arite. gonna sound like a noob but i need to be caught up to speed because im amped for the new movie.

ive been reading this thread and not to sound naive but how do you guys know this much about star wars considering there was only 6 movies and a kids cartoon.

i know there are novels but i keep hearing they are not cannon which to my understanding means they really dont matter technically with the movies given.

ive seen all the movies. i just recently rewatched them from 1-6.

i started the clone wars a while ago so im going restart that at some point soon.

what i want to know is... what should i watch/read so i can grasp the new movie coming out and get even subtle easter egg hints possibly.

basically whats my best route to get caught up.

appreciate any input.

Well, to be fair, the Novels/Comics have been run for a couple decades now, so for someone like myself that’s been following along all this time, it’s easy to have stored all this useless info.

But, as you said, they have rendered much of that non cannon now. So in a sense, it won’t help much, but, we also know that there will be “some” small details they will pull from the EU. What those are, at this time, I can’t be sure. Once the movie comes out, we will be able to spot a few things here or there and likely be able to list them out. That’s how it was for the prequels. There were a few worlds/characters in the prequels that came from the novels and those were identified pretty quick. I assume this will be similar.

As for what to read/follow for this new movie, they have new books/comics coming out now, that are in the canon of the story, and those will help tag along with the films and cartoon series as well. Tarkin. A New Dawn. Lords of the Sith. And Heir to the Jedi are the first 4 books that are coming out. Read those, and you should gain some info in preparation for the new film(s)

In terms of learning enough to recognize all the potential Easter Eggs that might be hidden within the film, well, that would take reading close to 100 non canon novels, and countless comic books, which I assume you don’t want to attempt doing in just over 7 months. Nor do I blame you.

appreciate all the responses guys.

my story is that growing up i wasnt really into star wars. im 27 so its prime was before my time. as a matter of fact majority of my star wars knowledge (the little of it) came from watching muppet babies lol which always referenced it.

i got into it a little bit more with the video games like shadows of the empire (dash rendar lol) for n64 and quite a bit more when the prequels came out, i bought all the figures and such (mace windu and yoda were a B to find).

I was a HUGE fan of knights of the old republic, but not really sure where that fits in my timeline.

not until the last couple of years did i really sit down and watch the original films in their entirety. ive seen them but never sat down and focused on them. going to catch a lot of heat for this but they are better than the prequals but i personally dont think they warrant all the praise they get, maybe because i missed the hot/hype moment of it in life.

basically my fandom for star wars has grown in increments through my life, i know basic stuff about the series but not like you guys are spewing. thats why i asked lol. cant wait for the film though and its fun to read this thread when im bored at work like right now and pick up little things/theories here and there so thanks.

Killing off Maul was such a big mistake :smh: he's such an iconic looking character.

Even Lucas admitted it was a mistake which is why he brought him back in Clone Wars...
