The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I'm really interested in Sunset Overdrive on the X1, because I love Insomniac Games and the Ratchet & Clank series. The ridiculous weapons remind me of Ratchet and the open world parkour reminds me of Jet Set Radio minus the rollerblades.

Hopefully it does well on the X1. It looks more like a game you would find on a PlayStation. It would be a shame if it got cannibalized by Call of Duty players who don't want to play other games.
Yeah I just YouTubed it after your post and it def looks like it would be a lot of fun. Had forgot about this game
I think people are trying to justify their Xbone purchase by saying Ryse looks good. That game looks like ****. Xbone just doesn't have a system seller right now for me.

I can play Titanfall on PC, or wait for it to come to PS4. Halo without Bungie is an easy pass.

Add the fact that we haven't seen games from 3 of Sony's big time studios (Naughty Dog, SSM, and Polyphony(admittedy Polyphony''s debut will be a long ways off) and it's clear to me the PS4 is the way to go.
Well for me I'm just interested in things of this genre. Much like my interest in greek mythology made me want to check out the GoW series. And I see a little bit of similarities between the two. People were saying how many quick time events the game (Ryse) had and that it would get stale but GoW has its fair share of quick time events as well and no one complained. Its all about how its implemented i guess

Buy 1 PS4.

Buy 2 or 3 Vita TV's.

Play PSVita, PSN, and PS4 games anywhere in your home on any TV, as well as stream Hulu, Netflix, ect. Chromecast doesnt come to Canada so this is big for me.

You go on a trip where you would normally bring your PS4. You now just toss this tiny box and a DS3 in your bag and can use it anywhere with a tv and an internet connection.

Down the line when Gaikai is introduced, this thing potentially becomes a $99.99 digital PS3.

It doesnt replace Vita, it compliments it. It just offers more options. So although it may not be for you, this thing could be a very popular device if marketed correctly. And more importantly, works as advertised.

I personally dont see a benefit for Kinect 2.0 in how I play games. I dont need voice recognition or motion controls, ect. However, somebody, somewhere may come up with a killer game or application that may sell me on it. So even though it is not for me, I can't deny it's potential. The technology is impressive, I just havent found interest in how its currently applied.
:smokin :smokin :smokin

I don't see how people are saying this is meh? Thus sounds HUGE to me!

I've read multiple articles that say that the PS Vita TV will only stream PS4 games to another TV as long as it is connected to the same Wifi network. I also noticed In the Vita TV video, when the guy's friends go to his house, he has to manually turn on the PS4 and streams a game in another TV but in the same house.

If this is the case: if you're not interested in Vita games, this is only an $100 extender. I'd rather unplug the console and take the 5 minutes to hook it up to another TV than spend $100.

If it is like the PS Vita, which streams the game no matter what network it is connected to, then yes, it is worth $100.

I think it's worth it either way.  Don't get me wrong: I would love if the vita tv would be able to wake the ps4 from another room.

But for me, moving my ps3 is not a reasonable option.  It is in the entertainment center and attached to the surround system receiver.  There is no way i'm moving that from the wall and unplugging just to move to another room.  Maybe it's a niche product, but I consider it a great expansion of ps4's capabilities and worth $100 even if that's all I use it for.

God of War has a fair amount of QTE's, but it has a really good free form combat system. Ryse's combat looks more like Assassin's Creed, which is pretty weak. The enemies on screen play wait their turn and it's mostly QTE counters that turn into canned animation execution kills. Assassin's Creed has other mechanics like an open world that you can parkour in to save it from it's weaknesses in combat. Ryse doesn't.

I grew up playing hack-and-slash action games like Legacy of Kain, Shinobi, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Prince of Persia, etc. I wouldn't compare Ryse to GOW. The only similarity to me is the violence. There doesn't seem to be much variation in the enemies. The game might just be limited by it's setting. There's only so many different gladiator variations you can fight. Ryse looked dope until they started playing it.

the fighting mechanics on Ryse look slow and choppy.  I agree with dude who posted it looked real nice, until they started playing it.  Keep in mind this game was supposed to be a kinect only game, so you can imagine how much worse it could've been.  I mean what kinect games aren't slow and choppy?

Everyone complained about QTE, so M$ showed more gameplay w/o it and it looked worse

Word...I haven't really been keeping up with it guess i'll have to go look at some more of the gameplay. Initially looked promising to me tho

inFAMOUS Second Son footage shown in this interview with Scott Rhode

Gameplay is just smooth.

There's also a Jack Tretton interview but it isn't something we haven't heard before.

I'm sorry, but that video has me in tears. (Second Son still looks amazing.)

"Meet my friend, God of War!"

"Wh-wait. What is with this guy? He just. He, he pulverizes and then he starts attacking?"

And I swear the woman at the start of the video must be drunk.

I couldn't make it thru that video "He's like Spider-man!"

Was that playable or a video, I'm going to say a video, plus the Dualshock 4 wire is behind the curtain... why? We know what the PS4 looks like, Sony has shown it to the public... :rolleyes

It's probably playable. Its the same portion of gameplay they showed during E3. It's probably running off a dev unit or something. I don't know if incomplete games can run on retail units.

the dude that was playing the game became awkward after the game was over

Anybody think we will ever see a Tourist Trophy 2? I never played the first on ps2, but a motorcycle game by polyphony always intrigued me. Might pick it up for cheap after Xmas.

I doubt it. Polyphony look like a one game team these days. Kaz said GT7 will be out in a 1 to 2 years time so they'll probably be focused on that and GT6.
Bikes may not be as popular as cars but there's hardly any games out for them. TT on the PS4 would be a great investment IMO.

Speaking of Cars

A new #DRIVECLUB video is hitting the interwebs this afternoon: A Time Trial at Night in Chile featuring the beautiful Audi R8 V10 Plus! In the meantime, here's 3 exclusive GIFS of what to expect.

Power struggle: the real differences between PS4 and Xbox One performance

PlayStation 4 is currently around 50 per cent faster than its rival Xbox One. Multiple high-level game development sources have described the difference in performance between the consoles as “significant” and “obvious.”

Our contacts have told us that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.

Microsoft is aware of the problem and, having recently upped the clock speed of Xbox One, is working hard to close the gap on PS4, though one developer we spoke to downplayed the move. “The clock speed update is not significant, it does not change things that much,” he said. “Of course, something is better than nothing.”

Even this close to launch, “the hardware isn’t locked,” said another source. Sony and Microsoft are each still working on the graphics drivers for each console, and Xbox One is lagging behind in this regard – Microsoft “has been late on their drivers and that has been hurting them,” said one source. Another described Xbox One’s graphics drivers less charitably as “horrible”. Both consoles’ graphics drivers will continue to improve right up to – and beyond – launch, which will even up the difference in performance a little.

Xbox One does, however, boast superior performance to PS4 in other ways. “Let’s say you are using procedural generation or raytracing via parametric surfaces – that is, using a lot of memory writes and not much texturing or ALU – Xbox One will be likely be faster,” said one developer.

Both platform holders are, of course, encouraging developers to take advantage of each console’s unique features (the DualShock 4’s touch pad and Kinect, for example) but there’s little enthusiasm for either among the developers we spoke to. “They really want us to make use of platform specific stuff to give their version a leg up over the other,” said one source. “But unless there’s a good design reason or incentive we rarely do.”

Indeed, despite that gulf in speed, the differences between cross platform launch window games will be negligible; with tight deadlines to meet, it’s more expedient for developers to deliberately create near-identical versions.

“The poor [graphics] drivers have made it difficult to push either of them, and the developers aren’t familiar with the hardware yet,“ said one source. Another stated that we’ll begin to see far greater use of each platform’s unique features once we’re past the first wave of releases, when developers have more time and experience with each console’s quirks.

One source even suggested that enforcing parity across consoles could become a political issue between platform holders, developers and publishers. They said that it could damage perceptions of a cross platform title, not to mention Xbox One, if the PS4 version shipped with an obviously superior resolution and framerate; better to “castrate” the PS4 version and release near-identical games to avoid ruffling any feathers.

This claim was later countered by a contact at a different studio. “It would be totally fine for us to make one version prettier without any political difficulties but it usually doesn’t make financial sense,” they said, “unless it’s a very simple tweak.”

The difference between cross platform launch window games will be small, and improved graphics drivers plus the power of the cloud might yet tip the balance in Xbox One’s favour. Nonetheless, at launch, PS4 will be the more capable console.

Confirms what we already know but still a good read.
