Okay about to hit the gym hard. I have what I think is an okay routine. When doing shoulders, traps, biceps and forearms how many sets should I do?

i don't think a good beginner routine should dedicate time to isolate forearms or even traps and biceps. some may disagree but i think you'd be better off doing barbell bench, ohp. deadlifts (conventional and sl) and squats (back and front). need more exercises? dips and pull-ups. need more advanced exercises? have someone help you with cleans and snatches.

once you have a solid foundation down you can throw in the other stuff.

Okay I still have alot to learn. Would you recommend  that I just stick to the machines for the first few weeks. Since they basically tell you what it works on?

So my cardio is going to consist of 15-30 miles of running M-F and Bicycling 10-15 miles on my days off work (Tues/Thurs)

I learned to lift while playing football so compound lifts were the first things I learned. Bench, squat, rows, cleans and dead lift is how we learned. Didn't curl until I was in college. I'd start with free weights, and movements like the bench and shoulder press if I were you

Thanks. Whats like the average sets. 5 x 10-20? I want to be in the gym for an hour or more

Working on machines isn't going to teach you anything. If you want to learn the movements you got to use YouTube or read a good book on lifting weights. Mark Ripptoe's Starting Strength book is a nice book to start.

Will give the book a look. Thanks

I was taught 4 sets of 8-12 if you're going for reps and 4 sets of 4-6 if your going for strength. Each exercise you do, 3-4 reps should do it although some people do more
