How I Met Your Mother Post Series Discussion. Rustled Jimmies to the Maximum

all i know is that the writers said that parts of the series ending show has been filmed and put away for a few years now.

watch everything from season 1 on netflix a couple weeks ago. all caught up . cant wait for this show and homeland to start.

Will we ever truly know the identity of Ted's wife and/or mother of his children after all these teasers? What's left after that role or surprise is revealed.

agreed, my gripe with the show is that they are at this point(and since zoe popped up) wasting our time and with everyone's stories wrapped it's hard to watch. I mean we are literally waiting for ted to meet the mom...thats all thats left. the first 3-4 seasons were so tightly written and even when ted wasn't the focus it seemed to always be heading in the direction of him meeting his soul mate.
i know for a fact that lilly and marshall's storyline is wrapped, so for 24 episodes i have to watch them in stupid, forced scenes...probably about parenting. Barney and robin get married so they will be done and what sucks is that theyll probably waste half the season on just if they get married or not. and then theres ted....if he gets into another pointless relationship its going to be veeerrrrry stupid. and i can see that happening with all his friends now being married and well it's ted.
comparing this show to friends or even seinfield is irrelevant because himym is not on either of those shows levels to begin with. It's shows like friends.seinfield that have already had plan in motion on where they wanted their shows and characters to go, how i met your mom doesn't have that or it was poorly planned while they put out basically a filler season(zoe) trying to milk the show even more...for longer. Sure friends did that but it was definitely worth the wait...this doesn't feel like it's worth the wait. It's like when he meets the mom its GOTTA be played up to be everything and more. They either have to make it bitter sweet, get a HUGE star, and get that awesome writng i loved in the earlier seasons...they may need all 3 because i'm sure everyone watching the show expects them to create true love in a bottle with that scene...especially after they gave me a filler SEASON, the last show to do that was heroes.
Well damn. You basically said how I feel about this show.

Seasons 1-4 were GREAT, and from 5 on, it seemed like every so often there would be a gem, but there were way too many fillers.

Absolutely love this show, even though it has fallen off a bit for me.

The earlier seasons are flawless IMO.

yeah season 3 is my fave season of this show and ironically the only season i own, too many classic episodes. and i agree those seasons def had a string of gems but after season 5 it got stale. I would love to hear how some peeps feel that the show can squeeze 1 more season out. I don't see that has a possibilty unless he meets the mom in the season finale and they use a whole season on the mom

Been a fan since the beginning haven't missed a show I think they need to play this one as if it's the last. I'm not to worried about meeting the mom because their just getting the story out there.

All the other CBS comedy shows on Monday and Thurs., including Big Bang and Two and Half Men now plus Rules of Engagement are great

Love we have a thread :smokin

It does matter who the mother is, because the writers have repeatedly thrown teases into the story and nearly all of Ted's plots involve romance and finding "the one". If the show just flatout abandoned the premise and just had a regular "friends hanging out together" sitcom, I wouldn't be that upset. I like some of the mother mythology, but it's completely ruined so many of the plots for Ted because he finds some reason why she isn't the one.. and it's just the writers needing to string out this story.

this show has been a drag since the writer's strike a few years back. I hope they finish with a BANG!

Yeah I need to know who the mother is, Big J hit it on the money. I'm not really a big fan of cliffhanger endings, and if they did it for this show, where the main premise of the show is for Ted to end up meeting the mother. The whole friends hanging out thing really works for this show and its created a ton of great story-lines, but if this section of the story is not resolved then I will be extremely disappointed

I wouldn't be too happy either if they didn't let us know who the mother was

I understand its about the journey & all, but at the same time the main purpose of the show was to find out who she was. Hopefully its not a cliffhanger :nerd:

I'm only watching now to find out who the mother is, the other story lines have been stale

To me, knowing who the mother is isn't important. Let's say they reveal who the mother is, then what?

The show isn't named "Guess who your mother is", it's "how I met your mother".

The story > the person.

Like someone else said, a major premise of the show is how the mother is the "one". I mean why would the writers have Ted go through all that stuff with Robin and Victoria not being the "one" and then just abandon that whole thing with the mother. Why is she the "one"? What sets her apart from Robin, Victoria and all Ted's other relationships? If we don't know who the mother is, we can't get the answer to this.

The problem is we have suffered through all of Ted's BS about "the one". Most of us with this complaint don't WANT to care, but the writers have done a poor job with it by making Ted's plots focus all on the mother. They haven't left it alone and kept dragging it out.

This.

This is why the show shouldn't end on the moment he meets the mother. So if this might be the last season, they shouldn't drag out the damn story like they have been.

It's going to be unsatisfying for that to be the ultimate answer of the show. We see what she looks like... so what?

There needs to be more after that moment, or if they can find a way to work up to it, though that won't work since he doesn't know her yet
