The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Microsoft tried to pull a fast one on killing the always-online strategy, but I low and behold, they made a workout around...

Instead of a once every 24hr check in, you have to check in to download (play) the full entirety of the game, IE: Forza 5. So basically Forza 5 is being shipped with only half the game on disc, if you want the other half which is extra cars, tracks, drivetars etc. you have to download [cough] check in [/cough] to get the rest of the content. As long as your connected to the internet, the full game is yours, but if you're not, you only get the portion that comes on the disc.

Rushed game or a new strategy to keep it's dearly beloved always-on/connected DRM? Ill go with the latter.

:x

It requires a one time internet connection from what I read.

Also... My PS4 is paid off

the game is being "rushed" in a sense. It was designed with the always online in mind. So when that plan was scrapped, youre left with a game that has features not there because it relied on certain things. So either it could be delayed for a while and they put the content in the game, or you get a day 1 patch with drivatars etc

But also do people forget that the console requires a day 1 patch also. So if you have no internet whatsoever, buying the console would make no sense

Top 10 Sony Exclusives That Need to Be on PS4

#7 already confirmed but it's a good list.

http://n4g.com/news/clickout/1311993

I think that's a terrible list. I agree with 5 maybe?

Cut out SOCOM (Zipper's gone), Crash (never get the rights), ZOE (Kojima is too busy with 12412412 other things), Ratchet (one just announced for PS3), and Darkstalkers and replace them with:

1. Legend of Dragoon

2. Syphon Filter

3. Suikoden

4. Brave Fencer Musashi

5. Chrono series/Legend of Mana series/ Legend of Legaia series/Vagrant Story/Grandia

The first shooter I ever played. I think thats where I first used the P90. :pimp:

edit

In regards to SOCOM 4 for the PS3. - - "The game sold moderately well, selling approximately 710,000 units, although it did have a disappointing launch due to the PlayStation Network breach." :smh: :smh:

I spent more time dead in SOCOM then I did playing and it was still the best. I was too young to :smokin during that era and that's why I think I got my *** kicked so bad. I can still remember the dudes that I played with.

I actually enjoyed the SOCOM 4 beta. Can't remember why I didn't buy it but maybe it was related to the PSN outage.

Either way all they had to do was a SOCOM HD with socom 1,2, and 3 maps. Confrontation didn't cut it.

socom 1 and 2 are still the greatest games ever IMO...I played the **** out of both, was around the day socombattles.com started to where it is now with gamebattles.com.

Met a lot of people on that game that I still talk to this day

if the online-deal with Forza 5 is true!
Meanwhile, I haven't heard any news on the PS4-release for HK...

You'll get your answer at TGS. I think Sony will target Asia and Japan for December latest.
If India is getting it this year, Hong Kong will too

Man, I hope so... no disrespect to India, but I will

if they get it before us!  We got the PS3 6 days after Japan, while India got it 5 months later!

HK is a relatively smaller market, so it shouldn't be tough for them to satisfy the demand here.

We have an "Asian Game Show" at the end of December every year, so hopefully by then, it'll be all about selling the unit rather than just promoting it.

We have parallel-importers here... that's how I got my Super Famicom, PC Engine, PS1, PS2 (and probably some other consoles!), but now I'd prefer to get it via Sony HK... for the warranty.

Fingers-crossed, I think we should be ok.

Ive only pre-ordered Killzone.

Too many PS3 games dropping to focus on PS4 just yet. I have Tales of Xillia, FF XIV, FF X HD, and a huge backlog to worry about until October. Then I can start picking which games I'll preorder.

If I preorder the ps4, I'd probably get watch dogs.

But I'm thinking nah, since I have no idea how significant of a difference the next gen version will be to the current gen verision.

NICE, I HAVE TV #5 BUT I HAVE THE PANASONIC GT50 60" MODEL. BEST TV I HAVE EVER BOUGHT HANDS DOWN. PLASMAS ARE DEF THE WAY TO GO IMO FOR GAMING AND PICTURE QUALITY. I'M PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE SONY 4K TV TO DROP INTO THE $3000-$4000 RANGE AND ILL BE UPGRADING TO THAT.

Wow, you can drop that on a TV. Salute to you. The 55 inch is $4999 so not long to go before you can get it. Let us know when you get it.
Also are you going to get the 4K server too?

That is sneaky. I would give them nbenefit of the doubt since it's a launch title and those are usually rushed but thats the second thing that needs a connection when you purchase it. The Xbone itself and now Forza 5.
If the trend continues then it probably will just be MS disguising their initial plan and that wouldn't surprise me

Sony teases “many cool things” for PS4 and Vita at Gamescom

In a tweet earlier today Tony Clark from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe teased us with a PS4 and PSVita hashtags, referencing the upcoming gamescom (starting Aug. 21st) as having “many cool things” to show us.

Tony Clark
@ AntonyaClark

Gamescom. Coming soon. So many cool things to tell the world. #ps4 #psvita #gc2013

Cancelled my pre-order for Watch Dogs.

I still like the game, but I don't see it as a must cop PS4 launch title anymore.

Gonna roll with just Madden 25 and NBA 2k14 on the PS4 for a while, maybe that will give me time to clear the huge backlog of PS3 games I have.

PS4: 14 things we learned at Develop 2013

A very good read but the last 6 points have some new stuff things as well as clarification of what we already knew

9. PS4 features a new 'connected UX'
As Brown explains, "The PS4 user experience, which we're calling 'the connected UX' is a new paradigm where everything and everyone is connected. We aim to transform how users engage with and experience content across our platforms." Okaaaaay. So what does that mean? Well, the menu systems are built around five core principles: simple, social, immediate, integrated and personalised. It seems you'll be able to customise the layout, manage downloads and see friends' content and activities - all in your own way, the layout reflecting your priorities. It's all a bit airy, but the not thing Brown did specify was, when the machine boots up, it defaults to a 'What's New' screen, which shows everything that's going on in your network, from what your friends are playing, to videos they've posted, to news from publishers. The main UI shows recently played games, and each has its own 'live tile', which reveals news feeds, lists any friends who own the title, and shows the game's most viewed videos and news feeds. Developers can also create more complex tiles complete with game stats, real-time social leader boards, live updates on in-game events, and animated game items or characters. The live tiles can also immediately send the player to a specific mode, game save or challenge, without them having to go through the in-game menu options first.

10. Moving toward a real social network
Which means real photos of players and real names shown above characters in multiplayer sessions. However, your current PSN avatar and user name will still exist and you'll have control over who gets to see your real details. Players can also immediately join a friend's multiplayer session from the PS4 main menu.

11. The Share button and how it works
The most obvious addition to the DualShock 4 controller, apart from the touch pad, is the Share button. Apparently, a long press will take a screenshot of the current action, without interrupting gameplay, while a short press brings up the Share menu. On here there's the option to view, edit and share the last few minutes of gaming footage. PS4 uses a dedicated hardware encoder to continually record the last "several minutes" of footage, without taking any processor resources. So if anything interesting happens, you just hit share and upload the video. The video chip also allows players to live stream their gaming to the wider community. Spectators, meanwhile, will be able to chat to other viewers, or choose to join in the game if they own it themselves. If you don't own it, you can opt to start downloading it while still viewing the live footage. Brown also says that developers will be able to add a selection of spectator commands that the game can dynamically respond to. For example, if the onscreen player is fighting an end-of-level boss, but is low on health, a spectator could click a Heal option to help them out.

12. Seamless Remote Play
The PS4 implementation of Remote Play should be much smoother than PS3's thanks to the built-in video chip, which means there's no performance overhead for the game itself – plus the Gakiai technology is used from streaming so it's apparently very low latency. According to Brown, PS4 also supports a local multi-user lobby, so up to four players can connect to the same PS4 at once – and all saved games are bound to the user not the device.

13. Seamless companion apps
Meanwhile, the PlayStation App for iOS and Android devices allows you to browse friends lists, PSN options and the PlayStation Store as well as controlling your PS4; so you can tell it to start downloading a new game while you're on the bus home. And of course, Developers are also able to build their own companion apps, offering 'second screen' experiences to enhance the main screen action or providing remote functions so players can, say, tweak their Fifa teams via their smartphones, then get home and try out the new formation on the console. We're already seeing this happening, but it's likely to be a lot more common in the next generation.

14. Instant access to downloads
A lot of this is already known, but Brown went through it anyway and it's worth re-stating. Basically, when downloading digital games from the PlayStation Store, purchasers are able to start playing almost immediately. This is because developers are able to split game code into chunks, and as soon as the first section is downloaded, you're ready to go, with the rest coming down in the background. Players can choose to download either the single- or multiplayer component first, while patches and firmware updates will download automatically overnight if the system is left on standby. Brown also claimed that you'll be able to log on to your digital games library from a friend's house and start playing immediately. There's no word yet on the DRM aspects of this, but it's exactly what Microsoft was boasting about with Xbox One. It will be interesting to see how both manufacturers expand on all these concepts at the major Gamescom event in August.

9. More use of save states to bypass loading a game and instantly jumping to a mode or challenge in the game

10. It will be very much like a social network if you want to make it that way or you can keep it private like how it currently is.

11. Spectator commands sounds interesting, i want to see how they can implement it well. Sharing still sounds solid.

12. Now this caught my eye. Up to four players locally can connect to the same PS4 at once on their Vita's . This can be huge if it's what I think it is. If a game supports 4 player splitscreen it can split the screen up into 4 and send it to the 4 different Vita's
Since the Vita's resolution is 960 x 544, it's ~ 1/4 of HD.

It could be a possibility but I dout it since they never mentioned remote play for more than one vita.

It's either that or they just mean that if you play local co-op, up to 4 people can sign in on the same PS4 and their saves and trophies will be tied to their profile so it will save it on the cloud then they can continue it at home

13. Companion apps are going to big next gen. I prefer the remote functions than the extra screen though.

14. You can choose whether you want the multiplayer or single player mode to download first and start playing it once the first chunk downloads. That's amazing. Still need to hear more info about playing your digital games anywhere though.

Gamescom's the next stop for all these answers
