**The Official Ralph Lauren Polo Thread**

i've made a few custom long bills but none that mimic actual pieces.

Same here...I don't know if we will ever see 91-94 era long bills again, so if you can be creative and make something new, vintage inspired I'm all for that. Just attempt to break the mold, make it fresh and unique. Love your customs PS

We were also trying to figure out what the base would have been. And, that's possibly a candidate. What's the tag look like on the Mt. Whitney - is it 80% cotton, 20% acrylic?

I have Japanese p-wing sweatshirts and they have different tagging.
83% cotton 17% polyester
It looks a lot like it...is the cuffs the same on yours as well (your shows the cuff rolled half way)
it has the same white stripes on the cuffs

These are not customs. Woman's Lauren line. Last two people I have seen with them.

Just to get this out of the way and make it clear, I have no issues with customs as long as they are represented properly.

I definitely understand that people are unwilling to pay the asking price for these items. And, I don't blame them. But, to me, I just say, let it go. If there's something that I like but am unwilling to pay for, I just resign myself to the fact that I'll never own it. ...Either that, or try to figure a way to come up with the money to acquire it in the least painful way possible.

But, to me, it seems antithetical for somebody who holds the culture so dear to don a replica - and pay substantial coin to do so! That's like looking for love in a brothel.

It's also another thing if customs/replicas are made above board and treated as such. Like, when all those grey p-wing tees were screen printed years back - that's fine if you want to produce some custom wings that you can wear to the gym or something. But, once somebody puts one on ebay for like $250, it undermines the integrity of the whole production run, IMO.

Customs have been apart of the lifestyle since day one. I have seen some that are better than stuff that was on the racks but with all things a lot of the champs are not in the game anymore so what you get is subpar pieces. I'm a creative individual and I feel if Ralph is not making what I like then f**k em ill make it myself. Now the only rule I have for myself is that it has to be all Ralph or nothing and I have never fronted as if it was not a custom when it mos def was. Hell I'm proud of my gifts to create on all fronts. I see a lot of heads that came into the lifestyle in the 90's with this mindset and along with the term "power piece"?? As I have some of said pieces of power I get it I just don't subscribe to that notion but I digress. Replica is a term I see used in the kicks game in the last year or so and again I don't apply it to what I do as I make it a point to let it be know it's a custom. Some of it I don't like but I can't from on the craftsmanship( the dreaded teddy bed sheet comes to mind) to Those's that get there ox on and get to work I say keep banging.

Big Krash - he on the wavelength!

And, I feel you completely on the custom thing. Destroy and rebuild is dope - if you take original RL components and flip something new - especially if it's not derivative. Replicas, not so much.

BTW, when I use term "power" it's really just shorthand. I'm not all that fond of the term either.

My best guess is that, at some point the red bled into the white, and the owner decided to just dye the whole thing red, giving it the red washed look...I actually like it thou

That's actually kind of dope. When life hands you cranberries, make cranberry lemonade!

nah, dawg... dem price yuh' caan wuk

That would qualify as a "steal" by today's standards were it authentic.

Haha thanks @frankMatthews
I really enjoy this thread, and I currently have some free time. Many of my longtime friends that I grew with me in this culture have pretty much moved on, so it's cool to meet and build with other Ralph Lauren enthusiasts.

I agree. It's good to see it so active, I can entertain myself for more than 5 mins catching up in here now.

looks like they gave it the new "vintage" treatment. the sleeves look tattered. also looks like a custom fit. i'm tired of them doing this to all the new stuff. such a turnoff. just make it classic fit and no "vintage" treatment sheesh. curious if the shark graphic wraps around the back, unless it's just the front. shark week is so serious business.

I'm sure they have millions of the weathered polos just waiting to slap some graphics, embroidery or patches on every season. I don't mind it but it definitely changes the aesthetic and how and what i would wear it with. I don't even think they make classic fit anymore unless you want a pima mesh.

Anyone own a pair of the polo bayard slim fit denim? If so how's the quality for the 245 price tag on them

Krash, nice patch collection. I have all those Indian heads except the circular light colored one.

Thanks. Some are going on garments and some in a scrap book...I have been doing the last 19 years or so[emoji]128555[/emoji][emoji]128555[/emoji][emoji]128555[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]

Bip what's good. That was not to you or any body but just that term itself. before VGA I never heard anybody even refer to any clothing let a lone Lo. I hate that the same as "what's the value or how much is this worth"

krash, i am referring to an athletic dept screen custom hoody middy did. pirate picked it up on ebay.

which hat are you talking about?
jay I thought you was talking about something from the VGA days. Lol FYI did you know cats still post on the VGA bord? Zoo and prime have nothing to do with it. It's a yuku thing now.

They are amazing. The denim itself is nothing special really but the craftsmanship is nice. Probably one of my favorite pairs now. I love the varick slim fit. Of course I only paid $90, I would probably pass if I had to pay retail.
