24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

Am I late? Not sure of credibility, but it's currently being discussed on reddit

Just finished speaking with my Chase Private Client Banker and he told me that Chase Freedom's 5% bonus categories will be going away by the end of the year and will turn into the Chase Freedom Unlimited(1.5% back on everything).
I am flaring this as chatter for now, but I have known my banker for 4 years and trust the information he gives me. I am curious if anyone else with Chase insider information can confirm..

I actually prefer that. I was going to call chase and ask them if I could freely switch to to 1.5%. I use my credit card for EVERYTHING regardless of the bonus periods or not, so this benefits me.

I've never seen an 800 credit score on a buyer under the age of 40.

In my experience 800 comes with depth and huge Credit Highs

Well most folks (and I feel most/all those who are fiscally responsible should) have more than just one cc, each with a different set of benefits/cashback. Sucks for me personally if they take this away. It'd go instantly right to the sock drawer, right next to the GOAT Citi Forward. Wouldn't the Citi double cash card be the better move anyway? Essentially 2% back on everything.

Guess these cashback cards aren't profitable anymore.

I only really have my Chase Freedom at the moment, the other card is a Gap Credit Card through Synchrony bank that I dont use.

Damn I was looking to get a freedom card later too :smh:. No point in me getting the freedom unlimited since I have the citi double cash. Was gonna combine the freedom rotating 5% categories with the ultimate rewards from sapphire preffered

So the derogatory was only showing up in my report for Transunion but not Equifax, so my equifax FICO 8 score via my amex card was already at the 740ish range. The transunion was the issue. All I did was the direct dispute button on Credit Karma and that's it. Within 3 days I got an email saying the dispute was settled, please log in to view the result. When I logged in, it said they agreed to delete the derogatory and my score shot up on credit karma as well. Hope that helps
I see. I have the derogatory for both transition and Equifax, I tried the Direct dispute the other day, I'll see how that goes, then if it works for Transunion, it looks like I have to do a separate dispute on the Equifax website.
Are you guys disputing through the CK app? Dont see the option
Credit Karma-->login-->Credit Reports-->"go to TransUnion credit report" (under your credit score in big numbers-->Go to your missed payment/derogatory--> scroll down, "Direct dispute". Bout' 5 more clicks and derogatory is disputed for free

My fiancée works for Chase so I'd have to confirm this with her but my initial thought is no, it's not. They have a revolving 5% on quarterly categories and 1% back on anything else that doesn't fall in. My freedom card is basically used for gas and my revolving bills. That 1st quarter every year is always nice to me.

I only use my freedom card for the 5% cash back (currently using it for groceries). If they change it to the 1.5% cash back card it's just like the capital one quicksilver card, but only worse because chase doesn't do soft pulls for credit increases.

It gives you more purchasing power without making it look like credit abuse. Many lenders don't want to see that you've used more than 50% of your credit limit when you're looking to buy a home. More than 80% usage affects your credit negatively.

Another positive is the ability to consolidate multiple credit card debts into one monthly payment. Often times the card with the higher limit has the lower interest rate.

This might be what matters in my next card.

I currently have the og chase freedom (2200 cl) and citi simplicity(2400 cl).

I don't think it'll be worth the hard pulls to try for cli on chase and don't know there specifics of the citi card. If chase nixes the 5% categories then I might consider a new cash back card.

So the choices are

Discover IT or AMEX blue cash

I just recently (January) transferred my balance from chase to citi when I opened the card for the 0% interest period.
I'm working on moving out (rent) in the next 6 months so that might factor into my decision.

Im currently using the chase to pay bills but figure the new card may have better rewards for that purpose and can retire the chase as it's my oldest.

When I consolidated my cards I started receiving offers from Chase, Discover, Amex, Citi, and Capital One about new card offers. All of them said transfer balances for 0% intro rate for the first 12 months. Some of the offers were on existing credit cards with those companies. If you get those same offers after consolidating it might be best to continue doing the balance transfer at 0% every year until the balance is paid off.

Discover it > Blue Cash in my opinion unless you get the blue cash preferred and spend a ton on groceries. I've got both the it and the blue cash everyday and I'm using the %10 back on cell phone provider purchases on the blue cash to pay my cell phone bill but other than that I hardly use it.

Blue Cash is in my top 3 most used. Amex customer service is top notch and benefits are great. They have Amex Offers which gives you $xx off $xx for certain stores every once in a while.

These are the offers I've signed up for and still need to use, there's a bunch available (a lot are junk, but you'll get the occasional gem like the Staples and 10% Chevron below):

Is AMEX half as generous with the CLIs as discover?

Amex is better with CLIs honestly. 3x CLI after the first 60 days then you can get another 6 months after your last CLI. so if you start out with $4,000 limit you can get it to $36,000 if you wanted in 8 months.

Only reason why I will be adding an AMEX CC one day 3x CLI is dope.

Actually just realized I've never done a CLI request for my Amex. Saw that they will require income verification (IRS 4506T form) if you request over $34,500. I requested just that and got it :pimp:

So heres a update on my credit situation. Started out with a 540 last August. I got the Capital One secured credit card and put $250 on it. Used it a good bit and made multiple payments per month while keeping a balance each month. In December, I applied for the Quicksilver card and got approved for a $500 limit. I also got approved for the walmart, old navy, and pacsun cards in the same time frame. In February, i got approved for a auto loan through Capital One (although my interest was 21% :smh: :smh: but can easily make my payments each month). I've been paying my note on time and am ahead a half payment. I went to Vegas for memorial day weekend, and asked Capital One for a credit limit increase on my Quicksilver card. They gave me a $1k credit limit increase! :wow: Now my limit on the quicksilver is $1500 and on the secured card its $550 (they gave me a $300 credit limit increase a few months ago. I heard they barely give them on secured cards). I'm really pleased because i honestly thought I would never be able to have credit again

Good stuff. Refinance that ASAP though
