Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | A Hideo Kojima Game

Play every game at least two times, then you will understand 25% of what is going on.
And you'll still love them

This. The games are great.

Didn't realize the release date was this close. Still gotta cop a ps4 and play Arkham Knight.

Bought a ps3 back then when MGS 4 released, and only bought 3 other games. I just use it now for netflix and blu rays.

Just going to buy TPP for ps3, see no real need to get a ps4 if a bump in graphics is the only perk.

Can someone be kind and post what is supposed to be known story-wise before MGS 5 releases?
MGS4 is the only game i have played from the series back in 2008 & I'm not sure if i remember what happened in that one. It's been almost 7 years.

Just want to make sure when I pick up the controller next week and play this, I'm fully prepared to understand whats going on since this is the final game.

Thanks.

Short version

-Snake is sent to russia
-mission was to recuse a scientist (he created the first metal gear, the shagohod)
-after finding him he gets betrayed by his mentor (her name is the boss. She defects to the Soviet Union)
-she throws snake off a bridge
-he comes back a little while later with a new mission to destroy the shagohod and kill the boss
-he completes his mission and is now given the codename big boss
-zero, snakes commanding officer, along with ocelot, Eva (big mama in mgs4),sigint (Darpa chief from mgs), and paramedic (the one that experimented on gray fox in mgs) created the patriots
-snake fell into a coma after a battle and zero took some of snakes DNA to clone him. Zero saw snake as a messiah type figure and wouldn't allow snake to just die like that
-snake awakes from his coma years later and leaves the group
-in MG peace Walker there was a machine created with the boss' personality in it, it was called peace walker
-it was going to be used as a nuclear war deterrent
-snake created his own mercenary group called msf during this time
-one of his soldiers was actually a spy and worked for zero and stole metal gear zeke that msf had
-mother base, the home base of msf, was destroyed
-the spy name was Paz. If you've seen the trailer she was the one with the bomb in her stomach

But thats a good amount of stuff

Yeah you might be able to skip MGS4 because chronologically it takes place at the end of the series, but you CANNOT skip MGS3 and Peace Walker because Phantom Pain is a direct sequel to Ground Zeroes which is a direct sequel to Peace Walker which is a direct sequel to Portable Ops which is a direct sequel to MGS3.

And all of these games, including Phantom Pain, are prequels that take place before the "main" story of MGS. So you have to get the plot of at least two prequels in your system before you touch this.

I never finished Peace Walker because I had it for PS3 and the PSP structured controls bugged me, but I know the plot and I've beaten MGS3 and Ground Zeroes

You can skip 4 and be fine. I'll break it down right now; nanomachines, nanomachines, nanomachines, nanomachines, and nanomachines

*nanomachines, animal metaphors, philosophical horse****, AI, nanomachines, war economy, more animal metaphors, AI.

Still a fantastic game :pimp:

Great game completely watered down by hours, and I do mean HOURS, of of cutscenes. Overall, it's a play once and let it be type game. Completely different than the last 3 before it.

Only thing that pissed me off about MGS4.

It felt like i was watching cutscenes more than playing the game.

The story is what killed it for me overall. It was just way too much and over the top, even by metal gear standards. A huge convoluted mess of GW and nanomachines, with a pinch of nonsensical side stories and love triangles

In regards to MGS IV, one of the best games i've played,
that old skeleton looking thing was Solidus right?  The one who burned at the end of Act 3? I forgot

Yass

Solidus got the raw deal man... after Raiden "murked" him they kept him alive and used his organs and skin (along with Liquids) to transplant onto burned Big Boss (From MG2) so he could live again. Then they kept the skinned Solidus alive as the key to accessing the AI. :smh:

This is why MGS3 was my favorite. Straightforward and believable plot even with the supernatural elements. MGS was pretty well balanced too, but it's just painful to play these days with those graphics

MGS2 and 4 are good games but the stories were very flawed. The overall experiences are good, so that's why I replay them once every few years, but I skip through 75% of the codecs and cutscenes other than the ones essential to the plot.

@$!@ watching Sunny make omeletes, Otacon's love life, etc
