A lot of people crash (and die) on the Southern State Parkway. Everyone knows this. Especially West Indian people from Richmond Hill/Ozone Park, which has a strong race/car culture in the area. I know of at least 4 people, friend's of friends who have died on the Southern State because they want to race or go at incredible speeds very late at night and lose complete control of the car.

RIP.

I know a few of you around the way remember this.

This is an example of how the whole West Indian Richmond Hill/Ozone Park Car culture is.

Yup that's my hood man. It's just goes to show where the youth's priorities are at. I mean it's a combination of things....drinking rum, smoking weed, fast cars.

It's always sad to see all the old uncles outside a funeral home when you pass by one. The same funeral home in the first vid is where they had my cousin's viewing but he was older and died of an aneurism.

And what's crazy is if it's a hindu funeral it's the same as a hindu wedding....somebody always has a trunk full of bacardi, jack black, and coke. As far as west-indian hindu's are concerned and that's def. a west-indian cultural thing.

****....99% of our soca/chutney songs are about drinking rum.

for Queens, NY heads, back in the day, street racing was bigger in nyc. late nights was when **** used to pop off.

around my way, francis lewis blvd around st francis prep high school was major street racing at night.

also know of racing that used to pop off on the Interboro aka Jackie Robinson parkway.

once in a while there will be some fools who race and someone dies..the block stays hot for the following week with murdered out nypd interceptors, picking people off for 3 miles over the limit :smh:

those days are long gone tho...

Peter Anthony, Chris Khan, Neil Rajaba and Darian Ramnarine — all of them 18, three of them popular graduates of Richmond Hill High School — were killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene.
I mean RIP and everything, but who the hell wrote this ****? I mean......which dead kid you saying isn't the popular one?

From the way I interpreted, one of them either went to a different school or didnt graduate

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Queens teenager accused of speeding when he crashed on Long Island and killed four friends was charged on Friday.

Joseph Beer, 17, was handcuffed and escorted to court six weeks after surrendering to police after crashing his car on the Southern State Parkway. He is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.

Beer’s parents, Patricia and Aaditia, sobbed quietly on Friday, but said nothing. They, too, could face some jail time.

1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa Reports

The indictment was unsealed by a grand jury, charging that the Queens teenager was impaired by marijuana and took his friends on a high-speed Columbus Day joyride in his new, high-performance Subaru Impreza.

Beer climbed in behind the wheel illegally having only a learner’s permit and by the time he reached the curve at Exit 17, the accelerator was floored, allegedly reaching speeds of 110 mph.

It is alleged the sports coupe slammed into trees and split in half, ejecting all five teenagers. Beer’s four passengers were killed instantly.

Christopher Khan, Neal Rajaba, Darian Ramnarine, Peter Kanhai  were all Queens, college-bound boyhood friends who knew each other from Richmond Hill High School.

Beer attended Vaughn College of Aeronautics near LaGuardia Airport.

“He is very, very distraught about the death of his four very close friends,” defense attorney Todd Greenberg said. “This is an accident. All accidents do not mean or result in criminal acts.”

The emotional funerals were heart wrenching for the close-knit communities. The young victims were bright, energetic and talented.

The district attorney asked for $500,000 bond, but the judge raised it to $2 million due to the seriousness of multiple felony charges.

“He was driving a souped-up 305-horsepower sports car at more than twice the legal speed limit while he was high on marijuana,” Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said.

And now, Rice said Beer’s parents face criminal accountability, possibly 15 days in jail and a fine of $150, for knowingly allowing their son to drive without a license.

Beer’s attorney requested his client be placed in the jail’s protective custody wing and receive a medical evaluation.

this is the ******g problem with our culture.

what do we gain from throwing this kid in jail for years??

you think losing his 4 friends wasn't enough. haven't this **** on his conscience.

he's 17 years old. an idiot with a lot of maturing to do. am i angry at him, hell yeah. do i think he deserves jail time, hell yeah.

but it seems we just want to toss people and forget them, why not educate others. you're not scaring anyone with this jail sentence because in the head of every other teen doing this same stupid **** "it wont happen to me"

Seriously. How will him being in jail help? Dude lost his friends and then you put him in jail and you basically take away his future.

I agree with that. 17 years old, he's gonna end up spending the start of his adult life in jail. Jail is not gonna rehabilitate him it's gonna end up turning him into a career criminal. He does need to be penalized but charging him with homicide isn't the way to go.

I just don't know what to say. Theres just to many immature drivers these days. I see teenagers drive down my road going 80 to a 100 miles per hour when the speed limit is 45.

He is not a murderer. Stop it. Did he intend to kill his friends? Did he flee the scene? You obviously dont know what the **** you're talking about

No, by definition, he's not a murderer. However, his negligence caused multiple deaths, which is considered manslaughter - which does deserve jail time.

if he was black i bet y'all would say he deserves to go to jail for a long time tho...............

Don't bring that race crap in here brah.

we're only a couple shades off from black ourselves. I got cousins that are probably blacker than you.

Anywho....does this kid deserve jail time? Yes imho....I don't know how long the jail sentence he will be serving will be but this was just pure negligence and I'm surprised he was only caught with mj in the system. In our culture we drink hard and I really thought it was alcohol in the system which it usually is.

The reason i'm saying he deserves some type of penalty is to serve as a reminder to the rest of the youth in Queens. If they had just given him a slap on the wrist their would be no way parents would use this as an example to reinforce to their children to use caution when driving and just basically stop showing off.

West Indian culture is a very showy imho. I love my culture but we can be so smart until we become over-smart and thats when we shoot ourselves in the foot.

I'm sad about this whole situation....all guys were college bound and probably intelligent in school but all that flies out the window when you don't have common sense and know your limits.

I feel bad for this kid but I feel their needs to be one or two big situations to happen for it to be felt by the community.

In the south ozone/richmond hill area there is a stop light every 1-2 blocks on the avenues just because of the speeding that takes place. It wasn't even like this in the 90's.

Where you from son? I mean heritage wise....

But I was hoping to see this thread because I heard of what the kid was getting.

A part of me feels remorseful for him. Maybe I shouldn't be. But I am.
Dude is 17 all of his friends died and he only got a few bruises. Like what kind of luck is that? I think he has some sort of purpose on this planet than to rot away in prison. Like who survives that?

Its a really difficult situation. I know the parents have a difficult thing on their hands. I'm sure the other parents are furious at them for getting their unlicensed kid a car like that. I think they deserve some more time or some sort of punishment because without their mindless decision this wouldn't have happened.

Prayers go out to all the kids and their families. This story still sickens me

Its a sad event that happen but whats sadder is that these types of accidents are a recurring theme that happens more than it should.
I see alot of NTers taking the stance of criminally charging the 17yr old driver but I'm going to toss out awhole nother suggestion where I think the problem lies; How about the parents get criminally charged for that accident that took the lives of those three young men because clearly they were neglectful in their thinking, actions and parenting when it comes to their 17yr old son who was allowed to receive a car as a gift, allowed to operate that car with only a NewYork state drivers permit and allowed to roam in that car with three friends with no adult supervision,what-so-ever.
I beleive that they are just as much to blame for that accident as their son is,if it wasn't for their neglect that accident may not have happened, espacially if they would have followed the law that is set in stone when it comes to teenagers and driving.Thats why we have checks and balances, and yes we ignore them and do as we as please but when something go wrong,we have to bite that bullet as they say.

Teenager's all want to be cool but theres a price that has to be paid to be cool, whether you live in the ghetto, the suburbs or a gated community.Being cool can be deadly to a teenager, espacially the one's who don't have proper guidance and some restraints. The cases of coolness very, for some its urban-fashion,gold-chains,flashy things in an area where unemployment is high and the crime rate is higher. For others coolness is messured by gifts that their parents can afford to give them, whether they actually need them or not, they recieve them and again with no guidance, proper supervision and some restraints;BEING COOL CAN BE DEADLY.This this article proves that.
