Does It Even Make Sense To Buy Jordans On Release Date?

Realistically most GRs are selling out these days and more limited shoes i.e. XIs series have been selling out every christmas. This christmas I saw a lady camp out for her husbands Concords for christmas, she waited overnight at midnight and went with the normal hassle of being in line for sneakers (mall security moving them, standing all day I even think she brought a friend.

Now this weekend I was offered to buy a pair of concords or cool grey for 250. The killer thing is I ended up really only paying 200 for cool greys, brand new. Lets be honest NT we arent wearing kicks as soon as they drop most of us put them in reserve for a better season so why kill yourself on some random saturday (you should be going out on friday enjoying life) just to have a shoe you prob dont even care for that much. The resell market is pretty much a buyers market right now. With the economy being bad (forcing people to sell kicks) and everyone trying to be a reseller you can get shoes for probably 40 bucks at average over retail in lets say 2 months.

Also it gives you more time to save + research the shoe. We know how JB quality is these days I was really disappointed with the Olympic 6s.

Around MY way? ..GR's DO sell out, if not on RD, 100% they're ghost by the following Wednesday. ..so I feel you there.

Also agree, that probably the MAJORITY of us have double digits in kicks, far as pairs we own.
..agree again that it's RARE you rock the kicks you JUST bought.

I guess MY reason for coppin'on RD? ..is I HATE paying above retail. Period. ..even forty bucks. (which is dumb good, considering)
If you've been on NT long enough, or have enough "real life" friends that buy/are into kicks? ..this logic is probably fairly sound.
..as it's probably not TOO difficult for you to obtain kicks 2 months after RD for a "reasonable price".
Also, the "hype" surrounding a release has usually peaked & started to decline by then, & the more outrageous after market price points start to come back down to reality.

Personally? ..the fact that we know months in advance something is dropping, makes me fiend.
If I want a shoe? ..that 6 month wait from when the pics. & confirmation hit, to RD? ..that's long enough a wait, for me.
I'd rather stand in line for a few hours, instead of trying to track them down or barter at some point down the line.
Rather NOT deal w/shipping, tracking numbers, Paypal, fraud, etc.

Honestly tho'? ..ever since the Concords dropped, I've thought the same thing once or twice. ..bet a few of us have.
I know dudes that would rather prepay, KNOWING they're probably getting B grades or fakes, just to avoid the circus it's become.

All that said? ..I want my kicks ON RD, and at RETAIL. Period.
I can't see NOT copping something I really WANT as soon as possible.
Plus, too many kicks I've let slide at this point, only to see'em go thru the roof, after market.
Then I'm extra salty, because I KNEW they were droppin', & decided to wait. ..which makes it MY fault. Blah.
See where you're coming from tho', 100%.

If I like it, then i'll try online and/or head out to my local spot when i wake up in the morning.  Told myself I'm not waiting for more than an hour or two anymore since wc4s and never looked back.  If I end up not liking the quality, I just sell to the best offer I get at the end of the day.  *crossing my fingers on getting an offer involving a pair of jams or royal ones sometime..*

but unless you have a NEED for the it on RD (rarely do i see sufficient justification for this), then no it's not worth it.  and a lot of times, even if you have a need; if you have any job (min wage included), you're better off going to work than camping  (i.e. the kids camping for GMP a week before) and paying resell prices

why pay 250 for a sneaker when you can pay retail on release date.....GR arent really hard to get on release date...

you could always return the shoes if you dont like the quality or the fit...

i agree the prices of kicks are going higher and higher. i love shoes but not always having $150+ for the latest pair makes me reconsider everything. lebrons are $170+ and they dont even have leather no more,i know what shoes cost and even what you can get shoes for on sale. maybe im getting older or maybe resellers are forcing me out but my game has always been to get whatever i want for the bottom dollar.

IDK how stores are handling releases around y'alls way, but out in LA these no more camping. Everyone enters a raffle Thurs and if they win their called on Friday. Haven't camped out since the Concords, before BC III's, and before that Aqua VIII's.

I know people into shoes like their shoes in hand release day, but if you wait you can get that shoe retail when the buyers desperate.

this, except it is hard for some to cop a GR on RD if the demand is more than the supply in their geographic location.

Everyone should just do the raffle thing. Its still exclusive as you have to be there on a certain day before 6pm. So it not like everyone is gonna be getting a ticket. And it gets rid of these hypebeasts kids that just love to camp out so they can post on fb how cool they are. half of them don't even want the shoe.... they want the hype. GR are pretty easy to get in my area im talking bout the limited shoes.

I just can't fathom being exploited/owned by some reseller...this is why I line up....It "grinds my gears" when I hear others in line saying: "I'll grab whatever is available so I can flip em on ebay, craigslist, etc...or...u know how much imma flip these for??

Air jordans dont sell out on first day, though
Regular sizes between 8 to 13 often do.
it also depends on where u live.
Another reason why they sell out are
Resellers who purchase many pairs.
without them, there should be less chaos
Purchasing the jordans.

i agree with the above statement

i skip retail sometime just to see if i run into some of the retros on shelves or for doubles if i did get on rd

F*** da whole raffle idea, nvm run thru that if I did I'll tell them to kiss it where the sun dont shine, camping or just able to get a pair of any sneaker on its release date makes the whole experience of the sneaker culture... And also these day no one wants to spend a arm or leg for sneaker that are not worth a piece you might not agree on, I said produce a bit more but not where we see them on the shelve to 2+ months.....

I don't buy on release day anymore because i work Saturday morning and can't afford to spend my Friday night on a shoe line.. I have always been and still am a firm believer in not paying over retail.. But now retail prices are so high I'll avoid even trying to get from any store because of the lines and now look online for a shop selling them for a decent price. The game changes for all of us at some point..

For me its a dealbreaker if i have to pay 100$ more for a shoe (40, two months later, +shipping = no way). thats why I cop everything at RD.

BTW: I dont understand why everyone is talking about jays getting so expensive. 3s in the release year were 130 and today 160? some others 185... considering inflation over more than 20years, thats an absolutely reasonable move from JB. Besides that, 130 or 160 are way too much for a shoe that costs them 10$ to produce...

Umm... 3s (and 4s) were $99 retail from 88-2003, it wasnt until 2006 JB decided to rack up the price to 135. Now theyre $160, thats a 60% increase for a 25 year old design/technology.

you sir are correct.....remember in do the right thing .....dude in the background is like he paid 108 bcks with tax lol in the epic scene with buggin out....... Them joints is broke! Might aswell throw em out! Lmao!......anyways .....on with the thread lol

Unless im getting a discount at a later date... then im good with retail on release date. I dont go out at all to cop anymore its online/phone order or nothing for me, and so far ive been successful with every shoe ive wanted and ordered.

It really depends on the shoe. Most shoes don't even go for that much right after release date (talking maybe $50 above retail + tax). I will gladly pay $50 for my safety and a good night's sleep.
Jordans aren't even going for that much anymore. Foams are becoming more expensive to buy (reseller wise) than Jordans. The only Jordan I expect to pay $300+ for the next night are the XIs, but with Galaxy Foams going for $800+, Yeezys going for $1500+, MV Elites going for $450-500, Nerfs going for $2000 or so, I really don't care anymore.

I don't pay above retail for anything unless I'm fiending for it. Anything else I can't get at retail, its not meant for me.

Certain releases are not worth going through the hassle of copping on release date, but I remember being 14.  Camping out for OG's before they were OG's.  Skipping school just to show up at lunch and floss my new J's.  That feeling still resides in me. So when cool grey's 11's and he got game 13's drop I'm out there.
