For somebody who has not been to Cali yet, first city to visit?

So many west past threads today.

First decide if you want to go to NorCal or SoCal

Then either visit SF or LA , but I would say stay around long beach area if coming to LA. The reason for this is the have a great nightlife there with a strip of bars and its 30min from downtown and all the sneaker/street wear boutiques.

damn dude you confusing me even more than i have been for a while now

what about SD?

Yo. I, not trying to be salty but where is all this San Diego talk come from? There is not much to do there as compared to LA . And right now it's too cold for the beach. San Diego has dope bars and food but you're gonna toto a bar everyday on vacation?

Los Angeles will offer a more complete experience IMO. Plus we have six flags, universal studios, knots berry farm within a 40 minute drive .

Yeah, you're gonna be dealing with terrible traffic in SF if you get a car. I think it's worse than LA's, but I may be in the minority.

lolwut

SF traffic is not that bad....not even remotely close to LA traffic

Um, nah. LA traffic isn't dealing with incredibly slanted hills, pedestrians who are walking waay past the stop light goes on and awkward turns.

Also, skip Oakland

. I went to college in the East Bay. There's nothing special out there aside from Berkeley and Jack London Square.
Clowns love to feel entitled to speak on the city because they drove through once or twice and it's even better when they show their ignorance and s/o Jack London or any other individual area like "ya, that city sucks except that part, that parts cool"

LOL at Jack London Square being what makes Oakland special.

I live in San Diego and I agree L.A. is a lot more to do out there than here. San Diego is where you would want to retire at. Really laid back beach community. I'm originally from Hawaii and I lived in SD for about 9 years and never been in the water. It's just too damn cold haha even in the summer. To me L.A is only cool to visit. Couldn't see myself living there. That traffic is no joke

if your going for a short trip go to santa barbara. carpenteria is just south of it and has a great small town feel with local shops and restaurants and the ocean right there. santa barbara is cool for a day or two with the pier and downtown, and beaches.
if its for longer than 2-3 days than you can't go wrong with l.a. area or bay area. take a look at what they both offer and choose from there.
S.F. airport though :pimp:
LAX :x :smh:

SF traffic/Bay Area traffic in general has gotten horrible these past few years. I left my car at my parents' house in San Jose and got a studio that's a 5 minute walk away from the BART station. Can't deal with all the @#$ hole drivers out here on a daily basis, it's not good for my mental health :smh:

My last job was in San Jose...I left work at 5 to get to the Giants game...didn't get there until 7:40 :x :x :x (without traffic it would've been a 40 minute drive)

Love the city though, not just cause I was born here. All my friends who visit from SoCal love it here as well...everyone is friendly, it's easy to walk places, great food, nice weather (this is subjective; we hate hot weather with a passion so 60-75 degrees is perfect for us), etc. A lot of my boys are Dodger fans but they still have fun at ATT Park, place is like a huge party every game :smokin

Is LA traffic really that bad? I'm planning a move out there in the next year or so and traffic makes me really angry

Also I heard nobody takes the Metro so it wouldn't be feasible to take to work and such :smh:

^Traffic is pretty bad in any major area in Cali. Can't escape it:smh: I get really frustrated in traffic as well, that's why I don't even drive anymore unless I'm going out of town.

LA and SF are both great cities, it just depends on what type of person you are. For example my friend hates that busy, loud city life and prefers the suburbs, so LA is better for him...I'm the complete opposite, so I prefer living in SF.

SF if you wanna go sight-seeing and exploration. SD if you want to chill and beaches, bars, and take strolls. SD offers you the more traditional California experience but, San Francisco offers so much more. Make sure you hit up a Bay Area NTer when you get out here so we can give you a list of things to do. I got some I could think of now.

Fillmore: Historic black neighborhood
Mission: Historic Hispanic neighborhood
Noe Valley: Hipster area known for bars/galleries and restaurants.
Powell/Union Square: Shopping Center of the bay.
North Beach: Historic Italian neighborhood.
Chinatown: Also a good area.
From the ballpark to Fishermans Wharf: Great walk and view.
Geary/Clemente: Good Asian food and bars.
Union Street: Good bars.
Financial District: Good Bars and sightseeing.
Sutter Street/Nob Hill/Upper Tenderloin: Mixed with hipsters, the hood, and trendy people.
Haight: Good shops and bars.
Chrissy field: GG bridge
Golden Gate Park: Good retreat.
Baker Beach: cool small beach.
Judah:Good neighborhood with good restaurants.

I don't know anyone who would make plans to go kick it in Oakland. There are really nice suburban areas there, contrary to the popular believe that the entire city is hood, but still...All my East Bay friends always kick it in Berkeley or the City

If by kick it you mean go out, I'd agree. If by kick it you mean, kick back/relax, enjoy some ****, you couldn't be more wrong.

I've lived here off and on my entire life, I know what my city is and what it's not. It's certainly not a tourist destination but, and I've said this before on here, but imo there isn't a better place in the country to live everyday life or raise a family.

Yea that's what I meant. No denying that Oakland is a relaxing place to just hang out at...it's nice to hit up a good restaurant on the weekends without the stress of driving around forever to find parking

People from outside of the Bay think all of Oakland is just what they show in LiveWire, Too Short, etc videos

Traffic is horrible yo freeways are packed 7am-9am then again around 3:30pm-6pm

My step dad works in downtown Los Angeles and they actually have a anti-traffic schedule. He works 5am-3pm .

And you're right about public transportation. It's crap dude. Unless you live near the blue line (train) it's hard to get from A to B here .

What shocked me about LA traffic was the fact that the ramp meter goes on at like 2 PM

People really do not use their turning signals, they just scoop right in

Saw 3 accidents in my 5 day stay couple weeks ago
