Houston Texans Pre-Season 2014 - NT Bowl 2.5...Battle For Roster Spots

Exactly. The game felt like a waste. Andre's over 100 yards, Foster & Tate running good, the defense playing well and making very few mistakes. Texans had everything at their disposal to win, and Schaub literally threw it away. He deserves every bit of slander the radio and blogs throw his way.

As a cowboy fan living in houston I think I am overly qualified to speak on what to do with a QB who can't get it done in crunch time...BENCH HIM....BENCH HIM RIGHT NOW! You ain't winning a Super Bowl with him, sit him down. Strart Keemun or Yates and see if you have the next Kaepernik, a guy who can complement an already talent laden team enough to put them over the top. Otherwise you'll wind up like my cowboys...with an overpaid fantasy QB who'll never take you to a championship

yep. you basically know what you're getting with schaub and it's clearly not good enough. his best is behind him.

Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing suffered a concussion during his team’s heartbreaking 23-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The injury was sustained during the third quarter, after which Cushing left the game and did not return. Cushing was in the midst of a good performance — he’d recorded nine tackles and forced a fumble up until the point he was concussed — and, after he was removed, the Houston defense allowed its only touchdown of the contest.

Cushing was not allowed to speak with the media after the game, but Antonio Smith, the Houston defensive end, said that Cushing was doing well.

Cushing will enter the NFL’s concussion protocol. His status for next Sunday’s game at San Francisco will be determined.

Antonio 2 weeks ago after Andre got his concussion said he was fine and he played the next week. Now he says Cush is fine so we can expect him to play next week. (Hopefully)

I didn't even see the original play when this happened. Saw a replay early this morning and Watt washed Wilson something serious on the sidelines. Watt bloodied and Cushing, Mercilus, Brooks Reed, and Smith all flying around making plays...all wasted thanks to Schaub. :smh:

Minor injuries stack up for Texans; Brooks has toe injury

Texans right guard Brandon Brooks is dealing with a toe injury that has caused some concern, coach Gary Kubiak said Monday.

Left tackle Duane Brown has missed two consecutive games and is day-to-day, while left guard Wade Smith exited an overtime home loss Sunday to Seattle.

“We’ve got some bumps and bruises. I think we’ve probably got a little concern right now — Brandon Brooks has a toe, coming out of the game, I’m a little concerned about,” Kubiak said. “Bryan Braman is a little beat up. Antonio (Smith) and J.J. (Watt) are a little beat up on the injury report this morning, but I don’t think it’s anything that’s going to keep anybody from playing right now. Those are some of the names that were on it.”

As for Smith leaving the Seahawks game and being replaced by Ben Jones, Kubiak said it was a precautionary issue.

“Wade’s coming off his knee (surgery) and he was playing a ton of snaps. He played every snap going into this week and, looking at the long haul, we thought we needed to take a few snaps off of him. So we played Ben a couple of series I think in the game. He took about 15-20 snaps off of Wade,” Kubiak said. “Wade responded; he played very good in the game. He gives us everything he has. But we were a little concerned of the wear and tear with what was going on with the knee coming back so quick, so that’s what we did.”

Texans’ Foster calls players only meeting

Running back Arian Foster called a players-only meeting Monday, the day after the 23-20 overtime loss to Seattle. Defensive end Antonio Smith was one of the players who talked the most. He talked to his teammates in the dressing room after Sunday’s game, too.

“Antonio is a strong, strong presence,” coach Gary Kubiak said. “When he speaks, guys listen. He cares so much.

“It was hard to walk in there after a game like that, whether you’re a coach or a player and understand that whenever you’ve given everything you possibly have and you don’t get it done, it’s a very tough pill to swallow.

“It’s easy to not say anything. I think the important thing is that you do talk about it, and you let everybody know you’re committed to what’s going on. And that’s what he did, and he continued to do it in meetings. It hurts, but we’re a strong group. We’ll rally.”

Cushing starts concussion protocol

Inside linebacker Brian Cushing is going through the concussion protocol but looks good to start at San Francisco.

Offensive tackle Duane Brown, who’s missed the last two games with a sore toe, will be day-to-day again.

“(Cushing’s) feeling much better,” coach Gary Kubiak said. “He was a part of the meetings. He was a part of everything that we were doing.

“Duane is upbeat, feeling very good. I think Duane is still a day-to-day process. We’ll know more (Wednesday).”

Kubiak also said he’s concerned about a toe injury suffered by right guard Brandon Brooks.

Kubiak speaks on Schaub’s audible abilities

There’s a misconception that Matt Schaub can’t change plays at the line of scrimmage.

In the loss to Seattle, Schaub checked out of “a lot of situations,” according to coach Gary Kubiak.

The Texans don’t use conventional audibles where the quarterback can change the play and call what he wants based on the defense.

Schaub has a lot of freedom at the line of scrimmage. When the Texans are in their hurry-up offense, Schaub calls everything at the line of scrimmage. Otherwise, the Texans use predetermined options that are set by the coaches.

Schaub may call two plays in the huddle based on what the coverage might be. He can check out of one and go with the other at the line of scrimmage.

Kubiak created confusion on Monday when he was asked if Schaub could have checked out of the bootleg call that resulted in him forcing a pass to tight end Owen Daniels that was returned for a touchdown that tied the score 20-20.

Schaub should have thrown the ball away with blitzing strong safety Kam Chancellor in his face. Asked if Schaub could have called an audible, Kubiak said, “No, once we called it, started the motion, it was game on.”

Kubiak disagrees with penalty on Jackson

Coach Gary Kubiak seldom disagrees publicly with an official’s decision, but he didn’t like the personal foul on cornerback Kareem Jackson that gave Seattle a first down at the Texans’ 36 in overtime.

“I’ve seen it many of times (and), I don’t agree with it,” Kubiak said. “I understand the rule about picking somebody up and putting them on their head. I didn’t see the play that way.

“As a player, you’ve got to try and keep yourself totally out of that situation, but you’ve got to tackle a guy, too. You’ve got to get him down.”

J.J. Watt cut may lead NFL to adopt a blood rule
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 2, 2013, 2:30 PM EDT

The NFL does not have a rule requiring players to leave the game when they’re bleeding. That may change soon.

Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt continued playing as blood gushed out of the bridge of his nose on Sunday, and former NFL head of officiating Mike Pereira said he believes the sight of Watt bleeding on the field will make the NFL’s Competition Committee queasy.

“The NFL does not have a blood rule,” Pereira said. “Hockey has it, college football has it, the NBA has it: If you have blood on your person you’re asked to leave the game and it has to be stopped and your uniform cleaned up. Should the NFL have a blood rule? I think they should. In this day and age of infectious diseases it makes sense, and that’s exactly why all the other sports have gone in that direction. . . . I’d bet you that they address it in the offseason, especially after seeing J.J. Watt.”

Given the league’s emphasis on player safety, it’s surprising that such a rule doesn’t already exist. It’s also surprising that the NFL apparently doesn’t require medical professionals to wear latex gloves when treating players who are bleeding, but the trainers on the Texans’ sideline were not wearing gloves as they treated Watt’s cut.

As the NFL tries to change its image, the sight of players with blood streaming down their faces will likely become a thing of the past.

Texans’ Cushing, Brown will play vs. 49ers; Brooks out

Two of the Texans’ premier players are expected to take the field Sunday night in San Francisco.

Linebacker Brian Cushing is set to return after suffering a concussion last Sunday during an overtime home loss to Seattle, while left tackle Duane Brown is set to return after missing back-t0-back games due to turf toe.

Right guard Brandon Brooks (toe) and reserve linebacker Tim Dobbins are out.

Cushing and Brown were joined on the practice field Friday by wide receiver Andre Johnson (shin), who’s also set to play against the 49ers.

Also, since Brooks will be out, Jones will be taking his spot (even though he's been rotating with struggling Smith already), plus, Cody White should be active for the first time. This game is gonna take the Texans 1st half output for an entire game, plus catching some breaks here and there. I'd love for the 1st quarter vs Rams game Niners to show up for an entire game. I'd love it.

Today's the day to see if this week-long slander bus got to him, or if he'll rise up. Let's do dis :pimp:

The problem is that everyone knows our offense. Kubiak uses the same 5 plays every game. 3 and out everytime. The league knows if you apply pressure to Schuab, he is thrown off his game. Never been a fan of Matt. He has no real threat as for as back ups.

what people are forgetting is that schaub wasn't always as bad as he is right now. he was effective because he was somewhat able to hit the deep ball via play action. his arm strength just isn't there anymore, and DBs sit on his routes. he's only declining from here on out

That's the thing about backups here though, you never know if there's a threat or not. All we saw from Yates was him going 3-3 or 2-3 in 2011 after Schaub went down, and his [apparent] regression this preseason, though he played his *** off late preseason to even be the 2nd guy. And all we've seen from Keenum is preseason and UH stats. All I know is both are more mobile of have a stronger arm, and the WRs wouldn't have to wait for the ball to get to them. I'm down for either one at this point.

when yates came in, he threw a 3rd down pass to OD over the middle that converted. put the ball right where only OD could get it, and it had zip on it. it's night and day when it comes to arm strength between schaub and yates/keenum

Fire Gary, cut Schaub. Hire Sumlin, draft Manziel. Win Super Bowls, profit.
