The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Target deal isn't yet verified (most likely true though). but I'm confused about your question, you'll be able to get the games Sunday November 10 if in stock
Looking at the ad, some of the games drop on a tuesday whereas Nov. 10 is a sunday, thats what I mean

i believe that in the short term future, gaikai will just be an extension of ps+

"here's your 3 ps3 games (that you wouldnt be able to play on your ps4 otherwise)"

long term is a different story

Yes, I hope everyone goes to amazon now. Lighten up the Target traffic.

so, ill most likely have to pay an extra shipping charge if i order the games from amazon right ? or will they throw it in with my ps4 order

I doubt it happens but it would be great if Amazon added games that come out next year.
Amazon wouldn't do that because they take your money when the items have shipped.

If they did that, they'd be giving you a discount without recieving any money till said games release.

I have a 50mb connection at home and a 30mb connection at school.

Is that good enough to support remote play, if I felt like doing that?
Im gonna expand on concord's post a bit.

50 megabyte or 50 megabit? 50Mb (around 200 Mbps) vs 50Mbps is a pretty big difference. Not gonna be very surprised if its megabyte since a bunch of universities had fibre op for a long time, however you gotta consider 2 things the ps4's upload speed vs the ps vita's download speed. If your download speed is fast, lets say 50 megabytes but youre out at a starbucks and you want to pull out your vita its not likely that the starbucks has fibre op so you would most likely be bottle necked by that and cause lag from that. If you take the same example but you have a 3g version of the vita your gonna be limited by the download speed of your provider. Most people in US get roughly 10 - 50 megabit download and around 10 upload, it really depends on your location and how much you pay. Your internet provider probably doesnt even hit those values when at peak hours with millions of users. My phone gets roughly 15 megabits download speed on 4G, 3G will probably be slower. I have no clue what data the ps4 sends to the vita but i assume that the way sony implemented remote play is that the ps4 does all the work and sends the picture to the vita then the vita inputs controls and sends it back. This means the ps4 loads up all the textures, does all the calculations etc then sends the image to the vita. It has to do this enough times to reach 60 fps to be 'lag free'. There are way too many things that could cause lag in between, speed of your internet upload with your ps4, speed of your download with the wifi/3g network your ps vita is on, traffic/number of users on both the router and internet provider will slow things down even more.

To answer your question i assume the vita uses your routers wifi signals to transmit data to and from the vita to the ps4. This doesnt even require internet just a router and will depend on the routers speed not your internet provider's. Think of wifi as blutooth its just a medium for the data to be sent through and your router is just a middleman.

Not sure if this is entirely correct but ive had enough problems with my router/internet to do a little research. I may be wrong and sony does use internet to send and receive data over the same router and then my answer would change on how much data needs to be sent over internet, but i highly doubt it. Remote play theoretically works flawless if you have very high upload speeds for your ps4 and very high download speeds for your vita, however we are constrained to our internet providers speeds. It would be interesting to see remote play tested with google fibre however it would still probably be bottlenecked by the 3g [or 4g if you use your phone as a wifi hotspot] or whatever public wifi you are using.

cliffs

using the vita to game outside ur house will depend on your ps4's upload speed and your vitas's download speed.

to the average consumer this is pretty slow. blame your isp

using the vita like a wii u will result in almost lagless play because it uses your router's local signals and not your internet

thank you for using cliffs and the info

I don't even have a vita. I was just wondering.

btw the connection is megabits rather than megabytes.

edit: no wait I mean the other way around.

Can someone fill me in on how the target deal works? The deal is supposed to start on the 10th which is sunday but some games are only arriving on tuesday. So would I be able to purchase a tuesday released game on sunday as one of my three and then pick up it up on tuesday? Also, will this deal be available on the target site? My sister lives in the states so I have to make her do this for me.

Alright now this is going to piss me off. This is the main reason PS4 was going to be my console of choice this gen. Sony is showing those true colors again :rolleyes

Remote Play on PS4 might not work if you leave the house

Realize the full potential of your Vita...but only when you're at home.

In addition to confirming the PlayStation 4 launch title list and nixing the idea of external storage, the PS4 FAQ posted on the PlayStation blog today has an interesting recommendation regarding Remote Play: you should only use the service if you're staying home.

Remote Play is a feature that allows Vita owners to access their PS4 and play games on the handheld over WiFi. Of course, Remote Play works now on PlayStation 3, but only with a few PS3 titles. According to Sony, "...most PS4 titles will support Remote Play unless the title requires a special peripheral like PlayStation Camera."

However, Sony also says that, "We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected."

The explanation is that Remote Play functions better when you keep it in the same network, and Sony adds: "We also recommend that PS4 be connected to the local area network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming be used, and that the PS Vita system be within close proximity of the WiFi access point so that the connection is free of interference."

That doesn't mean Remote Play won't work on an outside network, but you may run into some issues. Sony says, "For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable WiFi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4."

While the possibility of playing every game in your library on a handheld that Remote Play promised way back at the launch of the PS3 is pretty exciting, the fact that it might not work once you leave home is a little disappointing.

I thought this was common sense. Routing on a local network will always be faster than across the internet.

These are the diiferent ways of remote play.

Look here for more info.

Direct connection is the best, then local routing then across the internet but it should work fine if you have the ideal situation for all three.

Sony didn't hide anything. These are the same instructions they had for remote play on the Vita to PS3.

 Who still uses Ethernet cables ? :smh:

Sony needs to stop announcing/releasing stuff if it isn't 100% functional / ready at launch. We cant miss what we don't know about.

Ethernet gives the best performance and is good for streaming.

Good post.
Just want to say that remote play won't work over 3G though.

Since sony removed the street date on all the software doesn't that mean we can buy the games now?

Say what you will... but Sony misled this whole remote play experience. Not to say it woulda been buttery smooth anywhere I go I wasnt expecting that. But to say it might not work is misleading period. They shouldve said this from the get go.

Most of yall dont care because you either dont have a vita or dont plan on making remote play a vital part of your gaming experience and I get that. But dont act like this wasnt a b.s. move on Sonys part.

My dude, It's common sense.
Anything that requires the internet to work won't work if you're connection to the internet is bad but will work if your connection is good. That's all they're saying.

I have a Vita and remote play isn't new. PSP to PS3 and PSV to PS3 has already been done and they already had manuals for this stuff. Nothing misleading.

The only difference now is that the PS4 has a chip for encoding/decoding and gaikai tech for streaming so it's been built with remote play in mind. Add that to the fact that PS4 and Vita are powerful and they both use wireless N it would work better.

All they're saying is it works fine but over the internet, but your internet can be a bottleneck if the speed is not great or your far away from the wireless access point. Nothing to do with the actual tech they've implemented.

Ya'll think that they will most likely bring back the media streaming

nowhere did they say that processing some disc based game then sending it over your house's wifi, then through the internet, then through your local network to your vita through it's wifi - was gonna be some lag free experience

youre free to do it

1/60 frames processes at 16 miliseconds, 1/30 in 33, how long you think it takes your ps4 to send that processed video all the way to your vita's wifi on some other network?

how have they mislead you?  all their live local demonstrations?  or was it that staged japanese video where japan actually has like gabit wifi?

Speaking of Vita's, my screen has gone black. No images at all although you can still hear audio.

How much should I expect to pay if I send to Sony?

Should I just buy a new one? Any good deals if I go this route?

 Like I said it's cool man. I know I'm in a PS4 thread and you're going to defend Sony to the death, esp. considering this is a feature most of you weren't planning to use. You and I both know if this was M$ your opinion would be different, there would be gifs all over this thread and everything. If Sony didn't mislead this wouldn't be a huge news story on basically every video gaming related website on the internet and a huge cause for concerning on multiple forums not named NT apparently.

I never said I expected it to work flawless, but I did expect it to work stable enough for me to enjoy gaming and it was promoted that way contrary to what you would like to say. Had Sony said this from the start there would be no issue. It was misleading. But this is the last time I'll speak on it here cause we all know Sony can do no wrong in this thread.
