H.S. kid goes rally car happy wit his friends in his new impreza, loses control, all die sans driver

i just read an article today about this story. hes facing 25 years and his parents are also getting arrested and charged for letting their son use the car knowing he only had a learners permit

Good to hear that his parents are facing charges, because theres no way that they didn't know that he shouldn't be behind the wheel of an auto-mobile.

This reminds me of Hulk Hogans son,who could legally drive but the fact that he was driving such a car that was ment for a track and not a highway for illegal drag racing.Another example of just because you want, can afford something doesn't mean you need it.

He lost control in an Impreza? That's almost impossible, he had to be texting and driving too. No way.

sometimes bad things happen. yeah a lot of things could have happened differently and prevented but why pass the blame?

it's his parents fault?

its marijuanas fault?

its the highways fault?

like c'mon.

A horrible accident happened by irresponsible actions from a teen.

That said that highway DOES need work

No. He was a teenager with no prior driving experience that was also under the influence of marijuana driving on a very dangerous section of the highway.

Driver Survives, and has to carry his friends death on his shoulders... I could never live that down or show my face...

this is the ******g problem with our culture.
what do we gain from throwing this kid in jail for years??
you think losing his 4 friends wasn't enough. haven't this **** on his conscience.
he's 17 years old. an idiot with a lot of maturing to do. am i angry at him, hell yeah. do i think he deserves jail time, hell yeah.
but it seems we just want to toss people and forget them, why not educate others. you're not scaring anyone with this jail sentence because in the head of every other teen doing this same stupid **** "it wont happen to me"

He is smart, graduacted early. he is well educated enough. teems should stop being stupid and its not going to happen if they just keep slapping their wrist. There parents do enough of that

The driver will probably do 8-10 years. usually in traffic accidents first time offender, family hire big time lawyer, its about 2 years per death

Don't bring that race crap in here brah.
we're only a couple shades off from black ourselves. I got cousins that are probably blacker than you.
Anywho....does this kid deserve jail time? Yes imho....I don't know how long the jail sentence he will be serving will be but this was just pure negligence and I'm surprised he was only caught with mj in the system. In our culture we drink hard and I really thought it was alcohol in the system which it usually is.
The reason i'm saying he deserves some type of penalty is to serve as a reminder to the rest of the youth in Queens. If they had just given him a slap on the wrist their would be no way parents would use this as an example to reinforce to their children to use caution when driving and just basically stop showing off.
West Indian culture is a very showy imho. I love my culture but we can be so smart until we become over-smart and thats when we shoot ourselves in the foot.
I'm sad about this whole situation....all guys were college bound and probably intelligent in school but all that flies out the window when you don't have common sense and know your limits.
I feel bad for this kid but I feel their needs to be one or two big situations to happen for it to be felt by the community.
In the south ozone/richmond hill area there is a stop light every 1-2 blocks on the avenues just because of the speeding that takes place. It wasn't even like this in the 90's.

Where you from son? I mean heritage wise....

But I was hoping to see this thread because I heard of what the kid was getting.

A part of me feels remorseful for him. Maybe I shouldn't be. But I am.
Dude is 17 all of his friends died and he only got a few bruises. Like what kind of luck is that? I think he has some sort of purpose on this planet than to rot away in prison. Like who survives that?

Its a really difficult situation. I know the parents have a difficult thing on their hands. I'm sure the other parents are furious at them for getting their unlicensed kid a car like that. I think they deserve some more time or some sort of punishment because without their mindless decision this wouldn't have happened.

Prayers go out to all the kids and their families. This story still sickens me

My heritage is guyanese by way of India...those hundred years ago when the british were bringing "indentured servants" from India the same time they were bringing slaves from Africa and that's how we have most of the west-indian community.

But I have no doubt that the driver has been battling demons from this accident since it happened. I just came back to Queens when I saw this and my mom told me that the kid tried to hang himself already but his family stopped had to cut him down.
JOSEPH BEER SENTENCED IN 2012 LONG ISLAND WRECK THAT KILLED 4 TEENAGERS
Tuesday, August 26, 2014

MINEOLA, NY (WABC) --
The Queens teenager who smashed his car into a tree, killing four of his friends, was sentenced Tuesday to 5 to 15 years in prison.

Joseph Beer is 19 now, but was 17 in October 2012 when he wrecked his car on the Southern State Parkway. He pleaded guilty in July to aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, admitting he had smoked marijuana and was speeding.

Beer asked for youthful offender status, which could have meant four years in jail, but the judge ruled against it.

"I stand here to receive justice for the crimes I have committed. I, too, hate myself for what I've done," he told the judge on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Beer has shown complete and utter lack of remorse.

But Beer's attorney, Todd Greenberg, said that isn't the case. "He's had remorse since day one. He loved these young men," said Greenberg.

A jury in June convicted Beer on manslaughter, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, but was deadlocked on an aggravated vehicular homicide charge. A month later, Beer pleaded guilty, saying he wanted to spare the families of the victims -- 17-year-old Neal Rajapa, 18-year-old Darian Ramnarine, 18-year-old Peter Kanhai and 18-year-old Christopher Kahn -- the ordeal of a second trial.

"Joseph Beer purposely smoked marijuana with the intent of driving and caused the deaths of the passengers who trusted him to get them home safely," District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement. "This sentence should be a clear message to everyone that if you are old enough to drive, you must be prepared to face the consequences of violent criminal behavior behind the wheel."

All of Beer's passengers were thrown from the car and killed in the crash. Beer, who only possessed a learner's permit, suffered minor injuries. Two separate blood tests revealed the marijuana use.

"This tragedy people can learn from it there are other people out there who are thinking just like joseph was and you will get caught," said Bryant Barr, one of the victim's stepfather.

Sharon Rajapa, Neal Rajapa's mother, said her life has not been the same. "As the days go by I'm trying so hard to cope. I never know what a bullet feels like, but on October 8th, I knew when a bullet hit my heart," she said. "But I forgive Joseph because I have to."

Man I thought Ninjahood was back :smh:

Kid should've got an even 20. Shame this part of the ordeal didn't get more publicity. These news cycles don't do these stories justice.

Thanks for posting an update
No problem.

I saw another report that said that Beer's lawyer tried to argue that he's smoked so much weed in his life that the amount he smoked that night had no effect on him. What a scum bag.

Probably the best defense he could've came up with given the circumstance other than straight up lying about how the crash went down.

That punishment isn't fair at all.

He's eligible for parole in 3 years, he could be a free man at 22 after being responsible for claiming 4 lives.

that's crazy but that is what long money and good lawyer get you

now he probably got a light sentence because the family didn't press the issue or still got love for him

or
the family can be at every parole heating to get his parole denied and make him flattens out on 15 years

but my god dude was doing 110mph and high he should had gotten more time

a similar person in Michigan did the same thing but he got 2 years. he was jock and killed 3 white passengers but the family forgave him
