They do.
In difficult economic times...people feel secure under strong authoritative figures. It is the reason so many military generals have run latin america for so long....plus US support for right wing authoritarians who keep leftists in check.

We are lucky bone spurs Trump never joined the armed forces. Imagine if he had the respect of the Army and our generals...sheesh.

Education system in this country has failed.
Every time I read this page I am reminded how ignorant republican congressmen and senators are.
If highly educated 1930s Germany was radicalized, what would make us think our uneducated country wouldnt.

We share many similarities with 1920s-early 30s Germany

Technological Advancements: German technological advancements transformed society, labor markets, and the economy. In the 1920s, Germany experienced innovations in areas such as manufacturing and communications.
Among those technologies was the popularization of the radio, the birth of mass communication and propaganda, and the lack of policy guard rails when it came to broadcasters and their duty to the truth.

Now, let's look at the cellphone, the rise of social media platforms, the inability of our legislators to comprehend this new medium and protect against the potential for mis/disinformation.

We're not in good shape here.

I thought Girl Thats Jules Girl Thats Jules would find this funny too...

Fascism is the violence of the periphery being unleashed on the core. In this case quite literally, the IDF and NYPD have close relations.

Are you calling Israel an extension of the US empire? They're not exactly jumping when Biden says "jump." In fact, they're sitting down and asking us what we're going to do about it. They ****ed up our normalization process with Iran (the nuclear deal) and killed our citizens without triggering diplomatic incidents.
That's not the behavior of a vassal state.

Regarding the Columbia protests:

I really liked this comment because it encapsulates why protest movements need strong leadership. Liberation movements get co-opted ALL the time, and it's very important be able to close ranks and self-police BEFORE the police and fact spinners show up. It is just as important to understand the limits of free speech and the consequences of going beyond what's allowed during a protest.

People want to emulate the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements without realizing that they were extremely well disciplined movements whose members were aware of the lines of no-return and were coached on how not to cross them.

A pair of US senators have discovered that eight automakers will give up users' location data to police without requiring a court-issued warrant.

Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) publicized the finding in a Tuesday letter that urges the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the car makers: BMW, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

The senators allege the companies "deceptively pledged that they would insist on warrants or other court orders before turning over location data" from customers to the police. In 2014, the auto industry pledged to uphold privacy principles, which included only handing over such sensitive location data to law enforcement when a warrant or court-issued order was provided.

However, an investigation from Wyden and Markey finds that only six car companies—Ford, GM, Honda, Stellantis, Tesla, and (to a lesser extent) Hyundai— require police to submit a warrant when requesting users' location data. Of the six, Tesla is the only one with a "policy of telling customers about legal demands, unless the company has received a judicial gag order."
