Why do dudes feel like they need to talk crap on the court?

I love it when people talk smack to me on the court, it gets me fired up, then every time i bust them or embarrass them i talk heavy smack back
its how it should be...i mean it is basketball...if you cant take some smack talk on the court i cant even imagine you off the court....

larry bird?
MJ?

KG?
i talk all the time, but after the game i shake hands. talkin trash just makes me play harder

i said usually. most people just shut up and play. they need no other advantage than their balling skills.

Drop a couple comments here and there, get em mad, and now they can't play their game. REAL PLAYERS understand that its part of the game and brush it off quick as if it never happened

but if its soemthing liek free throws i might shoot you something liek pipen did to malone in the finals

The people that do talk most of the time suck. They do it to try to get into your head and get you off your game. After draining the three I would've juststraight grilled him and been like "Say something now $@%*$."

exaclty. the fact that he kept talking after he got torched for the final three proves that he is a scrub.

scrubs love to talk because that's all they're good at.

Usually, if someone is doing an inordinant amount of talking, hit him with a couple of points really quickly and stare at him. Don't say a word, juststare. If that doesn't work, hit him with something so nasty that the people on the sideline go "Ooooohhhh" or the gym goes silent. He willeither stop talking or his teammates will yell at him for talking to you.

You didnt have to say anything, but you should have acknowledge him, a wink, a look, anything to ley him know to shut up.

Gary Payton's diagnosis comes as no surprise to many opposing players including Brevin Knight, who lastyear when guarding Payton, was reduced to tears after an on-court verbal onslaught that lasted the entire 48 minutes.

"He is known as a guy that likes to run his mouth, ever since he came into the League and said that John Stockton 'aint got no handles' and thanproceeded to tell the NBA's all time assist and steals leader to 'get some sag in dem shorts' during Payton's rookie year. I guess thisdiagnosis sheds light on the reasons he is so vocal."

NBA executives are currently fending off angry parents across the Nation who claim that Payton's Christmas day banter emotionally scarred their respectivechildren's' fragile egos.

Payton was unavailable for comment

But for real im all down for talkin %!+@ to opponents to lower their confidence and getting in their heads and %!+@ and to add to the swag, which is why GaryPayton is probably my favorite PG of all time, but you shouldnt %#$%$ your teamates thats just some soft$+@* Eddy Curry, "get me the ball, and ill %#$%$to the refs" %!+@. Play the $!%%%*# game, but if youre in a game matching up, hells yes you should talk some %!+@.

And for the dude not saying anything after he it the 3, whatever man. He's probably just not a talker. There is not a lot more swag than just being able tohit a 3 and walk off like nothing happened. If you're good enough to get away with that, you dont need to talk %!+@, a lot of players do that and get awaywith it. See dudes like Ray Allen. You know you got the best of him, he knows it, so whats the need to talk.

^^^^cross-over step back three pointer...use a pick initially to get yourself free, do the cross(that'll allow him to recover to the point that he's infront of you, but still playing do-do defense), and let it go.....splaacka....and the crowd goes wild .....or silent!!

Its a head game cause a lot of times when you talk smack, that person who you are guarding, is going to want to get at you everytime. Thus taking teammates outof the game.Usually two things will happen.1.they will freeze him out. 2.self destruction from within. Meaning his teamates will tell him not to follow himup.Than he gets mad at his teamates, and starts yelling at them. As for the game winning shot,i would pull a Jigsaw. Game over. or better yet Call him SpikeLee. tell him to go sit on the sideline.

Well I did get picked up to run with a guy that was deaf. A player he was guarding was talking %+#@ to him the entire game. Finally, the deaf guy just dunkedon him and in that slurred attempt to speak the words he said, "I couldn't read your lips with my nuts in your mouth. What did you say?"

We had to stop the game we were laughing so hard.

Talking on the court is whatever, I don't even care. But some guys take it to another level.

This one time dude was pissed his team lost, he was walking around screaming and stuff after the game. Some unsuspecting guy comes on the court with his ballto join in the shoot around after the game, and dude kicks his ball all the way across the pavilion, 4 courts away.

Other guy is obviously like$%++ man I didn't do anything, go get my ball. Fight almost broke out. Sore loser.
