STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

Yeah there was like 5 new people in the gym last night. One decent girl and one dude who brought a book and watched tv the whole time.

Wth now I'm having hip flexor issues. Its been bothering me for a week now. A trainer has been having me do the thing where you put your leg on a flat surface like a massage table and one leg on the ground while you push into your hip to stretch it out.

Its helping slightly. I can't even squat right. foam rolling is also doing minimal. EDIT: it hurts most when I tried today laying down and bringing my knee to my chest

Flexibility is often overlooked IMO. I always foam roll and warmup properly. I need to be as loose as possible before working out

I've been going to the sauna for about 5-10 min before my workout. First time I did it I felt rubbery throughout the workout. But I've gotten used to it and love it now. My knees always "creak" whenever I squat and it really helps

SAME SAME SAME for me. That laying down and knee to chest is the exact same for me.

Took 3 weeks off and I still cant do a full squat.

Strengthen the hammies, even hammy curls on the machine would help. Also stretch, kinda like on one knee like youre proposing and lean forward. Also lay on your back, have one foot on your knee (as if you were sitting down and putting your foot on your knee like while reading a newspaper) and stretch back, good hamstring stretch and it will be good for your flexor and lower back.

Most important is just time.

I ran into my boy on my way into the gym and decided to skip my workout to play basketball.

I don't know what happened but now my lower back hurts like a MFer.

Never skipping a workout again...

Yep. Learned this the hard way too. Now I spend at least 20-30 minutes warming up before deads or squats with foam roll, dynamic stretches, and resistance band stuff.

I stretch morenow, but i've always just kind of jumped in to my work out. do all the stretching and stuff after... never really hindered me in anyway.
I did do the sauna thing for awhile. which helped...just hoped in there for 5 mins did a little bit of stretching in there then went at it

Haven't seen the inside of a gym since my kid was born 2 months ago. About to finish off all the Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes today and start fresh tomorrow. Bracing for that first two weeks of soreness and pain.

2016 gym goals:

Squat 405
Press the 130lb dumb bells
get a girl to sit on me during dumb bell presses to test out that testosterone boost theory.

I've never been naturally flexible. My default state is always stiff and slow to warm up, even as a teen.

So at 30, dynamic stretching and a good solid warm up for 20 minutes is a must before every session.

I'm even stretching between sets because I'm finding it necessary in order to stay limber. Especially between squat sets. Hamstring flexibility is so necessary for me to save my knees.

Thanks bro. My whole schedule got turned upside down when she was born - plus I ended up moving to a new work office with no gym in that same week. Used to do after work sessions 3-4 times a week. Now I'll be doing mornings before work (ugh).
