(Spoilers) ASOIAF Books Discussion (All Books Read Edition) (Spoilers)

So no one else thinks Syrio is alive? I'm pretty sure he's going to pop up in the last 2 books. Martin never explicitly killed him. Much like the Hound who we all thought was dead but who we now pretty much know was the gravedigger Brienne comes across.

for some reason i have always felt syrio is somehow related to that valar morgoulis dude that gave arya the coin...they might both be faceless men or even the same dude

That's one of the fan theories, that he might be Jaqen. Maybe he took out those couple of guards then changed his face but wouldn't the other guards just kill him instead of putting him in the dungeon? Unless he surrendered and wanted to bide his time until he thought of a plan to escape. We never found out why Jaqen was in the dungeons anyway.

wasn't there a theory that jaqen was in the dungeon as a way to get to someone to kill them.  it's mentioned that the other prisoners he was locked up with were terrified of him.

All these damn theories about people who are still alive. It's like no one actually died

When They showed Bran and Cat in the tree and they sucked the color out of her face making her super pale. Thought it was a good tease for the end of this season.

ooo didn't see that
gotta rewatch that now

just rewatched it... nope... she looked normal.

Watch the transition. They post processed her down to look super pale. She obviously doesn't have her throat cut but it was something they deliberately did in post.

wow... that could have been the lighting
anyways stoneheart wasn't just pale...
so i doubt it wasn't any kind of foreshadowing...

Things I liked about this episode for book readers...

- poor theon. Looks like Ramsay and these mind games and torture are going to go on for like 2,3, maybe 4 seasons. This is going to be brutal
- the varys story... That happened in the book. Did the sorcerer revenge part? I don't remember
- Joffrey is one morbid demented little ****. The streets will rejoice when he chokes next year. Show runners are doing a good job on that
- Did Margery always suggest Loras for Sansa? I thought it was the other brother?

The story was the same, but I'm 99% sure the bit about actually finding and apprehending the sorcerer was added for the show.

Sansa is suggested as a match for Loras' crippled brother in the books. Loras is in the kings guard and therefore ineligible for marriage. But the show hasn't introduced the brother yet and people speculate they simply write him out in order to save time.

Necessary cuts.

Now that you mention... The story almost flows better without the mention of the other brother. Keeps Sansa giddy and then they drop the hammer which looks like is going down next week.

I think in the books Sansa thought they were going to marry her off to Garlan since Loras took up a Kingsguard job. Then they tell her it was going to be their crippled brother who stays in Highgarden.

loras is also not kingsguard until after the marriage

that's when it changed to the cripple brother

^ You sure? I was positive Olenna mentioned that bit of information to Sansa when they were originally discussing the plot to marry her off. I think she made a joke of Sansa's stupidity too

I think the crippled brother is Willas, Garlan is a knight.

I'm sure they'll mention Willas when the Martells finally make their appearance.

well i think when they talked about it in the meeting, (in the book) she stepped up and said loras. and they were like silly rabbit. tricks are for kids.

then offered willas, but i think they're overall scheme was to have Winterfell as well.

Yea, my "you sure" was about when Loras was Kingsguard. I can't remember if he was at the start of the 3rd book or not.

Besides the red viper, I'm most excited to see how the show handles her appearance and voice. I think the character is absolutely terrifying.
