The Tesla Motors Appreciation Thread

they're not banning the vehicle, just the way TSLA is trying to change the way vehicles are sold. they'd be doing the same thing if it was a gas car. these states just want to keep the middle man employed.

Yep.

exactly...the car salesman union lobby is strong in michigan

Across the US/North America actually... Michigan is just the latest state. Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Maryland and Jersey all ready banned them.

Franchise and car dealer laws are already on the books preventing Tesla's direct sales model... states are just modifying them to close loopholes.

So why did said "government" give Tesla so much money?

Its a loan, meaning it has to be paid back.
It stimulates the economy.
It provides a sense of progress, that we are doing what is best.
So, when anyone says, what happen to electic cars? They can say, we gave them over 400 mill to create and develop the tech...
These the same folks who can create the laws that make it hard for the business to grow tho...

I dunno maybe we are really trying to decrease oil dependency.
Or maybe as much as things change, the more they stay the same.

All I know is i want one of them joints.

it's politics man. all one big game.. now the gov blackmail these fools so certain individuals can pocket money and get their loan money back plus, now you got the big 3 oil companies bribing the gov. they pocketing both ways

and I think it was the feds that gave then the money from a grant or the higher big wig gov not state. They got to act like they want electric cars and helping companies do so because Obama is putting that money out there

Nah be, my fam got a place in Sag Harbor. Teslas were all over the Hamptons this summer. I could see the yambs were gushing over them.

They look nice, and they know they come with a high price tag

That's they needed to know

Im taking the wait and see approach. Given the size of the batteries the ElectroMagnetic Radiation must be off the charts.
If people say cell phones and microwaves cause cancer then what does that mean for a Tesla with a battery strong enough to power a 2 ton car over 100mph. We all know the battery making process (lithium) is hazardous for those making them but the verdict is still out on how the radiation emitted from the electric motor is hazardous to the driver and passengers. This is not just a tesla issue its an electric car issue.

The main reason Tesla is being blocked my some state governments has nothing to do with oil though.

Tesla won't cut dealers into the sales process. They want to own all showrooms and sell directly to customers.

Tesla has the support of a lot of people within the government. And lets be honest most consumers where cold towards electric cars too.

Isn't that how it should be? Dealers and dealerships are so scummy. Esp, with ones that work on commission and try to hustle, nickle and dime, and add something in to your contract at the very end.

I've heard there's actually a new approach with car companies. Where they have a more "Apple" kind of approach. The salesmen are salaried and more like customer reps, that will answer questions about their models and show the different options. They're not there to screw you over.

Here's the article: http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304672404579182061400578466

Tesla plans to unveil its $35,000 Model 3 in March 2016
Production will ramp up in "late 2017"

Tesla is aiming to reveal the Model 3, its answer to BMW's 3-series, in March 2016. CEO Elon Musk announced the target date during today's call with Tesla investors. "We are hoping to show the Model 3 in March of next year," he said. Musk emphasized that the date is tentative and plans could change in the months ahead. But right now, that's the goal. Production of the Model 3, which will be able to drive 200 miles on a single charge, would start in mid or late 2017. "Late 2017 is probably more realistic," Musk added. It's been rumored that Tesla is targeting a price around $35,000.

The Model 3 is set to become Tesla's mainstream vehicle, with the Model S and Model X retaining their higher price points, superior range, and more luxurious features. The Model 3, which will be 20 percent smaller than the Model S, is a crucial project for the company as it looks to make its own electric vehicles more affordable and attainable for a much larger audience of car shoppers.

But first comes the Model X, which has been in production for some time and is finally nearing availability. Musk said that the company will begin accepting online customization orders in July. "This is really a great car. I mean, because it has such a low center of mass, it handles like a sports car even though it's an SUV," Musk said. "The performance is just surreal. Nothing else is comparable." Tesla had a decent first quarter, posting a smaller net loss than Wall Street had expected and announcing 10,045 Model S deliveries.

IMO... Tesla really needs a coupe in the lineup... Just something based off the sedan(s)... Doesn't have to be extreme or radical... But I belive there's a good amount of people who only want a coupe, and immediately dismiss Tesla because if that...

They'll probably add that next or last, sedans and suv's are still the big seller in the US.

I'm really curious about the smaller $35k Tesla though.

Yeah I'm wishing they let out more details regarding the 35k Tesla.
