If you have an iphone, the mad decent app has like 6/7 drops and you can run it through your mixer.

Is that Pioneer controller motorized? I had a friend that had one a couple years back and it gave him a lot of problems, I'm sure they've updated it since though so I dunno if they've addressed the issues yet or not.

To the guy that asked about the S2, if you know Traktor you'll pick it up in a matter of minutes. Not hard to use at all.

Yeah I've been reading around, it has one or two minor issues, but it seems like software will sort them out. Other then that, I've read and watched various very good reviews. I mainly want to mix (Deep House), but I can see the pads coming in handy later on, and I'm looking to buy just one controller for the next few years. So the NS6 looks good, but I think there's more room for growth in the DDJ-SX.

Hopefully by around April/May I'll have one.

Have you had any issues with yours? I've seen 1 guys pad's stop working. A few complaining about the pitch on the left being to close to the jog wheel. And apparently the controller over all feels a bit cramped. But somewhere saying it's fine if you have smaller hands. I don' have the biggest hands, so hopefully it should be fine for me. I'm looking to go and test one out at a store soon...

Outside of the sampler, not too bad.

I still haven't figured out how to use that

mine has been pretty worry Free knock on wood. I just came back from doing a club and it performed to my expectations. I would agree with the pitch fader being to close to the jog wheel but I've gotten used to it, coming from a big platter on a 1200 to a controller takes some adjustment, but I'm very happy.... Even the mic issue some report hasn't been a problem for me

Yo that mix is killer

. I have a DJ set at a ski resort next weekend and I'm definitely mixing in that Eddie Money - Take me home tonight

Sorry to bump but I've been just practicing with virtual dj and just my macbook for about a year now. I'm looking into buying some equipment because I think I've plateaued. I was curious what would be some good beginning equipment for me and should I switch to a different program or stick with virtual dj? I don't want to do this as a full job or anything. Mainly just do it for fun and at parties at my college and the surrounding colleges. I'd love for some advice and I really don't want to break the bank, I know it's asking a lot but I'm trying to get everything for

im glad someone brought this thread back, lets try to keep it relevant.

the traktor s2 is a good set up, you can find some on craigslist for not bad. ive played on traktor for fun and its a good program to use. virtual dj is fun to play around, but if u really wanna take it a step ahead and dj in public u need to upgrade. pioneer has so controllers too that arent bad, and i think DDJ-ERGO is not a bad option. i think u can run serato and traktor off of it.

this is the last open format mix i put out. enjoy!

Get a Hercules piece. It works with virtual DJ. Its stainless steal and pretty cheap. Once you want to invest more. Come back lol

Get what I got. A Denon MC3000.

Perfect for bedroom DJ's and beginner DJ's alike. The Mixtrak Pro's/DDJ-Wego's/MC-2000's are your super basic controllers. They'll get the job done, but with the MC-3000 you have more freedom. It has its own sound card so you can plug directly into loudspeakers and you're good to go.

Works amazing with Traktor. Trust me, you'll have a lot more fun with the 3000 than the other basic controllers.

Goes for about $300 or lower (ebay) and will definitely last you forever. Solid steel construction and its heavy.

MacBook picture posted to relate size.

The biggest problem with controllers is that if it stops working the entire rig is ruined until its sent in and repaired. I currently have a serato setup with technics and all that... would love to get a controller that I can rely on to not mess up/glitch during a set. Cant eem have that lol

For someone like me who just wants to casually dj parties and for fun, how likely is it that my controller will fail?

Wow, honestly didn't expect this much help! Thank you guys so much! :pimp: I'm looking into those all right now and trying to decide which is best for me. In regards of program, it seems most of you are suggesting Traktor, is there any other programs I should look into/compare?

You contradict yourself. You said if the controller stops working then the entire rig is ruined. Well what would happen if your Technics stop working? Same thing. You can't use Serato standalone. What you have to worry about isn't the controller, it's your computer. But if you're just going to be a bedroom DJ, you don't have to worry about having a top notch pc or mac.

The MC3000 is the perfect beginner controller. Built like a tank, excellent soundcard, dedicated filter knob, and although it doesn't have true inputs, it does have an aux input for like an ipod in case your computer goes to ****.

Another option is the upcoming Behringer Studio 4A. I know it's Behringer but their new modular line has gotten pretty good initial reviews from those who have been to Namm and Musikmesse. It has long pitch faders and 6 inch platters and comes with Deckadance that looks good from what i've seen. That one will be $200 and comes with a 3 year warranty.

I still recommend the MC3000

Seriously? My Macbook pro hasn't failed me yet *knocks on wood*. Also, if one technic stopped working I would still have my mixer and the other technic, if both technics fail, I could plug anything into the mixer to act as a deck, "Tonetable app" for instance. Same couldn't be done with a controller I'd really be stuck. I have a good friend with a NS7, and Id honestly actually prefer a controller as it is a lot easier to lug AND less expensive than my current setup (needles etc.) but when his system messed up he was out for a week or two when it was sent in for repair. For in home and casual stuff it would certainly be great, just not sure if I could risk it on a live set. Any of you using controllers for live sets at clubs/larger parties etc.?

ive done many parties on instant doubles or even internal mode on serato, cuz of leaving needles at the club/home, bad turntables, cdj issues, etc. thats why its KEY to have your cue points down. and know all your short cuts.

people always say "with .... you can do so much more", but, how much more are you really doing??? ive been on serato for 6-7 yrs and thought about jumping on traktor a few times, because of the quantized sample decks and other features. but no one really uses ALL the other features, i use the sample decks for drops and fx, built in fx are ok. but ive come to realize that having the right edits and being prepared comes a lot more handy than all than fancy stuff.

ive been djing for over 10yrs so i guess im an oldschool dude who prefers 2 technics and a mixer over any controller (or cdjs), i am in the market for a akai-MPD to use as a midi controller or a third tool.i always utilize cue points and been doing some tone play (even though its getting kinda over done), ive been wanting to incorparate live drumming on the pad and extra goodies. dunno if yall are familiar with my dude four color zack This version of the embed code is no longer supported. ^I'm glad someone knows what instant doubles are or internal mode. I was like.... yea if one turntable messes up I can certainly still crank out a live set. Since you seem to have the same set up as me, do you know of any controllers that you'd say are pretty sturdy. I have been thinking of maybe using an itch controller as a mixer and connect my turntables to that as extra decks (That way I can easily size down or up as needed). Any thoughts, or would you just use a sixty-one or sixty two? Currently using a SL2

A lot of controllers have standalone capability, so you dont NEED a computer to use them. The DDJ-SX/NS6/VCI380/VCi400/N4 just off the top of my head dont need a computer, and can be used with external inputs as well. I think it's more fair to compare a mixer to a controller, because if your mixer fails like you said a controller can, then you're in the same boat. Technics aren't digital and can't be mapped to any software.

Controllers have advanced a lot and will eventually replace other DJing devices. Other than Hip-Hop DJs, CDJ's are the industry standard, and a lot of people are using them with Traktor in HID mode like controllers. Eventually, controllers will not only be designed for software but be able to work off of USB sticks, or use an AdHoc network to stream the music from an external device like a ipad/ipod similar to how the Pioneer DDJ-Aero does. Controllers are the future of DJing. Even something like the NS7II is comparable to TTs.

theres still some real djs who post on here. dont be fooled by all the controller talk (no offense)

proto-j posted on this thrad, hes a cool dude, linked up a few times while hes been in miami, alex butler too (johnny blaze something), gusto post on the wdywt, dj award from LA and bunch more that i cant remember.

i know ppl that have done that with traktor, use the S2 as a main mixer, and still use turntables. not too familiar with all that. theres that one pioneer controller thats like $1000 that i heard is good, the one i posted isnt bad, and theres one thats like 800 thats descent too, i seen ppl use that one with serato. i do a few mobile gigs here and there (store events, launches, fashion shows) and sometimes i feel no need to bring everything that I do, and thought about the controller, i ended up just getting a all in one casket and a legit dolly, it makes eveyrhting 100000 times easier, only pain is loading it in my car, i use to have individual cases for everything and suuuucked. u have a SL2 with a mixer right now? i would say stick to that, i dont know if you can connect turntables to an itch controller.

Are you insinuating that real DJs use TTs?
