Dressing Better Vol 2.0

Since when did Nordstrom charge tax?

Bought some shoe trees today and was charges tax. It's not much so I don't care but I don't remember being charged tax from there before.

Maybe because you only bought clothes before. At least in NJ there isn't tax on clothes. Shoe trees would be subject though.

What state are you in?

Nordstrom has always charge me tax, and I'm from CA. This applies to online and in store.

^ Nordstrom in NJ never charges tax on clothing and shoes unless it's over a certain amount, I've always paid taxes on the shoe trees though.

Today I took my wife to a spa date and dinner date to Mohonk Mountain House in Ulster County, the place is amazingly nice and the spa was worth it, she said. Two outfits, one for walking around the grounds and the another for dinner.

A friend got married there a couple years ago, really nice setting.

No offense but that jacket you're wearing isn't very flattering on you. Maybe it's how you're standing too but you look crammed into it.

It is a beautiful place. I think it's the way I'm standing as I stiffened up for the sake of the picture thinking it would look more natural. The jacket closes easily and probably needs to be nipped on the sides.

Snapped this really quick before putting the jacket away, shows how it actually fits IMO

i just ordered the j crew factory thompson suit (blend) + pants. backordered til july but for $168 i figured why the hell not.

can anyone speak on the thompson suit's shoulders? ive looked on different forums and some have said there is substantial padding and some have its pretty minimal. considering my build, im hoping its minimal. im not small, but not big either (5'10", 209 lbs, usually wear a 44r in jackets). thanks.

The chino Thompson had thick, substantial shoulder pads when I tried it on but the 100% wool version seemed to be a lot more well-constructed/better fitting overall.

I'd say YMMV, it's possible the chino one I tried on was just a lemon.

Whats good fellas? This will be my first on this thread, although I have been a distant observer for a while. A little background- I have been collecting sneakers for a while, but I feel that is time for me to refine my style of dressing along with my choice of footwear. I expended a lot of my "discretionary income" on sneakers, but am now looking to invest into quality clothing for everday wear. (That is not limited to t-shirts, polos, and jeans.)
I have attached some pictures to show you all what I am working with as of now, as far as "dressier" clothes may go.

I have a few solid dress shirts I picked up from Express for $15 a piece as well as two pairs of their slim fit photographer pants. (Black and grey) Besides that I have a pair of navy chinos from J-crew.I have a couple of other button downs that I've shown in the attached pictures as well. As far as suits go, I have a full khaki suit from express. I also have a black velvet blazer from zara and a corduroy blazer from way back when. As far as footwear goes, I have an assortment of cole haan wingtip shoes and such, and a pair of white LV loafers (impulse purchase, price was great, not sure what to wear with em now... any advice is gladly taken.)

I am looking for any advice as towards articles of clothing I can purchase that can be staples of my wardrobe. I would like to buy a few more chinos, but wanted to inquire as to what you all would consider a good brand to start with. (These J. Crew joints are nice, I like the fit and have worn em a couple times.) Also, I want to incorporate some of the current articles of clothing I have into everyday wear-including most of the shoes and the black velvet blazer as they have been sitting around. Sorry for such a long first post, and I appreciate all the prior posts in here as they have given me some ideas and were all quite informative!

As an aside: I do have a lot of jeans, polos and such but I find wearing these boring now. A nice Ralph Lauren polo and jeans can look nice, but I think changing it up would be good.

I've attached some pictures to show what I was talking about.

You may find this blog post by NTer nii to be helpful.

Seriously would donate every single one of those shirts and replace them with white and light blue. Yes, I also own express shirts.

Fit is a very important aspect. This is something that a lot of people transitioning into this kind of style has a hard time with since t shirts and hoodies allow for pretty much unlimited range of motion while jackets and dress shirts don't.

I advise you to spend several minutes to read the first post: http://niketalk.com/t/500141/dressing-better-vol-2-0#post_16004763

After that, feel free to ask any more questions. We'd be happy to put our 2 cents in.
