Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

Not only has depth been a serious problem this season, it's been previous seasons.

Year-by-year, the Giants cannot continue to count on Gregor Blanco as a 4th OF. If anything, he's a 5th OF for defensive replacement or needing to steal a bag. Other than that, he's not an everyday player.

dland24 dland24 , I knew someone addressed this issue before, just wasn't sure who.

I know I brought this up....but here was my issue.

Going into the season, we had a lineup that, if healthy, was a pretty good lineup. But, and it is a huge but, said lineup was built with players who dont stay healthy.

PAGAN: a full time starter for 5 seasons. He has played a full season in two of those yesrs.
SCUTARO: injured going into spring trainin...coupled with the fact that he is 38 years old.
PABLO: missed almost a third of a season in two of the last three seasons
MORSE: played a full season in one of the last four seasons. 102 games being the high of the 3 seasons he didnt complete.

That is 50% of our starting lineup being players who constantly miss large chunks of the season. Granted, Pablo has stayed healthy all season. But to assume that all of those guys would stay healthy is just arrogant and stupid. We should have had Major League caliber backups on our bench. Instead, we had Hicks, Blanco, Arias, Ehire and a bunch of other trash.

If you are going to build your team with injury prone, albeit talented, players, you better damn well plan for worst case scenarios. And Sabean once again failed to address this.

Gross! Lol

Great win tonight. God it would be so amazing to steal the division in the last week of the season.

Who was that Strickland kid. Our closer of the future ?

98 paint, filth

I have heard quite a few broadcasters/reporters say that Strickland should make the postseason roster overLincecum. Greg Pappa, Henry Schulman and a few others are on board. I support that idea too.

Strickland has that demeanor on that mound like he doesnt give a ****. here is my heater, try and hit it. love it!

Last night was the first time I got to see Strickland pitch and I was impressed. Every bullpen needs a guy that can just flat out throw it by the hitter. I think he has a bright future here.

Strickland wow and he is only 25!

Sabeans a Genius he baited everyone with Heath Hembree while stashing this guy .

^

i don't understand people's sentiments about that

to me it seems the biggest OF problem lies in LF not CF

Just my opinion, but the biggest problem with the team is the depth, in general.

We just point at the Pagan and Blanco situation as an example.

The depth is just terrible. We knew that Scutaro was going to be out, but the right moves to address it were never made. It wasn't until Panik came up, when the 2B situation stabilized.
