24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

Yea, I was def leaning towards a CC company's flight card and not a specific airline or something. The BoA seemed decent since I bank with them and you get the 10% bonus or whatever based on your checking and savings amounts and stuff.

Definitely going to look more into the Chase Sapphire one though :nthat:

Edit:
Now I remember that card as I look. This is the one with the $450 annual fee! :x

Granted me and the wife have 2 weddings next year...one in Brazil and 1 in Mexico. Between the points and $300 credit on the statement and 3x dining points....it might just be worth it.....and then cancel it after a year

Maybe I will just roll preferred and not reserved

You'll get WAY more value out of the reserve. But if you're going to get one and cancel after a year probably get the preffered, earn the 50k bonus then get the reserve. Product change the preferred to a freedom or freedom unlimited then meet the spend for the reserve. That's 150k points right there that will be worth $2,250 in flights/hotels through the ultimate rewards portal. Not to mention if you used the reserve on flights to meet the spend you'll get $300 of that back through the airline credit and you earned 3x points on travel/dining. So you'll come out on top earning at least $1950 if you did that.

Saw this on reddit and thought of you guys.
Who on here was this?  :x :smh:
Denied for credit card because "You have had 84 hits on your credit in the last 30 days"

Does anyone know what this means? I only applied for 2 other credit cards in the last 30 days. This is making me think someone might have stolen my identity. This sounds like a ridiculous amount.

EDIT: Credt Karma says I only have 4 hard inquiries and a credit score of: 689: Transunion 727: Equifax Doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary - no idea why the bank would say this.

RESOLVED (Apparently the idiots did a check on my address without the unit number and that was the total number of "hits" in my entire apartment complex. Granted this still seems odd but that's the explanation they gave)

What it ended up being though haha

how is that possible though? Wouldn't they be running the credit on the specific person name/ssn/address/ birthday? So how can they say "we accidently ran the credit of everyone in the apartment complex?

That's what I was trying to figure out. Like they did a "sweep" and pulled inquiries within that given complex but pinned them to one person???

Fellas, so discover has my info from my old job. Making a lot more now, should I try to submit a CLI? They did give me an automatic bump a few months ago but in reality my credit limit is way low for my income imo. I'm looking at the form online & it says they won't try a hard pull without my permission but I don't wanna take any chances.

So can someone explain the $300 Travel Credit to me that offsets the $450 Yearly fee?

That means any travel that I book, I can redeem basically like a credit statement worth $300?

Because what I plan to do is Transfer the 100K miles to Southwest to maximize my flights.

I can fly roundtrip domestically for 10K a roundtrip flight, that would be worth 10 flights for me.

So with the $300 Credit I can use that towards like hotel stays? Airbnb?

It's a credit that is automatically applied to your account when you make a purchase that falls within Chase's Travel category.

For example, if you charge a $1000 hotel stay to your CSR. You will only have to pay $700

^^ But do you have to book the travel through the chase shopping portal or anything like that?

For example if I stay at a hotel one random night instead of driving home and swipe my credit card, that would count right?

You pay $1000 but the $300 credit is applied in like a day or two.

So is the $450 annual fee charged the 1st month? It's not waived the first year is it?

Basically I have to decide soon, I will be doing alot of domestic flights net year and I'd like to maximize my points with Southwest.
