his hamstring.

The offense is killing it. I barely remember the 49ers even being on the field lol
