STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

It's great if the PT major is/was also an athlete. Great combo.

I don't like when a PT major doesn't play a sport or workout. They have that know it all air but none of the hands on experience of what it's like to train.

If you can afford it, and you enjoy the experience, why not?

Join, and if you don't like it that first month, just quit lol

Amen haha, that's what I'm thinking about doing, the gym I'm looking at is 60$ I was just wondering if anyone on here has done it before....

Is PT personal trainer or does it stand for physical therapist

Yeah, boxing gyms are always fun. The problem is that at the end of the day you actually want to box though (i assume). Being an adult in the real world and having any sort of facial bruises/headaches is not a good look. It gets boring to do cardio (better than other forms I guess). I'd still rather go out for a nice game of hoops, soccer or tennis over that though for my time and monies. I've never made it past 3 months at a boxing gym without being too bored.

Id be careful judging someones knowledge simply based upon their appearance. I know some people who look out of shape but move well and are actually pretty strong.

With that being said, the reverse is also true. I wouldnt assume someones smart just because they have a credential (essentially meaningless) or a degree. I also know people with some good degrees who I wouldnt trust keeping my socks organized.

one fo the best trainers at my gym in the past was this 5'8 290lb dude .. was fat but not exactly out of shape, his knowledge was vast, he was strong as an ox, and he was a super inspirational and motivational. (i've told this in here before)
He was big because of an accident he hadwhich put him out of commission for a long time.. gained weight but then had other personal stuff happening that kept him stressed.

You dont know anyone's true story.

I do understand though on first appearance, im picking the dude who looks like The rock before i'm picking him, but after really do research and seeing how he treated his clients compared to others I'd pick him anyway of the week.

Other trainers who are in shape act like they dont have time or patience sometimes and that's just wrong

the 3 trainers I've seen in my gym that look like they put in the most work and effort is That guy I mentioned above.
the boxer trainer
and the 2 sports specific trainers.

the ones who are just "fitness" trainers seem lazier and jerkish compared.

there was this one hapa trainer at my old gym who had big fake tittays and she used to wear real skimpy clothes and it seemed like all her clients were super old men
this was at a health club where there were a lot of rich dudes and she would do a lot of rubbing up against her clients when assisting them with exercises. i would imagine she probably made plenty of tips.

I was talking about physical therapists this instance
I know a lot of fatass PTs that know crazy things and train athletes. They also work with atc all the time. All they do is fix body mechanics and risk of injuries.

And this is probably more to the point I was trying to make, maybe the credentials thing was too absolute.

Yea that action figure looking meathead may looked jacked and kicking you all kinds of broscience while the Paul Bunyan looking lumberjack is in the corner squatting 405 for reps. Sometimes appearance isn't the end all.

Lol, being well acquainted with sports definitely helps bro. Maybe these guys you know are fat now but they've played a sport in grade or high school or what not. Never said a physical therapist had to be a current athlete.

If you even look at my initial post, it says it's be great if the PT is/WAS an athlete. Great combo.

Of course, you can indeed be a good PT without an athletic background too. The problem that happens is if the PT is unfamiliar with the sport you play or sports in general, it can result in PT giving their patients bad advice.

Same goes for doctors too. I always go for doctors with a background in sports whenever I get hurt. You go to a regular doctor, they'll be like, 'na, don't do this at all' but if you got to a sports doctor with the same injury, they can be more in depth : 'ok, while you can't do that, maybe you can do this a little bit'

Nobody in here is saying that appearance is the end all be all.

Is a boxing membership worth 60$ a month?

depending on how much access you get with training/classes, thats not bad at all...

i was looking for a gym and all the ones I've seen with unlimited access were $100+...

The gym I work out at sometimes is a martial arts gym. They charge $100 for unlimited classes/training. Once you're good just go in there and fight your buddy if you want as much as you want. You gotta get those classes in though.

Breh if you look like Paul Bunyan or a lumberjack, u better be able to rep 405

All that pt dropping the bar talk... I done dropped the bar on myself today on a solo gym mission.

3rd set 7th rep @155 since I know people will ask.

No one saw, rolled it down to my knees like a boss real quick.

This is part of why I don't bench.

Too embarrassed to ask people to spot me.

I know how to bail on a squat so I don't need spotters. Don't need spotters on a deadlift. Clean and jerks and snatches we all know are impossible to spot

I guess drop was the wrong word. I just ran out of gas and couldn't get it back up on the rack. The bar didn't fall out of my hands or nothing  I was in control.

God is my spotter bro and my motivation to lift the weights with a gym full of people is not having to do ^^^ that

Yeah and I did cleans and snatches yesterday so my chest was already in pain. whatever Idgaf half the dudes in the gym don't even sweat. If I go to fatigue on the bench with no spot at 155 I'm not gonna get hurt.
