Joey Bada$$ 1999 mixtape

Damn, always thought that there was more behind Steez unfortunate death, and wondered why any details were scarce.

I feel like PE hasn't been the same since dude passed. They had a certain underground feel to them that was very organic, and for whatever reason I don't get that feeling listening to their records anymore. Maybe I'm just waiting on new material, or I'm bored with what I have.

Before "Two Lips" Joey hadn't put out anything I can vibe to in a minute. I only really messed with a few tracks of Summer Knights, with "Sweet Dreams" being my favorite. I just don't get that same earthy, jazzy, underground NYC feeling like I did with 1999 and even PEEP to an extent. Joey even said it in an interview with Rosenburg that he's been searching for that feeling he had when he did "Waves". After listening to 1999 I figured we'd be getting ATCQ 2.0 on some new age stuff but PE's music as a whole has taken a turn since PEEP, and it hasn't been for the better.

I get what your saying here and although I probable like SK more than you did (with Sweet Dreams also being my favorite track) I do love the sound of 1999 and PEEP. That is the sound I do prefer to hear from PE but I do dig that SK isn't the same sound as 1999. I think thats a good thing to an extent and personally I think Joey wanted to prove that he could evolve his sound and rap over more diverse beats. With that being said I think his album will sound a lot more of thta jazzy underground NYC feel that many of us in this thread love to hear.

well, that STEEZ story is sad to read, dude had potential and clearly got the backseat from everyone by the sound of it. :smh:

but I did see Joey last night while he's here on his aussie tour. underachievers were on before joey and they were so dope.

I am feeling that track! Navie D a good job of sampling ATCQ's "We Got The Jazz". Very smooth track.

Secc$ Tape Pt 2 dropping February 14th. Good to see some new music from Pro Era on the way!

^ I'm having a hard time finding a zip file with it or at least I was last night.

Kinda lame how they called it a mixtape while they were releasing the songs all week one by one on twitter. Didn't think that would be considered the tape.

^I agree with both you. I like some of the songs and I really love Sol Luna but outside of 2-3 tracks it doesn't have much replay value.

It's time for Joey to drop B4 DA $$

Joey and the rest of PE have been REAL quiet lately man. Almost too quiet. I'm all for not saturating the market, but 1999 feels like forever and a day ago, Summer Knights was decent, Fly's tape was a flop, and that PE group tape was solid, IMO.

Maybe they have something brewing for the summer, or fall, but damn, anyone else feel the wind has kinda been taken out of their sails? Thought that Beast Coast movement would have been heavier by now... I don't know, maybe it's just me.

^ IMO Joey and Steez were the only ones worth listening to. The rest of them sound like weak versions of those two. Kirk and CJ aite but they got mad unneeded dudes in their crew. Unless Joeys dropping something theres not really anything worth listening to
