ITT: Everything Electro/Dubstep/House/Trance Music

Eric Prydz at MSG was incredible on Saturday, I added the only 2 videos I took. I added the link to his full set too. Really worth checking out for prog enthusiasts.

I'm beyond jealous of everyone who gets to see him and Deadmau5 go b2b at day of dead. These are the 2 of the few known dudes in the game that still go out there and actually mix on the fly

Lol to be fair, there's a difference between can mix on the fly and does mix on the fly.

Deadmau5 usually has a kind of cynical sarcastic approach to his big sets and has made fun of how stupid what he does is multiple times. Everyone remembers the pushing the play button quote, making fun of himself being so high up on DJ Mag, and also what he did this past UMF was like his masterpiece of mocking what he does.

But I'm assuming in the b2b it wasn't preplanned and it was an organic well-done mix between the two.

deadmau5 uses an APC with Ableton to launch loops for his live sets. Not really "mixing" per se but I know Prydz doesn't pre-plan his sets and the last time they played they both went into the show having no clue what they or each other were going to play.


As far as 2 if the few that actually mix on the fly, you're missing out big time sticking with the mainstream dance music. The top techno/house guys all are true dj's.

I was just making a statement, I dont stick to mainstream. I mostly **** with deep/minimal/garage/techno DJ's/producers but I'll always check for my favorites no matter how popular they get like Axwell, Prydz, etc

The funniest thing in the "scene" are the "snobs" that go from Afrojack and Avicii to anything techno overnight and then belittle mainstream edm like they werent at Dayglow less than a year ago. Its even funnier personally knowing these kinda people. I know peoples tastes change, but not that rapidly

i hear ya. but i disagree with that 2nd part.i think its possible in this case to change that quickly.
let me add that it might not have been a CHANGE at all..
it could just be finally coming across the sound/vibe/scene/party/crowd/etc that you dig. which was the case for me.
once u dig deep into something, u just get to the point where u just know better. more informed.

ive been exposed to electronic/dance music since mid-late 90s.
started off like a typical 90s kid would, with stuff on mtv (the prodigy, bassment jaxx, chemical bros, fatboy slim, etc)
then of course that led to trance, progg house, electro house etc. at which point i started getting really into it.

but then when i first came across "real" house (and also techno a little after that ) around 2006-7, and actually went to proper parties (clubs/warehouse)
i abandoned the EDM stuff pretty quickly. its just one of those things where it just "clicks" and you finally truly understand what its all about.

and ive always been the type to dig deeper than the mainstream in any genre, so i was actively searching for what i knew would be the
"underground" stuff even while i was into the EDM stuff. it just took me a while to figure evertyhing out, since not a lot of it was exposed like it is today.

i still went to a few festivals (edc, nocturnal, etc) after that, but found myself enjoying them less and less.
and back then, tickets were way cheaper but line ups were even more lopsided.
they were ignoring house and techno almost completely.. at least now they try to cater to that crowd, even tho its the same djs over n over.

the transition took less than a year for me im guessing, probably a lot less.
its kinda like when i moved to LA and had easy access to real mexican food, i abandoned taco bell immediately.
why would i wanna go back?

oh and my lol wasnt directed AT you btw.
i just loling at EDM as a whole, if in fact those 2 are the only ones that actually dj.

oh, and what you said about checkiing on ur favorite no matter how popular they get - its wasnt about popularity for me.
its really was just about searching for the music that resonated with me.

Idk about other but with me, I one day just got sick of the repetitiveness of where the EDM scene was going. I decided to check out a Carl Cox set from Ultra that year, it was only about 2 years ago or so, and the music I heard in that set just took me to places the stuff I was listening to at that time wasn't. Immediately took a long break from all that. I had been doing the festival/massives thing for 6/7 years up to that point and I probably played it out to myself as well. I haven't fully abandoned all that, I love Prydz, deadmau5 forever is one of my favorite musicians and I plan on seeing him next year when he goes back on tour (granted he's separated from that scene), I still **** with Crookers heavy and they were probably who got me into electro house first, Boys Noize is still a top 3 favorite of mine. There's just no more originality with a lot of the new stuff anymore which sucks, I tried seeing a few of the bigger guys at Coachella and some were cool like GTA but I didn't enjoy Flosstradamus and Dillon Francis' set sounded like a lot of the same stuff when he was playing electro house, and I like Dillon. I think a resurge is due and the people that oversaturated the scene are going to flush out soon enough, I'm just on a long break until the music develops out of where it's at.

I hear you guys. I didnt word it properly, because I actually do think your taste can change pretty rapidly. It might just take one song or one set and boom, you discover a sound that just resonates with you like no other. I'm talking more about people that ride whats hot at the moment and ridicule people that like a sound they were all about just a week ago.

hmmm, im not too fond of tech house.
some stuff i like could be categorized as tech house i suppose (elements of both)
but its not really like the stuff on the beatport top 10 tech house list.
for me tech house is just too middle of the road, too bland.
not banging enough like techno, not groovy/deep/soulful enough like house.
just sounds too....plastic to me. no depth.

i love stuff that blurs the line between techno and house tho...so i donno i guess its tech house??
or techno-house? lol i donno. but yea, levon vincent is excellent at doing this.

 
Yeaa immediately after I made the post I thought I should just edit the tech part out to include all different types of house for basically that very reason. A lot of music labeled as tech house now is being made with so many different influences that it might as well just be labeled as house.

I'm going to catch up on a lot of the posts here over the weekend and I'll let you know how I like what you posted.

But yea I've really been digging a lot of music with funky/groovy (for lack of a better way of describing) basslines and/or pumping bass that's very danceable (I know this is relative but I'm sure what I mean can be understood.)

yea i mean, i just took a quick listen to the tech house list on beatport,
and most sounded like progressive house with a tinge of that techi-ness. not my cup o tea.

groovy and funky eh? hmmm

this is a classic
