Official Scam/Fraud Thread

Fellas... This thread is for help/awareness for the Niketalk community. Not eBay. Lets keep it that way please.

Now if you find a NTer scamming/frauding on eBay, and you have proof to back up your accusation please post the info and it will be handled accordingly.

during the release fiasco, he posted in the XI thread that he had a size 9.5 in his cart for FNL and would help any NTer out.
i couldnt get FNL to work so i PMd looking for his assistance. we agreed that id send him the money ( $230, to cover both shipping fees) through paypal and he'd have the shoes mailed to him. Once he received said shoes from FNL, he would then ship to me. order was placed on 22nd. got conforimatin a few days later(not sure on exact day). last time i heard from him was on 12-26. he said the shoes were expected at his house on 1-3-12, and he would ship them to me afterwards. well he hasn't logged on to his NT account since 12-29-12. and has ignored all emails ive sent him.

filed a claim with my bank(paid with my debit) they said i will be credited the $230 tomorrow morning. :smokin
hope this helps

back on the hunt for some XIs :nerd:

Edit
That was quick, just checked my account balance, the $230 has already been refunded :smokin
Thanks again, bigj505, for the heads up. I thought all hope was lost cause I sent the payment as gift.

Update

I just got a letter from bank saying I was denied the claim and the 230 I was credited will be reversed. :x

Scammer gets the W smh

Edit. I lost my dispute. The 230 I was credited back will be reversed on the 21st. Scammer gets the W.

One of the reasons why buy/sell is not allowed outside of the buy/sell forums...

I'm posting this in here to help with Chargeback awareness.

I have no clue how to avoid a chargeback scam via paypal. None whatsoever.

I sold a pair of shoes to a member (whom Ill disclose once I finish my investigation) on January 7th. I got a paypal email on the 21st of February stating the buyer has filed a chargeback due to an unauthorized transaction.

I sent the shoes USPS Priority mail 1 day after receiving payment (Jan 8th) and used signature confirmation. I also sent him an invoice so I thought I had my grounds covered.

Paypal is reviewing things now but I dont look at it as a win.

The buyer also purchased a pair of shoes from me 1 week later which should weaken his unauthorized transaction stance but i dont know.

Wow. Good luck with that J. It's risky selling to random people these days.

Was the address confirmed? If so, PayPal should side with you. If not... Might not be a good outcome for you.

it has happened to me 3 x  but it was sold thru ebay....customer filed for chargeback but my delivery conf. stated it was delivered so my funds were released instatly over the phone   3x

Thanks guys.
I am having my fiance call paypal today since its actually her account.

To add more salt to the wound, I actually sold dude 2 pairs of shoes. 1 one week. another the next... almost 7 days later.

There was a chargeback this morning for the 2nd pair. Cant say I didnt expect it.

Dubs - yea..... might be unfavorable for me. i never thought that someone could do a chargeback months later.

Edit - Apparently, I did everything right according to paypal. The outcome will be a different story.

What are the transaction eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for Seller Protection, you'll need to meet each of the following requirements:
1.You must send the item to the shipping address on the Transaction Details page.
2.You must respond to PayPal's requests for documentation and other information in a timely manner.
3.The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.
(Example: a DVD is eligible but an MP3 file is not)
4.Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal account, must be in the United States.
5.We recommend that you ship the item within 7 days of receipt of payment. Or, if the payment is for pre-ordered or made-to-order goods, it must be shipped within the timeframe specified in your item listing.

Note: Item not received buyer claims filed directly with eBay are not covered under PayPal Seller Protection. Check out eBay Buyer Protection for more information.

Read the PayPal User Agreement for our complete terms of coverage.

Sellers get sig confirm on everything and SAVE the receipt, only sell with an invoice to confirmed addresses and be sure to send the item within 7 days of payment and update the invoice with tracking info. You should win any dispute according to PayPal rules. I had a guy do a charge back from the cc company and I had all tracking info and papers...I won through PayPal so I got to keep the money he paid me and since he got the money back from the cc company he sent me back the items which I sold again. Do it right!

Sent PayPal $260. He credited back saying that there was something weird going on with someone else's payment that he receive at the same time. He then preferred to have my money sent thru money gram or western union and told me I'd have his word that he'd ship the shoes and will provide references as well as post on NT..I western uniond the money while we communicated back and forth via text. I asked him once he received the money, text me the shipping # and he agreed. So I received the text saying he got the money but from then on, haven't head from him. His reviews and seller feedback seems good which gave me reason to believe I really did have his word after I had wire him the money. I don't know what else to do except learn from this..$260+ gone

3 things:
1. This honestly does not belong in here. It clearly states in the 1st post that this is for non-classified listing issues. You needed to leave feedback and contact an administrator/moderator
2. You should have looked at his feedback. Apparently, he had issues with someone else.
3. He has been banned.

I'll try to keep this short..

I sold a guy a pair of used Lebron Cannons through Paypal, account was confirmed and everything. Shipped them through USPS with Tracking + Insurance.

They arrive a week later. He opens a case saying he received an empty box. Provides no evidence except saying "My wife received the package today and when it was opened nothing was in it. Please explain."

I instantly call Paypal, wait on the line for 30 minutes, explain that I have a perfect track record with Paypal and Ebay, blah blah blah, ask what I can do to protect myself. The rep assures me it will come out in my favor and tells me to provide the USPS receipt with the weight of the package on it and I should be fine.

I upload the receipt, explain in the description that an empty box doesn't weight over 4 LBS and chill out thinking it will be fine.

Wrong.

Case closed today. Ruled in favor of scammer.

So I call back today going off, asking how they can explain the package being empty but it weighs over 4 LBS, asking why he wasn't asked to provide any evidence, etc, and the rep says "I see your point sir, I will see if we can revisit the case, I put in a request and you should hear back from us in the next 24-48 hours as to WHETHER OR NOT we revisit the case."

I know people make these threads almost daily. But seriously, what the hell am I supposed to do?

This happened awhile ago, but I think a dude tried to scam me twice.
First we agreed that I would purchase a pair of Taxi XIIs from him for $215 shipped. First, he wants me to pay via PayPal gift. I told him no, but I would gladly pay the 4%, which is $8 to prevent me from getting scammed. He agreed to it, and I sent him the money. Days passed and he never responded back with a tracking number or anything. I continuously hit him up asking if he shipped yet or where's my tracking number and he just ignores me. I also know for a fact that he's online when I sent him the PM cuz I see him posting. After about the 5th day, I told him that if I don't get a tracking number by tomorrow I'm gonna file a dispute with PayPal. That's when he finally answered and told me that he's got a lot going on and I'm gonna have to wait a couple of days. At this point, my patience has ran out and I just wanted a refund. He said okay, but to give him a couple days. I told him I'd give him two otherwise I'm gonna file a dispute with PayPal. The next day to my surprise, I got the money refunded back to my account. Cool, everything is over, right? WRONG. Two days later, I get an email from PayPal telling me dude filed a dispute against me and I would have to respond back with a tracking number or something to show proof of shipment. Being that the transaction was a refund and I was the buyer, I can't do that... :x So, I call PayPal and told them that the transaction was a refund and I was never the seller, I was the buyer the entire time. The lady on the phone told me that she sees what the guy is doing and to not worry about it. She's gonna send a message to her supervisor and I'm going to win the dispute. A week later, I got an email from PayPal telling me that I won the dispute. Dude really thought he was clever tryna file a dispute with someone who can't provide a tracking number... :smh:

It sounds like you did everything right, and you still got scammed.  How can Paypal allow this to happen?  I noticed in the post you didn't send signature confirmation, but it doesn't look like that would have mattered.  It looks like sellers have zero protection against a scam artist.

How can Paypal allow this to happen?
Pretty simple: PayPal doesn´t care about such things.PP was made to make more money. The winner is ALWAYS PP /eBay. If someone gets scammed, does anybody really think they investigate? They probably just roll the dice and decide who wins the claim, simple as that...

Yep.
katherinelunn00@gmail.com just tried to e-mail me...this time her "son who is a doctor he was transferred to Lagos to work."

Just another heads up

New name, same spiel. Going by "Jennifer Drake"

I had placed a wanted post for some Lebron 8 Yankees and he sent me a PM stating he has a worn pair for $90...Had him send me some pics and it contained a ebay username in the pic to which he said was him...

After a several emails and his prompt replies, I decided to send him the payment via paypal, even after knowingly I should've asked for pics with his NT username...Guess I have too much faith in people...

I sent him several emails in the following days when the payment was sent, to which I got no reply to....So of course I open a claim with paypal and state my reasons...He replies back stating that he had indeed replied to my emails but that I hadn't replied to his and that the shoes were sent out and I had replied to him stating that I had received them...Total BS of course...

Waited patiently for the claim process to complete, which was today, and got my refund...

Been in it for years and still believe in people in this industry, sucks but the few screw it for the rest of us...

Just like the rules here on NT when selling an item, follow them no matter where it is...

hes been banned from NT.

DO NOT close the claim until you either have shoes, or money. No matter what he tells you. As soon as you close the claim/dispute Paypal will no longer help you.
