damn killzone is looking great

definitely getting that game when it drops. hopefully the controls will be better with hearing the improvements in controls. thats the only thing that kept me from really playing FPSs on the PS3 but sony has been winning me back recently thanks to The Last of Us its probably the best game ive played this year

If you're a COD fan, you'll probably not like KZ's gameplay.
It's slower and the controls aren't as solid as COD's.
Speaking from KZ 2 experience.

Only thing keeping me from copping. Looks awesome but I hate the way it plays

Killzone Shadow Fall is almost 40GB

At an event at Guerrilla's Amsterdam offices this week, the developer confirmed that the final version of PlayStation 4 launch title Killzone Shadow Fall clocks in at 39.7GB (in Europe, anyway: some localised versions of the game, needing fewer audio tracks in different languages, are closer to 37GB). Using Sony's PlayGo system, which allows a game to be played while it's still streaming data off the servers, Shadow Fall will be playable after a 7.5GB download.

For players who chose to buy Killzone Shadow Fall from the PlayStation Store, Sony's new PlayGo system alleviates the game's unwieldy size - to an extent. Van der Leeuw reckons those with decent internet connections will be able to download the first 7.5GB, start playing while the second level downloads and then play that, all in a single evening - and then have the complete game downloaded by the next morning. But he acknowledges that even this could be more streamlined.

"Realistically, I think a lot of people can do this... It's just that the initial chunk of 7.5GB is quite big. I think if we would have known exactly how everything would work... I think next time around we'll try to see if we can design something that doesn't jeopardise the game which will make it even friendlier. But I think all things considered, this being launch and we've got like 2 minutes 44 from disc to the first level and no installs, I think it's already a massive improvement over previous generations."
Whether played from hard disc or Blu-ray, van der Leeuw is particularly proud of how fast and seamlessly the game loads; it's been a pet project for the tech director, who hates how slow modern games have become to operate. Guerrilla has completely eliminated in-game load times after an initial 30 seconds, and removed all logos and splash screens from the game's start-up routine. It may take a while to download Killzone Shadow Fall, but once you have it, the game comes to you very quickly indeed.

"To me, that's still something that fills my heart with joy when I see it. You insert the disc and go straight to menu," he says. "People here worked very hard... We had to ask legal and Dolby, the epilepsy warning stuff, the logos from Havok - we had to negotiate with them that we could put it in the credits and not the title screen... All the rules are built around the previous generation. I'm really happy that we're one of the first ones in, and I hope it's an example that people are going to follow.

Biggest news for me is the short loading times and them moving all those splash screens to the credits. Something that should have been done a while ago and I'm glad its here at the start of next gen.

Pop disk in, and menu pops up. :smokin

I hope gamestop lets me switch my BF4 pre order from PS4 to PS3 so I can just upgrade when the PS4 version comes out

I currently have Killzone, BF4, COD:G, and NBA2k14 preordered, and will pick up Warframe, Blacklight, and FFXIV for free on release.

Still may preorder Need for Speed and possibly Minecraft on PSN. Will wait to see how Knack looks in reviews.

I have no games pre ordered at this point :\ i'm hoping i can just walk in the store on the 14th or the 15th and just grab 2k and killzone.. that should be possible right ?

As much as I love 2K's gameplay as well as its graphics, I can see what people are saying about being disappointed in it. I was hoping that Nex Gen would bring about a more fluid looking/feeling 2K game. I've always been bothered by it's animation and controls, which reminds me that I'm watching a videogame and not a real broadcast. The animation feels exactly what it is, animations.. I would prefer something like Fifa where you have control of the player 90% of the time and not have to wait for an animation to finish.

Also, has never played Killzone but those screenshots probably convinced me to get it...

Do I need to know the story of 1,2,3 to play this one?

Absolutely. Games will be easy to come by I think. I just want to roll up at the midnight release and have all my stuff waiting for me so its quick.

No. They have said that the past games tie in, but you in no means need to know the back story other than the Vektans and Helghast have been at war for 40 years and the Helghast homeworld was destroyed by that war.

However, I would go back and play them. Very fun, especially 2. 3 is great too, 1 is pretty dated now.

Id suggest watching this: then either playing 3 or reading about the plot on WIkipedia.

Picking up my PS4 early in the morning from UPS and not having to wait till the evening to have it delivered :pimp: . Everyone who ordered from amazon sign up for the my ups account it allows you to have up to the minute location info with way more detailed tracking and most importantly you can make them hold your item for pick up soon as it arrives at the ups facility .

^ will do.. ups always comes  about 11:30 or 12, but i think i might just do the same and go pick it up in the morning

The controls in Shadowfall have been improved. The input lag from the previous games is gone. You can see from the videos it's much smoother, and it's 60 FPS to boot. And all MP maps are free. You can't beat that.

^i'm not interested in shadow fall. I've watched gameplay vids and I prefer cod.

I like both and I will be getting both but at this time I've always known that killzone had potential to be great. cod is always gonna be a solid game regardless but I like seeing the improvements in killzone

They removed all the opening logos and splash screens from the start-up in Shadow Fall. When you start the game you go straight to the menu.

That's fine I was just saying the controls have been improved.

COD is garbage though. Least next-gen next gen game IMO.
