That's real petty of th

Meth, how is Fox even aware of us, or this thread specifically?

And when you say 5th time, you mean just in this thread, or Fox has complained about 5 different threads relating to their movies?
I think niketalk is alot bigger than we give it credit for

NT should boycott DoFP

People are probably going to post images and material without thinking about it. Even if you put a warning on the OP or sticky it to the top of general.

If everyone was in here hyping the movie they wouldn't have a problem. Didn't this same thing happen in the TMNT thread last year?
It's also happened regarding the "Wolverine" movie that is or was in production recently.

The "TMNT" request concerned photos allegedly taken inside their studios without consent, so it's a bit easier to understand.

Oddly, I've yet to receive any such requests concerning movies that are not widely considered an embarrassing perversion of beloved source material.

I just want to make sure everyone's aware of the issue - and understands that it really isn't worth the trouble for NikeTalk to host a discussion that's likely to produce a bunch of legal threats.  To keep it going, you guys would have to help us make sure that no copyrighted videos or images are being uploaded to our servers.  It's a violation of our Terms of Service and the studio's copyrights.

Huddler does a good job of SEO.  I imagine that when their goons search for film titles we do come up eventually.

The five complaints concern four different films, I believe.

And most studios understand that.  It's usually considered a positive if a fan is going around discussing your movie or sharing images/trailers.  Someone at Fox's "legal group" apparently doesn't see it that way, so we may have to preemptively close certain threads if we believe that it's just going to create a risk for our community.

I wouldn't if its in the OP or thread title
But man I BARELY come into this thread as it is
The marvel movies thread and that other big movies thread are better than this movie we STILL barely have any details on that releases in a month
That's usually a bad thing

I meant that it's probably just better to close the thread in this case. People will probably post stuff in here even after this. Better to just avoid the risk. It's not like it'll be a huge loss given what we've seen from this movie so far

I agree with this.

Minus whale close shop on this thread

Unrelated: Does anyone know the type of involvement Marvel has with their non-MS movies? Like does Kevin Feige get to consult with Fox/Sony?

Ugh, not surprised. I forgot if it was for X-Men: The Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine but they tried to have bloggers and reviewers take down their early reviews.

BUT, I still have faith! Keep this open!

I think if they're going to be poop chutes then we shouldnt promote their content at all. We've wasted space on our site discussing what looks like trash anyway but they wanna be jerks on top of that. **** em

Screw this movie and fox. No way am I supporting this filth. I'm tired of them turning X-Men into foX-men anyways.
Deadpool :x
Silver Samurai :smh:
Sentinels :rolleyes
Rogue :rolleyes
90 year old Magneto
Everything revolves around Wolverine :smh:
And let's not forget Quicksilver

i believe it would be a let down to shut down the threads

especially if its as ludicrous as u say

ESPECIALLY if we are abiding by the rules of conduct

Users aren't permitted to upload copyrighted images.  Whenever you use the uploader, you have to check a box specifically indicating that you're NOT going to violate somebody's copyrights.

Clearly there is an issue here, as users are posting images indiscriminately and leaked images in particular are going to result in our staff receiving a legal threat.

Now, if this were a rare occurrence, we could deal with the cleanup.  Twentieth Century Fox, however, has become so needlessly and gratuitously litigious of late that it's just not worth it.  Why reward them with free publicity when they're constantly threatening us - and when these threats are, at times, utterly ridiculous?

It's like if the NBA started harassing us every time a user posted a screenshot of an NBA game without the express written consent of the league.  It's bad for their business and ours.

If I had to guess what it was, it's the tone of the conversation. If we were all doing backflips, acting crazy hyped for DoFP, I doubt this would be happening. But the fact that from the very first promo images on, we've been skeptical and just plain old indignant, clowning on every new thing that comes out...

Fox probably sees this as something that could pop up in a search and put people off from the film.

I'm betting they just want the thread shut down, so it can stop showing up on google and putting bad buzz on their movie.

Ok, in this sense, how do we know and check what is "ok" and what is not?

Like, we post the movie preview from youtube, I assume that's ok.

If we have a picture from google of Halle Berry on set, is that ok to post, or is that copyrighted?

Is it simply the matter of vids/pics, or is it us speaking negatively about a film that's not yet out that's pissing them off?

Or like us complaining about Wolverine being the one that travels thru time to the past, whereas the origin in the comic books it was not him, is that what they are saying we are stepping on their toes about?

They have no right to complain about your speech or opinions - and they haven't.

The only thing they've complained about, with the exception of their farcical Fantastic Four "plot points" claim, has been the posting of what they consider "copyrighted images."

How do you know which images are owned by Fox and which are "public domain?"  Well, if you'd asked me yesterday, I'd have told you that you should stick to materials that have been distributed by Twentieth Century Fox for the purpose of publicity.

(e.g. http://www.balough.com/frankly-my-dear-it-has-no-copyright/#.U0XHUfnw3Kc

Now that they've issued a legal threat to request the removal of, among other things, their own movie posters, I'd say that you shouldn't upload ANY images related to this movie - or any other Twentieth Century Fox movie - to our servers.  If you see images on a movie site, Google, whatever and you'd like to share them - just post a link.  Let them worry about it.  Obviously we don't want anyone to post links or otherwise direct users to ANYTHING that supports piracy, but if there's a news post on a legitimate movie site about a Twentieth Century Fox movie that contains images of a film in production, just link to the site and don't host the images on our servers.

Personally, I have no plans to see this or any other upcoming Fox movie.  There's reasonable, cooperative use of the DMCA to protect someone's IP and copyrights from abuse, and then there's hamfisted attempts at bullying online communities and media outlets for dubious reasons.  I'm of the opinion that these latest takedown requests fall into the latter category.

If they're so terrified of people catching a glimpse of a movie that's due out in a few weeks, perhaps Fox should concentrate on making better films and keeping a closer watch on the people who "leak" these images to begin with.

I'm ok with shutting down this thread and other Fox studio threads as well. Who cares about this garbage, we can tell this movie will be terrible based on their track record and the way they are now acting.

The thing is Fox, you shouldn’t be mad at us for voicing our displeasure. (which is what we ultimately believe to be your motive for hushing us up) We’re the fans you should be trying to appease.

None of us in here want you to fail, or suck at your jobs. Pretty much every one of us want you to be great. We want these films to succeed, and we want to be excited for them, much like we were excited for Captain America 2, or the upcoming Spiderman 2, or The Avengers, and The Dark Knight.

The same fans in here that are upset with the direction the X-Men franchise has taken on screen, are the same ones that devour movies from those other studios. We WANT your films to resonate the same as those films. We WANT to be excited for this movie next month. We WANT X-Men Apocalypse to be outstanding, and have us counting down the minutes until we can see it. But the reality is, your studio has done a terrible job making us, your fans and clients, happy. You slap us in the face with your work. You ignore our complaints, and instead resort to tactics like these where you threaten legal actions against forums that let us sound off.

If you did your jobs better, and made better quality movies, we would all be in this thread praising you endlessly, word after word of praise, much like you can currently see in the Captain America 2 thread on this same site. Marvel and Disney studios aren’t chasing us down in those threads, because they did outstanding work, and we are all very pleased with it, and have said so, repeatedly. We want to get excited over filming, costumes, teaser trailers, full trailers, behind the scenes trailers, interviews, and any other bit of info we can find in the internet age. We WANT to see your movie(s) become great, and if they were, we would undoubtedly speak on it in a glowing light.

I find it very difficult to believe if this thread was full of positive energy and happiness with the direction of this franchise and excitement was teeming, you wouldn’t be pressuring our owners to remove content and shut down conversation on a movie that you want us to see.

Stop making Burger King commercials to sell your movie, and MAKE A BETTER MOVIE. Write a better movie. Direct a better movie. Do better following your source material, not forcing one or two characters down our throats, and honor the comics the way other studios seem to be able to do and you won’t have threads like this full of low expectations.

Focus on your movies more, and not us, and soon you will discover we want to be on your side, you just let us down, not the other way around.
