So heres a update on my credit situation. Started out with a 540 last August. I got the Capital One secured credit card and put $250 on it. Used it a good bit and made multiple payments per month while keeping a balance each month. In December, I applied for the Quicksilver card and got approved for a $500 limit. I also got approved for the walmart, old navy, and pacsun cards in the same time frame. In February, i got approved for a auto loan through Capital One (although my interest was 21% :smh: :smh: but can easily make my payments each month). I've been paying my note on time and am ahead a half payment. I went to Vegas for memorial day weekend, and asked Capital One for a credit limit increase on my Quicksilver card. They gave me a $1k credit limit increase! :wow: Now my limit on the quicksilver is $1500 and on the secured card its $550 (they gave me a $300 credit limit increase a few months ago. I heard they barely give them on secured cards). I'm really pleased because i honestly thought I would never be able to have credit again
You've had your car for more than 6 months. Go to your local credit union and ask to refinance your car. Request them to keep the current term you have, you should be able to save a good chunk of money while keeping yourself on track to finishing the loan on time. 21% is just appallingly high for an interest rate on a car.

All of the false credit info in the other general threads are driving me crazy

People actually believe this bs

Out of reps , but good job @sthebest
. Only get cards you need though, I wouldn't recommend anymore store cards.

Thanks for the advice, yeah I'm done with store cards. I forgot I got approved for a Fingerhut account too but never use it. The main reason I started working on my credit is because I applied to get a car in August with Kia and they turned me down and said my credit score was a 430. The dealer told me to work on my credit and go buy a $1500 beater. I showed him because I got a even better car than what he was trying to sell me through another dealer. I've had my car for about 3 months. 3 months more and I'm going to refinance through my credit union or with capital one directly

Impulse sign up smh. Dont even need it.

Why though? Plus the annual fee :smh:

Does Amex even help your credit that much? I mean probably if you're racking up 1k or more every single month?

I know it's a charge card so not sure how it affects your credit since it doesn't have a set limit on your credit file.

I have the regular green Amex btw

That one with the finance manager at the car dealership was terrible

. No way thats right
Completely false , I dont trust finance managers at all and never will.

Claiming that you ruin your credit by getting a pre approved loan from a CU then going into a dealership.

Hell last time I bought a car the dealership pulled my credit at 3-4 different banks

.

All auto loan inquiries within 30 days count as 1 inquiry, that guy is full of **** like most finance managers.

Their sole job is to make the dealership money, and put more money into their pockets by adding on unneeded stuff at signing.

Prbly going to end up canceling after a year when that fee is up. Ill floss at the club in the meantime

Who here has the citi 2% cash back card

I've had it for like 3 months. I used it for the 15 month 0% apr to finance a portion of an engagement ring. After my discover double cash back is up it'll be my general spending card though.

One more month until I can request a CLI with Discover. Anybody ever got one unusually quick without requesting it?

Nah I think they wait like 6 months or so to auto increase

I dont either man after my one run in with them. Dudes just straight up lie and they are good at doing it so what that dude was saying just sounded like he wanted to save face for what his profession does. I understand if those guys want to make dollars for the dealership and themselves but don't try and tell lies to people to make that happen

Dude really said a pre-approved loan from a CU of all places will ruin your credit  :\ :smh:

Who is this lying ************ that said that? A pre-approved loan with a CU doesn't have to pull your credit, you're given an amount to purchase up to and a guaranteed low rate.

Weird that I did not get instant approval on the new Chase Free Unlimited card.

My FICO score is a 791.

Loans I currently have:

1) student loans
2) small revolving credit card debt
3) loan for my motorcycle

Figured I would've gotten an instant approval.

Following up on this:

Turns out they wanted to verify that it was actually me who applied for the card. Gave them a call to verify and was approved over the phone.

That's commonplace. If you have your SSN stolen and fraud is committed you can disputes and have a new SSN assigned. But the company who issued the card takes the loss.

Dude is still lying and stating the obvious. Of course go with the dealerships loan if they are running an apr promo, if not your gonna get ***** unless you have extremely good and well established credit . Most finance managers are liars and no one can tell me different. Dude straight up said it's a lie that FICO doesn't consider rate shopping within 30 days as one pull. Then in the very next sentence says he doesn't lie to customers

It's obvious finance managers aren't taught the ins and outs of FICO. They are taught things that help themselves and the dealership make money. I'll never forget when a finance manager pulled out a CNN article because I wanted to cancel my extended warranty (he still never cancelled it btw I had to call Nissan finance and do it myself) .

What are the benefits of CLIs? Other than having a higher limit
I was catching up in here and I saw a lot of talk about It

I got denied by chase but got approved by discover with a $1500 limit

It gives you more purchasing power without making it look like credit abuse. Many lenders don't want to see that you've used more than 50% of your credit limit when you're looking to buy a home. More than 80% usage affects your credit negatively.

Another positive is the ability to consolidate multiple credit card debts into one monthly payment. Often times the card with the higher limit has the lower interest rate.

Having an Amex charge card still helps your credit score through positive payment history and length of account. However, utlization isn't calculated into the scoring for a charge card since there's no hard set limit. I believe the old scoring model did count a charge card's utilization, but not anymore. You can really use that to your advantage if you spend and put on a big balance it won't count Agaisnt your utlization, you're sort of hiding it with a charge card which is neat thing to do. It also disciplines you to pay in full every month while you reap the rewards etc. There's many other benefits about a charge card, I feel like a lot of people are misinformed about them but they definitely help your credit and can be beneficial in many other ways.
