THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

We need another QB simple as that, and if bringing in one causes a media fire storm, then so be it. This mentality is the reason why Romo has never has a capable backup BC people are afraid to give him competition for the starting spot.

I no longer give a crap about media, I just wanna win and im tired of our QB always being "one hit away" and cringing every time he's sacked.

With being said I wouldnt mind bringing in RG3, not so sure about Johnny or Kaep tho.

yup.

except Id consider Kap

Johnny, Robert, and Colin all garbage to me

Again, reach out to TB and see what they want for Glennon, we have a bunch of 6th round picks we could use to facilitate a trade.

Glennon is a better fit for our current team and staff, plus he's already proven he's a capable starter when given the opportunity.

What the hell is Wade Wilson, Scott Linehan, and Jason Garrett gonna do for Johnny, RG3, and Kaep? Not a damn thing

Let those guys resurrect or destroy their careers elsewhere, not worth it in my opinion.

^ So when Romo breaks his collarbone next season, we can get another top 5 pick. Sounds like a great idea.

I guess you expect Romo to play another 5 years like Jerry Jones.

There is no way you can decide not to QB, Romo could break his collarbone again next season and retire.

Neither one of the top ranked QBs in this year's draft is worth a top 5 pick.

Has nothing to do with expecting Romo to play another 5 years, we can easily trade down and still end up with young QB to groom in the 2nd or 3rd round, it's about maximizing your assets.

You can also sign a real backup QB in the off season as well, not Weeden/Cassel.

Mike Glennon will also be available, trading one of our lower picks to TB for him wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Point is we have options, trading Romo for a 5th round pick and signing a WR in free agency isn't one of those options though.

Are you telling me that no QB in the entire draft will turn out to be as good as or better than Romo within the next 2-3 years? We need a competent QB that can take over for Romo, he doesn't have to be the next Tom Brady.

If there isn't a game changing level of player available with that pick in a position other than QB, you have to go QB and take the best QB available.

And who in the world is Mike Glennon, if he isn't good enough to start over Jameis Winston, what makes you think he will be any good.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to drafting 2 QBs. One in the 1st round and another in the late rounds like the 4th or 5th round.

Jameis was the #1 pick, you sound crazy  .. Lovie wanted his own QB.

I also stated that we can take a QB in the 2nd/3rd along with trading for Glennon. I do not think there's a franchise QB in this draft which is why I'm not on board with using our 1st round pick on one.

If Ramsey is there I take him and hope Wentz makes it to the second round that kills both needs. sign tru bring back hardy, find a 1 tech and a running back in the third or fourth

With Jerry Jones track record with QBs, I bet there are people on this board that could have done better.

One thing we can be glad for. Washington made the playoffs. And now get the 21st pick.

So from first this year, right back to last next year. Without even getting a whiff of winning a playoff game.

An idea I have....

-Re-sign Greg Hardy & Ro McClain.
-Take Joey Bosa at 4.
-Move Greg Hardy to DT. Has played there before, and can play there.
-Gives us Bosa & Hardy who are versatile enough on Pass & Run D.
-Their need to be schemed against forces the offense to focus on both of them opening up lanes for Crawford (who was playing with a bad shoulder injury), Lawrence & Gregory.
- Ro McClain & Sean Lee are also beasts on the run. But on passing downs, with Bosa, Hardy & Crawford, we can afford to run a 4 man, and have them go into coverage. Maybe even leak Hitchens or whoever is playing SAM that play to go for broke on a blitz.

- You move Byron Jones as permanent Strong Safety. He is one of the few guys who did well against Gronk, and is also an athletic freak enough to break on the ball and beat a carrier to the outside.

-Do some cap magic and pull a DB in FA... I know we can sign Hardy & McClain, and still pull a top DB. If you look at all of our FAs. After Hardy & McClain, everything that's a FA is either a depth guy for us, or won't get a payday due to injury.

And with that you solve almost all of your defense problems in round 1. And can focus on offensive questions from there out.

Chargers are maybe the only team that may take Bosa at # 3. But there's so much lacking on the offensive side for them, and just giving Rivers $65mil guaranteed over 4 years, and they were top 7 in QB hits, and 32nd running, they should probably go OL as well(Titans mocked everywhere for a LT) regardless of how bad they are on Run D.

You guys dont think that LB and TE are overlooked positions for us going into this offseason thus far?? Not to spend a 1st, but it needs to be addressed more than it is talked about so far. One guy is inconsistent and/or has too many off-field issues. The other is great but injuries keep him inactive. I think we couldve gotten more from the LB this year aside from the injuries suffered.

we dont take the time to groom the TEs we drafted.

As long as Romo is in the league. And so is Witten. It's futile.

Witten is obviously at the end. But the communication they have, unless you drafting a complete stud, it isn't worth it.

As for LB. The line and secondary is far more important. Lee and Ro were fine this season. They were not the problem on defense.

I think bosa is a strong side end at best in the league and tank is already better than him at that

Take Ramsey and your safeties are set for a decade! resign hardy (or Mario williams) and a cb who can play and the defense is definitely a top ten group

I was speaking more toward the LBs. Somewhere in this draft we should get a LB, but they usually cover themselves at need positions in free agency before we even get to the draft tho

I wonder how the team feels about McClain if they even want to bring him back. Either way they probably should look in the draft and maybe FA

Jeremy Mincey: It will be hard to bring Greg Hardy back to Dallas

Posted by Darin Gantt on January 12, 2016, 8:15 AM EST
ARLINGTON, TX - OCTOBER 11:

Veteran defensive end Jeremy Mincey sat next to Greg Hardy in the Cowboys locker room, so he’s not going to just come out and trash his neighbor.

Even while trashing his neighbor.

During an interview with KDFW 4 in Dallas, Mincey began by saying he found Hardy to be “misunderstood,” but then laid out a pretty convincing case why the free agent defensive end probably shouldn’t return.

“I have to deal with him, and being that you have to deal with him, I grew accustomed to a misunderstood person and I got to know him a little better than a lot of people here,” Mincey began, via the Dallas Morning News. “It was tough. It was tough. You know, you got this guy, who you want to be a leader, and then you got that guy. It was just too much.”

He was then asked about the tension in the locker room Hardy created, following reports that many players soured on Hardy because he was perpetually tardy to meetings and never really punished.

“Yeah it grew. It grew. It definitely grew,” Mincey said. “I hate it happened — you talk about a team that was so close knit and tight and all of a sudden it was just different. I wouldn’t say that he’s the reason for that happening, but sometimes change, sometimes if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. You know what I mean? And sometimes with change, the team is different.

“Regardless of how great this athlete is and regardless of this and that, if they’re not mentally on the same page, you’re not going to get the same results.”

Then asked if it would be difficult to bring Hardy back after his one-year redemption tour didn’t go as planned (he offered just 6.0 sacks, and 1.5 in the last six games for his $8.8 million) and have that locker room be cohesive again, Mincey agreed.

“Yeah, it will be — I think it will be good for the younger guys, which I don’t know how they feel about him personally, I mean I haven’t spoken to them or asked,” he said. “It would be me or him, you see what I’m saying? It would be either or. It’s hard to have two type of line mentality guys in one room, so it’s tough to figure out who the younger guys are going to follow. Of course they’re going to look up to a go who’s a prolific player. But I just understand the game, and I know what it takes to win.”

Mincey has some self-preservation stake in this game, since he’s a free agent this offseason also. So positioning himself as the anti-Hardy in terms of leadership might actually be a really pragmatic play on his part.

But regardless his own situation, the more people talk about the impact Hardy had in Dallas this year, the less likely it seems the Cowboys will want to bring him back, after so much big talk early in the process.

Arian Foster is getting released, I would not mind bringing him in if we can get him for cheap.

Since Greg Hardy isn't coming back...

Absolutely most go defense...
1. Joey Bosa
2. DeForest Buckner
If both are gone...
3. Myles Jack or Jalen Ramsey

Free Agency, spend your money at Safety & DB.
1. Eric Berry
2. Rodney McLeod

Each fit perfectly next to Byron Jones who needs to be the Strong Safety, his athletic ability means he can cover in the box, and stop big TEs.

DB
1. Josh Norman
2. Jenoris Jenkins
3. Trumaine Johnson
4. Brandon Boykin
5. Casey Heyward

All ranked really well with PFF, and all at a good age where a 4-5 year deal will get us mostly productive prime years. Of course the Top 2 are way better than 3-5, but 3-4-5 still are an improvement over Carr or Claiborne.

Cut Carr & Church... And a few other guys who cost us some money, but won't play.

Ro. McClain needs to come back if Hardy isn't. Losing both would a disaster to an already weak defense.
Re-sign Dunbar who will likely be cheap due to his injury.
Hayden, Mincey, Wilbur are likely cheap rotational guys.
Bernadeau as a backup.
