Anyone ever have a package stolen by Fedex?

-Ordered my item two weeks ago, it shipped on the 17th.

-Missed the first two deliveries due to them stopping by at random times. As a result I redirected it to my local FedEx Office to avoid missing it again and having it shipped back to the retailer.

-FedEx Office never received it by the date they were supposed to which was yesterday.

-Called FedEx customer service this morning to find out what was going on with the package and after finding out it was at the warehouse for the past five days, they informed me that I'd be able to pick up my item today.

-Stopped by my FedEx Office to pick up said package and after they looked for almost a half hour, they called FedEx as well as the local dispatcher.

-The local dispatcher informed them that the driver claimed that he dropped it off at the location. They told the dispatcher they never received it because when they do its immediately scanned and automatically updates the tracking status.

-The people at FedEx Office deduced that the driver stole the package and advise me to call FedEx to file a claim.

-Got off the phone with FedEx about an hour ago and they said that they will begin an investigation tomorrow morning.

-My bank told me that if the retailer refuses to refund my money as I never received the item, they'll start an investigation themselves in which they'll credit me for my loss.

As you'd expect, I'm rightfully upset about having my merchandise stolen. I'm more upset that someone you'd trust (the courier) decided to help themselves to something that was not theirs to take. You hear stories (as seen in the Secrets About Your Job thread) all the time about some UPS/Fedex workers intentionally damaging packages in addition to stealing whatever they can get their hands on (money, laptops, HDTVs, jewelry, etc.). My question is, especially for the NTers that admitted to doing this, how can you look yourself in the mirror knowing that you use your position to steal things that people have worked hard for? I don't know if anything will happen to the person that stole my product, but if anything does I hope that he loses his job at the least. I'm not expecting sympathy, but I wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else here? You can't have anything anymore because of stuff like this.
