I'm out to pick up a new set of irons this winter and I'm thinking Callaways or TM. Maybe even something like Adams or Mizuno's as well.

Was checking out the Golf Digest Hot List ( http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/ratings/irons/2008/hotlistirons_gi ) andgetting ideas with the game improvement irons.

I know quite a few of you on here are avid golfers (kobetwo) and know your stuff so lets see what your set up is/did you get anything new over theholidays/changes you plan to make to your bag before the weather gets nice, ect.

Also any other good golf forums with advice/reviews/deals etc

Only 4 more months until I might be able to get a round in! hehe

I would recommend game improvement irons if your index is 5 or above. I've heard great things about Callaway and Taylor Made...

My Bag:

Driver: Titleist 983K 10.5* w/ Graphite Design YS-6 Stiff
3 Wood: Taylor Made V-Steel 15* w/ TM M.A.S. 2 Stiff
Utility: Taylor Made Rescue Mid 19* w/ Royal Precision Rifle Stiff
Irons: Titleist DCI 762 3-PW w/ True Temper Dynamic Gold S-300
Wedges: Cleveland 588 Chrome 53*, 60*
Cleveland 588 RTG 56*
Putter: Scotty Cameron by Titleist Studio Style Newport 2 35"
Ball: Titleist Pro-V1
Bag: Titleist X66 Navy/Silver/Red

I'm really happy with my bag at the moment so I don't think I'll be making any changes for a while...

I still have yet to find any clubs to replace the feel I have for these Ping Eye2's (2-PW) they so old school but I hit them real consistently.

Im still using my old Big Bertha 10.5 XL shaft as my 3 wood
and the shicago classic 8.5 is the driver. Imma switch to a VL shaft once my Brother gets back in town.

Ive got an unused (except the 7 iron) set of Titleist forged back Irons. Brand spankin new.
smh.gif
but I refuse to try them out. I just dont have the time like Iused to. anytime Im playin with friends we on rabbits and squirrels so I ccant afford to break in new clubs .

One problem that I think I'm going to have in picking out my irons is the type of shaft that I need for my swing. I recently tweaked it a little bit toallow for a consistent draw and I know that I swing pretty hard/fast. I realize that most serious golfers switch out the shafts and put in something thatsuits their swing.

I have no idea what my handicap is, but I can give you an idea of how I play. I've been playing since I was about 8 and I try to play once a week in thespring/summer. My low score is an 82 which I shot last summer. I think that if I really put in some work on my game and actually get a set of irons that areright for me, I can drop my scores and consistently break 80.

Any advice on how to pick a shaft that is right for me? Or should I just go and get my swing analyzed and see what they have to say?

My Brother is a Pro and has played on the Hooters tour, Nike Tour, Space coast and Canadian TOur. I just get what he gives me mostly. My old 3 wood wass aregular shaft and I tend to move the ball right to left alot with that (not purposely most times too)

any of yall played Golf oin High Scool? If so, what #were you ? I was #2 on da squuad
no lie, I was embarressed to even be in the team photo
laugh.gif
but when my JR yr hit I was like !$#% it, Imm play cuz by then everyone knew I could play

Gunna, how did you play in H.S.?

Our golf season was the same as football season and I know I would have never been able to play.

Driver: Taylor Made 360 Ti 10.5 Bubble Ultralite R-80

golf was spring, I used to miss any baseball games on Wednesdays and miss spring football workouts on Mondays. My strength coach thought I was BSin when I toldhim Im missing workouts cuz Im playing on the golf team.

I'm afraid i won't be able to play much golf this year, after my 2 month return to the game this past summer (after a 5 year hiatus)... I got reallygood (and really bad) in my return to the game, never really got certain parts of my game back and NEVER figured out what i was doing off the teeconsistently.. but i shot respectable scores and had a ton of great shots (still can't believe how close i was to my first eagle) and just had a blast outthere playing the game like i used to in high school and middle school. I could feel that if i just had more time to put into it, and maybe a littleprofessional help tweaking a few parts of my game (mostly the mental part i'm afraid
laugh.gif
) that i could get my handi into single digits by the end of thissummer.

BUT - i no longer have a golfing buddy as he moved to north carolina, and everyone else that plays is just not serious enough to go very often. I justcan't justify spending money on a membership again if i'm going to have to go play by myself (it's a 35 minute drive, btw) all the time.

It's very sad - but what can i do really? I'll still try to keep up with what's going on in the equipment part of the game, reading you guys'posts and what not.. i'm sure i'll hit the range a bunch of times this season and maybe even sneak onto a course or two before it's all said anddone.. But it's too hard for me to do that, b/c you just can't play all that well playing that little amount of time each year... so it's morefrustrating than anything.

Anyways - i'll be around in the golf threads just to say hi... think of me while you're out having fun

but you were glad you played weren't you? let that be a lesson to some of you dudes still in high school. play any and every sport you can.

but back to golf. i've been needing new clubs for a while, but the last two summers i haven't gotten out more than once a week so i haven'tthought that was enough play to justify spending a lot of money on new sticks. i'll be getting a new set this season though, i'm gonna be playing in aleague.

here's my drive:

waaaaaaaaaay too much backswing, i know.

iron shot:

that's why i need new clubs/longer shafts, see how far i'm leaning over the ball.

i think my games good enough to where i can start playing blades, anyone currently use them?

I remember that a couple of players in the post this past summer did, but I know for me that my iron play is not nearly where it needs to be interms of shot making to switch to blades. But as you say, a little professional help on the swing could probably do wonders, but I'm not holding out forthat anytime soon. Maybe after I get through law school

Driver: Taylor Made R7 425cc stiff shaft (nh)
3Wood: Taylor Made stiff shaft (nh)
3-PW: Taylor Made LT irons
SW: Callaway gun metal 56 degree
LW: Callaway gun metal 64 degree
Putter: Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Design 1
bag: High School Ping

I used to play a lot... really competitively, but now i go for fun.
on a local golf course par 72 i usually shoot 83-90 with no practicing.
Just try and go out once a week but with this weather its hard.
looking forward to spring though!

I was just about to make a post like this. For Christmas my brother and mom surprised me with a new set.

Sasquatch Sumo2 driver
Sasqautch 3 wood
Nike Sligshot Irons
Nike Black OZ Putter
Plus they got me the Sasqautch bag and two boxes of Nike One Platinum Balls.

Lol I know Nike Hypebeast right? But it really was one of the best presents I've ever received. Now I Just need to pick up a 5 wood and I'm good.

I just play casually once or twice a month nothing too serious. But there's nothing better then being on the course on a beautiful, sunny day having a goodtime with your buddies.

I demo'ed a bunch of sticks today and I had a hard time transitioning to the Adams Hybrids. I really liked the TM R7's. I have borrowed those acouple times from friends and I liked them. Right now I'm looking at the R7's, Callaway X-20's, and the Adams A3 (i think thats the name of them). I'll go back in a couple days after I think about what was working best for me. Anybody else play the R7's?

Gunna, if you don't mind saying, around how much money does your bro make on those tours? do they have sponsors, pay for travel...stuff like that?

laugh.gif
at you hitting the Big Bertha off the deck.

anytime Im playin with friends we on rabbits and squirrels so I ccant afford to break in new clubs .
rabbits and squirrels??? pardon the ignorance, but i'm lost.
nerd.gif

it's also about time i get a 9 degree driver, maybe even 8.5.

and Answer IV DMX, i got a boy who plays R7's and he loves them. but the clubs are actually better than he is.

Its nice that this thread pops up ever so often, its been about 2 weeks since the last time i hit the course, so hopefully this thread gives me the desire togo back out.

Anyways:
Driver: Cobra X- Speed 9 Degrees. Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board 73 Stiff.
3 Wood: Taylormade r7 15 degrees. Stock Re*Ax shaft Stiff.
Hybrid: Taylormade Rescue Dual. 19 Degrees. Stock TM Shaft
Irons: Mizuno MP-60 (4-PW) I just got project x rifles installed.
Wedges: Titleist Spinmilled 56/60 degrees.
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2. I'm thinking about getting this oxidized soon.

My Bag:

Driver - Cleveland Launcher 400 w/ Aidala Stiff Flex Graphite Shaft (so light that's why I like it)
3-Wood - Titleist 975F w/ Steel Rifle Stiff Shaft (old but I like it too much to toss it)
Irons (2, 4-PW) - Taylor Made R7 Tour w/ Steel Rifle Stiff Shafts
Wedges (52, 56, 60) - Cleveland CG 10 2 dots w/ Standard Stiff Shafts
Putter - Scotty Cameron Newport 2 (with extra lead tape for some added weight)

Can't wait until the snow melts in upstate NY. Until then i'll be

My irons are almost like blades but have a small cavity back, so I would defiitely try them if you haven't

My brother makes $$$$$$. He also teaches a $ maker too(He sent his prize pupil to Richmond on full ride) . He doesnt play as much as he used to and he lost his toyota spionsorship
He's done severalt Golf Digest commercials, If u ve watched golf over the last 10 yrs U have seen his swing as it lead the commercial.

MY boy Jeremy was on Golf Channels Big Break. (if annyone watches that)

HE runs a inner city golf program funded by the Tampa Bay Sports authority and Titleist. His best Friend is Craig runs a major portion of Titleist golf in theSouthEast.

here's some work from Buccaneers website:
.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shelton Quarles loves the game of golf so much he just had to share it with others.

Of course, that's in keeping with the Quarles' nature, as he has long been one of the most altruistic players on the team.

On Wednesday, March 15 Quarles' IMPACT Foundation kicked off an eight-week-long golf clinic titled "Tee It Up" at Rogers Park Golf Course in Tampa. Tee It Up is designed to introduce at-risk and economically disadvantaged elementary school children to golf with the hope that it will become a lifelong interest for some of them.

Through Tee It Up, PGA professional Kennie **** will help approximately 10 children from nearby Foster Elementary Academy become acquainted with one of the oldest games in history. While the clinic will teach the kids the mechanics of a golf swing, the hope is that valuable life lessons will be learned as well.

An avid golfer himself, Quarles views golf as an opportunity to pass along to children who otherwise might not be exposed to the game some important values that could help them throughout life. In addition to the basics of golf instruction, the program will include lessons in sportsmanship, etiquette, motivation, discipline and other positive golf principles.

I purposely blanked out the last name

for obvious reasons.

as for the betting.

"Rabbit"

Definition: This golf side bet gets its name from the term used to describe a pacesetter. Someone who runs out ahead of the field in a mile run, for example, is called the rabbit. They are out ahead of the pack, setting the pace.
In Rabbit, the object is to achieve the low score on a hole, and to have that honor after the 9th and 18th holes.

Here's how Rabbit works: When the round begins, the first player to to singly have the low score on a hole captures the Rabbit (in other words, if two players tie for low score, no one captures the Rabbit - the honor must be won singly).

If on a following hole someone other than the holder of the Rabbit is the low scorer, the Rabbit is set free. And then the Rabbit can be won back by the next player to singly achieve a low score on a hole. So before another player can tame the Rabbit, the Rabbit must first be set free.

As a side bet, this one pays the player who holes the Rabbit on the 9th hole and on the 18th hole. They can and often will be different players; sometimes no one will win either instance because the Rabbit will be free.

If you want to make sure that Rabbit pays out, then eliminate the step of setting the Rabbit free. When a different player achieves a low score, the Rabbit changes hands at that point.

We also play Nassaus and with Presses the $$$ go sky high

OK, sooo Im letting out entirely too much personal info over the net

I recently just got some Taylor irons...haven't even tried em out yet, but they're steel shaft.
I got a Taylor driver and that's pretty much it...I'm not really an avid golfer but I try to get out there every so often.

Just some generic Pro Select Package crap. (its my first year) Will upgrade when I get some money/better.

Bought 2 wedges though.
Paradise SW
Wilson Staff GW

Should probably invest in better Irons though, I really prefer hitting irons, gotta work on my long iron game tho.

Cant wait for warmer weather.

that's good stuff with your brother. i love watching big break, but i don't remember that dude. i like that Rabbit game. what's up withthose other games? i'm always looking for different ways to win money. we usually play this game, can't remember the name, maybe you will after iexplain it.

everyone plays their own ball. two teams of two. lowest single player score on each hole gets a point, 2 points if the low score was a birdie, 3 for aneagle. 2 points if the low score was a bogey, 3 points for double-bogey or higher. no points if there's a tie for low score. lowest team score on eachhole gets a point, 2 points if the team total was 2 shots better, 3 points if the team score was 3 shots better, etc. no team points awarded in a tie. youcan add bonus team points for best score after 9 and 18. make each point worth $1, $10, $20, whatever.

at the end of the round for example:

team a:

me: 5 individual points
gunna: 4 individual points

our team: 6 team points

team b:

craftsy: 3 individual points
answer: 5 indivdual points

their team: 5 team points

$20 a point...

craftsy owes me $40 for individual points and $20 for team points. he owes gunna $20 for hole points and $20 for team points.

answer only owes me $20 for team points since we tied for hole points. he owes gunna nothing (gunna owes $20 for hole points, yet answer owes $20 for teampoints.)

in the end, i won $80, gunna won $40, craftys lost $100 and answer lost $20.

i know that maybe hard to get as it was kinda difficult to explain for some reason.

There are so many betting games out there for golf. No wonder MJ has been known to lose six figures on the course.

I'm thinking about trying to go the ebay route for irons. Anybody ever done it?
