Slightly off topic...

I figure a large portion of folk in here are in corporate settings during the day...

I'm beginning to wonder...if any of you can get away with dressing well but having facial hair like the dude on the left (minus the moustache)?

My bro is always saying to me, no matter how well you dress in the work environment, having facial hair like that will nullify whatever you're wearing  :smh:

But I think if I can keep the majority of the face clean with the chin strap into bottom beard, maybe it won't be too bad for the corporate setting?

Just left a meeting where one of the senior engineers had a big white beard like Santa. A lot of men here have beards, if I could actually grow one I would do the same. Makes me not looks like a child compared to my co-workers

That's the thing. I look really young with no facial hair (30 btw), I keep a low profile chin strap and a low profile stash, but I've been thinking about a neckbeard like that, cause it will give me a more mature look.

I was also concerned cause a lot of the beards I saw (not necessarily where I work), were on the older fellas, which made me think maybe cause they had so much skin in the game people let them do whatever they want.

I think I'm going to give it a try this winter and feel it out...

Dude in the yellow rocking a serious neckbeard.

Yeah I saw some other picture where he had it freshly lined up, and that's what made me think you could still get away with it in corporate setting.

I think the key to success will be me maintaining it...

Yeah, neatly groomed beards can look bawse like. Still wish I could grow a Leonidas type beard but mine doesn't look right when it gets long.

I just cut my beard off to start a new one. As long as it is well groomed it should be fine. Only place I see it as an issue is in Financial institutions and working in front of customers in sales.

It all depends on the setting but I think facial hair is WAY more accepted now.  It used to be that as a man in most office settings if you weren't clean shaven for a day people looked at you crooked.  I never shave but I keep it pretty neat, right now I trimmed off my beard so it looks like 4-5 days growth but my neck is clean.  For me it looks much better kept if I line it up under my jawline.  Most I usually go with is a couple months which isn't super long but it's thick enough and completely filled it but it's far from sloppy.

You're an engineer tho. The engineers I've worked with are super relaxed in terms of appearance and dress code.

One of my senior managers got a strap but it's neatly kept. Folks are cool with it.

I wish I could grow a beard. Whenever I try I get this weird Asian, patchy, thin, stringy textured mess on my face

  I'm only half Asian too.

If I attempt to grow any type of facial hair, my girl hits me with the

Yeah engineers are more relaxed than say someone in finance or marketing. But still as long as it's groomed neatly I see no problem with a beard.

Neckbeards make me think of cats who just spend all day playing League of Legends

No matter the industry it really depends on the culture at the firm. I recently broke into asset management and the director of my department has full beard that's hardly groomed, but management really emphasizes fostering a laid back environment at the firm.

Neckbeards are never a good look.

I don't have those Rick Ross genes (funnily enough, my father does :smh: ) so I can't get the typical full beard going, so I'm going to work with what I have. Plus I prefer not having to pry out a few in-growns every week.

I thick that neck beard that I posted looks doable, and can still be presentable.

Under your chin beard =/= neck beard

Maintenance and grooming can make even the most funkiest of beards look good.

And for those skrugglin to grow, get that jamaican castor oil...

I didn't start shaving until college

Some of my middle eastern friends have that 5 o clock shadow at 11am in the 9th grade.

More reason to why I firmly believe that JP (Robin Thicke) is not Filipino.

Beard on one hunnit. Cannot be azn.

I remember in middle school and the early part of high school, my friends and I would have mustaches and our dads wouldn't let us shave them off for some reason. I look at yearbook pics and a lot of us are rocking weak mustaches.

Boutique AM firm? or a AM division of a larger firm?

I tend to agree with you on this. Cause my friends work in boutique AM firms which are much more laid back then my other friends who are in AM divisions of IB's or larger banks which are MUCH more rigid about their appearance.
