Masha vs. Vika... who y'all got moving to the final to face Serena?
Predicted Vika in straight sets over Masha earlier in this thread. I'll admit, completely surprised Sharapova took the first set. Didn't get to watch because of work. Second and third sets were pretty great tennis. Maria's service games were solid, but she had to labor often in the third set to hold. Reminded me kind of Del Po's stellar serving first set against Nole yet barely holding and often being broken.

How many games you guys giving Errani? Forget about breaking Serena, I hope the Italian just keeps it competitive.

Wow, what a battle... a great match... 'cept for that dancing...

I hope Vika will at least make it competitive against Serena.

I'm guessin... 6-1 6-1?

Everything playing nicely into Serena's hands.

Dude, Vinci should be able to play with Errani right now the way Serena is rollin'. Serve is straight filth.

Not expecting Vika to necessarily beat Serena in the Women's Final, but three sets would be a nice Saturday night treat.

Predictions for the Men's Semis?

My early prediction and gut feeling is Nole over Ferrer in four sets. Berdych over Andy in five, not that I want that to happen in any way, shape, or form. Berdych's serve is rock solid at the moment. See a lot of powerful ground strokes for winners.

Serena Williams is ridiculous. She's takes about ten steps towards the net when the purported 2nd grader attempts her 2nd serve. This is the semis of the US Open.

Glad my girl Vika is in the final :smokin. I hope she doesn't get steamrolled. Serena is like the terminator. She just destroys everyone.

Tornado warning in NYC!? Are you kidding me!?

EDIT ~ Women's final is postponed to tomorrow due to weather.

Crazy court conditions... wind blowin' ish everywhere.

Anyway, crazy Murray/Berdych match too. Murray a bit lucky to have been able to finish it in 4.

EDIT ~ 5-2... play suspended.  Evacuating the stadium. Wow.

The men's final will definitely be on Monday.

Wind was a major factor today in the Murray/Berdych match. Berdych's girl is gorgeous, must say once again. Good to see Kim vocally and emphatically supporting Andy out there. Gritty performance for Murray. This is truly his chance to secure a major with Lendl. No Rafa or Fed. Almost had Nole at the 2012 Australian.

Berdych had the chance to upset Muzz. Don't know if it was wind or nerves, but the second and third matches cost him. Uncharacteristic. Stopped serving well and not as confident on his powerful ground strokes. This coming from the man who said he lives in an era where players like him, Ferrer, Tsonga, etc. must concede defeat about possibly never winning a major tournament.

Extra day off benefits Vika in the Women's Final, although she still might lose in straight sets. Just hoping for three and inspired effort from Vika. She's going to have to dig deep to a whole new level based on the way Serena is serving out. Forget about breaking, holding serve will be difficult enough as witnessed with Ana and Errani most recently.

The extra day off probably helps Ferrer a bit too after the long five-setter with Tipsy, but maybe not given his hot start in the first set prior to suspended play. Nole's usually starts fast in recent matches. Even workouts at the gym immediately prior to the match for an extra pump, I suppose. Didn't get to watch the 5-2 start for David, was Ferrer just returning everything like a beast? I don't imagine his serve would do much damage against Nole.

The wind was ridiculous. Made the conditions so tricky.  In the 1st set Berdych handled it relatively well.  He was able to play through it while Murray was still trying to feel his way around it.  But for some reason, in the 2nd and 3rd, Berd lost it all as Andy started to slice like mad.  He kept floating the ball back, while eventually Berd would hit it out or he'd hit a short-enough ball where Andy would slap it for a winner.  It was quite smart as he just let Berd implode... he had like 50+ unforced errors or something.  Andy was very lucky in the 4th set as it could have easily gone to a 5th set.  Andy was up 3-0 and should have finished him off, but he remained complacent, which allowed Berd to gain some confidence.  He'll have to work on finishing off his oppos in the future.

I think had it remained windy (but not in dangerous conditions) and they decided to play the women's final, it would have benefited Vika.  Serena's playing so well that the tricky-windy conditions could have thrown her off a bit.  It certainly adds a new element to the match and IMO would help Vika.

The organizers did a terrible job for the 2nd semi though.  They knew the storm was coming but insisted on having it follow the Murray match on Ashe.  It was just stupid.  They knew the Nole/Fer match would never be completed before the storm arrived.  They should have had them play on Armstrong instead.  They could have finished both semis on 2 different courts and would have had a better chance at having a Sunday final.  Instead, Murray will get an extra day, while there are no guarantees that they can continue on Sunday. The important thing here is to get the matches completed.

The break will actually help Nole, IMO.  Fer was on a roll and playing really well, while Nole looked really out of it.  This break will reset everything in: stopping Fer's momentum and will allow Nole to re-focus.  Fer was playing like a beast... hitting lots of winners and getting to a lot of balls, while Nole was making poor decisions and making a lot of mistakes.

Anyway...

And how cool was this?  All Scots.

For those who don't know, the guy on the right is Sir Alex Ferguson... manager of Manchester United.

Alex and Sean crashed Andy's presser... LOL

I completely agree with the suggestion that the organizers could have and should have moved the Nole/Ferrer semi to another court simultaneously with Murray/Berdych on Ashe to beat the rain. I think Gilbert interviewed one of the head organizers and he said they didn't even consider or discuss that possibility. Everyone in NJ/NY knew storm warnings were in effect for Saturday night. Could have finished both men's semis to setup a regular scheduled Sunday Men's Final. That would have avoided another Monday U.S. Open Final that everyone often "complains" about. Obviously the Vika/Serena Final was unavoidable. Don't think tennis fans quite have a problem with the 4:30 PM EST start. But why even start Nole/Ferrer to get all of seven games in? Now I wonder, David gets an extra day rest but he was apparently smoking with the early break. At the same time, Nole gets a day to revisit his game-plan and make necessary adjustments to compensate for a slow and uncharacteristic start. Ferrer must finish off the first set quickly to have a chance. Can't stress that enough. I think we see a different, properly motivated Nole today at 11 AM EST.

Berdych beat himself simple as that. Had a golden opportunity at a Slam Final appearance. Instead, he mentally cost himself in the second and third sets. Went away from what worked so well in the first set. Had Andy frustrated and somewhat on the ropes. Murray's been tested in this year's U.S. Open significantly with numerous close scares. It would be nice to see him finish the run off with a Slam, finally. Would credit Lendl as a coach in their partnership.

Ferrer, arguably the tour's best defender, is being out-defended and out-played by Nole. Amazing stuff.

Just got home from flag football for the end of the second set. Knew Nole's intensity would be at a new high level. Ferrer is getting pushed way too far back on the baseline. Too deep. Can't generate pinpoint accuracy or any power (already limited for David's stature). Ferrer is going to have to dig even deeper than he did in the Tipsarevic five-setter. Otherwise Nole in four like I initially predicted.

Too much Spanish heart and pride. Won't give in. Excellent third set thus far. SP: Don't know if you're an American football fan, but I'll have two TVs running the 1 PM EST American football openers and U.S. Open. Laptop running for Fantasy Football and NT.

Most would painfully agree Ferrer's defense on this surface is even better than Rafa's? Anywhere else defensively, advantage Nadal. That's me being an honest Rafa Nadal fan.
