THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

It's official, Kiffin has been fired and the team will bring Garrett back.

I just hope we can stay committed to a defensive scheme.

Yeah, I still like the 4-3. Rod will probably be gone too now :smh: Him and the RB/WR coaches were the only bright spots in our staff.

I'm not a huge fan of Dooley but I did like Gary Brown ... I think Rod stays and becomes DC, if not, I have no clue who we're bringing in. Callahan can stay as OL coach but we need to bring in a OC and fire Wade Wilson as well.

Offense I have very little problem with in terms of personnel. Playcalling by coaches is another thing entirely. Other than trying to get out of Miles contract, and replacing both the LG & RG is all we can really do that makes sense. That isn't really big on my priority list.

DL - Ware isn't going anywhere (just focus on getting all his ailments in check, and come ready to have a healthy season). Selvie deserves to come back, he played well. I'd take paying Hatcher over Spencer right now. Probably would be less overall salary in terms of years.

LB - Sean Lee is the only definite back. I'd like them to move him to OLB. He is a good pursuer, so it would make sense to have him cover flats, screens, and RBs trying to turn the corner. Great player, but we need to change some thing on the defense, and I'm not too convinced about having him defend the middle, regardless of the 4 picks. Also if he is going to miss games like he does, I'd rather have to replace an OLB which is a little less important than having to fill in the blanks with our MLB.

Really no one else should be safe on defense. But at the same time, we have no idea because of injuries. Maybe a new scheme works, but we can't afford to just assume well if we had a different defensive scheme we'll definitely be better and make no moves.

Some positive takeaways from this season:

Tyron Smith - Dude is blossoming into the perennial All Pro tackle the team expected him to be when he was drafted. Great season by him.

Travis Frederick - Like many of you I was pissed about "wasting" a first round pick on him, but he was solid at Center for us and helped make the offensive line, an area of weakness the last few years a strength this year.

Terrance Williams - He got off to a shaky start, but turned it around and made some key plays over the course of the season. Showed flashes of being a reliable #2 WR in this offense, and may be the main reason Miles becomes expendable this offseason.

Dez - Another great season by him. Needs to keep his emotions in check better.

DeMarco Murray - He missed his usual 2 games or so, but managed to have his best season as a Cowboy. Our first 1,000 yard rusher since Julius Jones I believe and averaged over 5.2 YPC doing it. Damn shame he didn't get more touches this season.

Hatch already said hes going to the highest bidder. Might be able to get Spencer back strictly due to him being injured and nobody is going to want to pay him. Ware, Carr, and Austin (if he even stays) should be asked to restructure. None of them deserve what they are making.

I want to go D-line, linebacker, and safety in the draft. If we can get a tackle to eventually replace Free im with that too

Ware already stated he would be willing to restructure his contract. Hopefully others follow suit. We need EVERY penny we can get this off-season.

Need one safety, maybe one LB, and a load of defensive linemen in the draft... I'm not overly concerned about the OL this year actually... They played well this year for the most part. Maybe a guard if one falls in our laps, but that's it.

Honestly I'm not worried about the cap situation. If there's one thing that Jerry is good at as a football guy it's working the cap. Besides, I don't want major pieces coming in via free agency.
We need to get at least 3 Dline guys in the draft.

We need some free agent pieces to come in, verterans who have been consistent winners in this league. We lack toughness, physically and mentally outside of a few players.

another heartbreaking way to end the season :frown:

the tough part is orton played well last night too & so did our defense... they gave us hope & then on that final drive just crushed everything

They were too short handed to spot them ten points. I knew that they would have to play a clean and inspired to win. End of the day this personnel isn't good enough and won't be until they make drastic changes. You can change all the coaches you want but you can't win with injury prone dudes and average dudes. I've been saying it for years, the way they can win more is if they get better in the trenches on both sides of the ball. You need to get to the other teams QB and protect yours.

Yes this is true but u have to also admit that the duo of Garrett and Romo just doesn't cut it. Neither one of them has a speck of true confidence in their bones to be making some of the decisions they make. I remember when JG was just an asst coach and he said on the record that he likes to take risky chances and him and Romo were one in the same. That's not going to get us anywhere.

I just don't get how someone can be so delusional see that a guy isn't cutting it after having losing records in Dec consecutively.

Sigh of relief.... Frazier will be the DC in Tampa. Adam Schefter is rarely right when it comes to the Cowboys

The way I see it let Kiffin revamp his Tampa 2 scheme, and get another draft under his belt.
The majority of our draft was offense and Kiffin obviously didn't know how frail his newly acquired LB/DB starters were.

Sean Lee needs to be on the field all 16.

Bruce Carter will continue to get better. And Mo has no choice but to play better.

Kiffin's biggest mistake was thinking he could plug and play with the d-line.
It showed how good Kiffin and Marinelli are as teachers, but left us vulnerable as soon as the injury bug hit the team.

Jason Hatcher's huge year priced himself out of Dallas, correct.
