NEW YORK, Jan. 1, 2008 - Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom has been suspended one game without pay and assessed a Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two for flagrantly fouling Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics by throwing himself into Allen and knocking him to the floor, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred with 2:56 remaining in the fourth period of the Lakers 110- 91 loss to the Celtics at Staples Center on Dec. 30. Odom will serve his suspension on Jan. 4 when the Lakers host the Philadelphia 76ers.

Like I said in the Lakers Season thread:
This is light, in my opinion. He made no play on the ball, Ray Allen was innocent in every sense of the word, and Odom just checked his shoulder into Allen's waist.

I guess if Raja got 2 games for horse-collaring Kobe, then a game for this is comparable.

But Raja should have gotten more games; at least 5. And Odom should be getting more; at least 3. Maybe 2, since he really as no history of this kind of thing.
But then presequel said that Raja got 1 games, so that makes things even more ridiculous. Raja'shorse-collar on Kobe = Lamar's form-tackle on Allen? Hardly. Raja was far more aggressive, and that wasn't his first time pulling some punk move onsomeone.

So I guess they couldn't give Lamar more because they couldn't look at previous incidents by other players and see Lamar's as worst than any of theprevious 1-game suspensions.

I am glad he got suspended. What a fool. You want to be an all star but you tackle people. Just plain stupid. I wish we would have traded him for matirx.
 
I think Odom should have received anywhere from 5-7 games.

It was a bonehead play, and he attacked Allen without making a play on the ball.

Call it stupid, or call it dirty, but it was unnecessary.

anyway, 1 game is good enough punishment. Maybe 2, but i think 1 is enough to teach odom a lesson...

Ray Allen = Jesus Shuttlesworth. He Got Game??
 
Celtics (and Ray Allen) got exactly what they deserved. The C's were up by almost 20 points at that time, with the Big 3 still on the court trying toembarrass Lakers at their home court.

Lamar Odom is THAT dude.

Lamar had momentum on his movement. While he perhaps looked like he was trying to obstruct Ray at the very least, he didn't look like he was out to takehis head off or anything close to it. Once again, the NBA shows its Pillsbury Doughboy side. Can't have a physical game anymore. Players like Bill Laimbeerwouldn't be able to play in this day and age.

I give you that, but lamar is the same thing. What fool shaves stars in his head and tackles somebody?
 
we don't know what fully happened on the court to make him do that.
but i actually have no problem with what odom did to allen.
the celtics did seem to try to embarrass the lakers by leaving the big 3 on the court in a blowout.
and it seems after the foul odom was jawing at allen over something.
so if odom did it to protect a teammate, himself, or the pride of his team, im all for it.

lol @ protecting a teammate, like ray allen would hurt someone on the court.

but i don't really think you could ever justify hurting someone purposely in a game...just my opinion of course.

^ basically saying ray allen is a cocky, pompous, arrogant son of a, but comes off as a nice guy and fools people into believing that hes a good guy.
