***Official Political Discussion Thread***

This has been a tactic of the far right from the jump:

Painting being college educated makes you out of touch with the real world.

If every poor person got a decent (and hopefully cheap) college education, the system of white supremacy, and the grip the reationary right has on the GOP, would be in danger.

While it would not be universal, the poor whites would learn to reason better, think critically, learn about history, have their views challenged, get washed in a debate, learn to spot bad statistics, question things more, and scariest of all to conservatives..............they would interact with minorities that don't fit the stereotypes that conservatives use to scare poor whites.

Jose is not coming to steal your job, he is the dude in your frat

Jamal is not trying to rob you, he is your studying group for Calc 2

Ahmad is not trying to blow you up, you play basketball with him on Tuesday nights

Tanisha and Maria aren't young single mothers leeching off the system, they are just two chicks in your group for Sociology class.

Poor young white kids would expand their world view, become more empathetic toward minorities, more progressive, and then..... boom......they will be hip to the BS conservatives been feeding them

So conservative elites try their best to weaken the higher education system, and tell poor people that they are better off without it. All the while they are sending their children of to expensive summer camps, and cutting huge checks in hopes their kids get into Harvard.

-Problem is, Trump stole this uneducated gullible base right from under the GOP establishment in the primaries. And these folk have no idea the extent they have been lied too.

But yeah, they don't need a fancy degree or useless facts, Trump tells them their white identity is enough, and he is going to give them back their country because it belongs to them. Not some educated black man and the minorities he keeps telling you to practice empathy towards.

Looks like someone needs to be "educated" on how the site works.

And digging up a quote of mine from over a week ago. I wonder whose new SN this is.

Goal post move.

And even if I answer this question, you'll still be wrong in defending the formulation and execution of this immigration ban. Why bother?

But that's not what the debate was. Answer the question. Because you seem to only be upset that the move affects Green card holders. So please clarify your stance.

My stance was clear. Go back and read what I posted about Obama's actions being different from Trump's.

Education is not always the answer, in fact it is often not the answer. Many people are just not suited for higher education, and education does not always equal a better life.

There are more people working at an older age with their brain than there are working with their muscles.

In addition, a broad education gives perspective, which is sorely lacking in American society as evidenced by the circus that is unfolding before our eyes.

Though this is a sure waste of time, education was listed as a primary factor in some of the small towns losing out potential manufacturing jobs.

yup. people are missing the whole point and this past year has made it abundantly clear why it's important.

4-year universities are not so you can pick up a trade. it's to learn how to think, how to analyze data, how to make logical arguments and judge evidence, to go from being a child to an adult.

obviously not enough people are realizing this goal. whether it's the fault on universities or the students themselves or if it's a leftover from poor parenting or high school, i don't know. but it's clear more than ever, if we are to have a modern democracy and a productive populace, that we need higher education.

or we can just keep bringing in immigrants who do have an appreciation and understanding for these things. but we would probably need to make them citizens more quickly and find ways to disenfranchise da deplorables.

From every nearly every major angle, the left is more right about education.

-The left wants to make higher education of all kinds (community college, vocation school, 4 year university degrees) to be more affordable

-The left realizes not everyone is suited or needs to have a 4 year university degree. They advocate vocational schools too

-The left are the ones that believe in job retraining to help people gain human capital.

-And the left are the the ones that believe in quality public k-12 schools .

-Not only that, it is the left that advocate for programs that help unskilled workers.

I can go into the benefits of higher education, but it would be futile given dudes post, I already know what he is about. The fact still remains, it is benefit to society and the economy to have a well trained and educated population.

Only one side seems to be voicing their support for this, and it damb sure not the right.

All those down south and middle of nowhere trump supporters want with education is to be able to graduate high school and get a 100k job  ...BUT only if it benefits them and not the minorities

The right way to do it is low cost education for everybody and solid trade skills programs for the ppl that know exactly what they wanna do or don't desire college classes ...But alotta systems in America sucks and seem to go out of the way to avoid simple n effective fixes cuz of hate n fear

This and a national standard that every k-12 grad should meet would improve education here.
