The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I didnt understsnd the hype behind ff15 until finally started to play a ff game.
Now the gameplay trailers look dope as hell.
The voice acting seems excellent.
The japanese voices anyway.
If you enjoyed FF XIII then you should go back and cop FF X HD, hands down one of the best FF games ever. Top 3 IMO.

I mean, I was somewhat excited at first, but from what I can tell from the current next-gen games there aren't too many "revolutionary" things going on in game design right now. I just watched a comparison video in which it was shown that GTAIV has better lighting and shadows than WATCH DOGS, for crissakes.

I know that this is Nomura and Square Enix, and it is unlike him to disappoint. But still. Many people bought PS3s (I was not one of those people) just because they wanted to play Versus XIII. I certainly wanted to play it to get the taste of XIII out of my mouth.

Don't get me wrong; I expect two great titles from Nomura, but I'm still a bit salty

The funny thing is that FFXV has little in common with the old FFs from what we can tell. It looks more like a "grown-up" KH than anything. An action game with heavy RPG elements.

Which I thought was refreshing because I thought that the turn-based, separate-screen, ATB style of RPG gaming was getting played out real fast
Like you said, this is Nomura and SE. Say what you want about release dates but this game is going to look beautiful. The graphics are the last thing I'm worried about for FF XV.

Yeah the combat definitely looks different compared to older FF titles but as long as the combat is fluid like the video showed, Ill manage. I love turn based but I realize that I am probably in the minority now.

Holy **** I can literally recommend no other JRPG than this game. This was my first FF and one of my first PS2 games (alongside Jak and Daxter and Spider-Man the movie tie-in). ******* amazing game, man. Literally one of the finest of the decade.

You don't even need to cop the HD edition; the original holds up as a masterpiece thirteen years later

You're not in the minority. I love turn based for games like Pokemon and other handhelds, but with our console technology the way it is, why not push the envelope and develop engaging and satisfying real-time combat systems with all of the nuances of RPG gameplay? KH does it marvelously

The thing to note is that turn-based combat was simply the logical conclusion for 80s RPGs because they followed in the tradition of the earlier, tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. It was based on how many steps taken, chance, all of that, because it was simply impossible to animate or depict the supposed epic battles that were taking place. It obviously became the de-facto way to design RPGs, but we should really incorporate the COD art of insane setpieces into RPGS (don't flame me for that)

I don't have a problem with real-time as long as it's done like Star Ocean: The Last Hope. If I can only control one person at a time then I want to be able to preset my other characters so that they do what I want them to do and not as they feel (The AI in Ni No Kuni was just terrible). I grew up playing turn based so that's going to always be my preference but like you said with technology, I can understand why turn based is slowly fading.

I'm going to platinum Wolfenstein and LR:FF then I think I'm going to get me a sub for FF XIV. My brother keeps telling me to get on with him and his boys, I just feel as if I don't have the time to put in to an MMO.

Get a month and see how you like it. To me, it's the best Final Fantasy since XII. In a month you could get through the main story. The only time you really NEED other people is for a few bosses.

Dang The Order delayed :frown: really liking forward to that one but I don't mind I have a large backlog to get through in the meantime. And for the one who asked if The Division had a time window for launch I think it was for Fall 2014 but nothing was ever really set in stone

An insider said it will be out feb.

My bro just got the trophy for seeker of truth which is supposed to be one of the hardest trophies in the game so he was pretty stoked about it. He sent me pics of him fighting Bahamut and it looked crazy. It was enough to make me want to give it a shot.

Yea, I assume that's the one for completing the Binding Coil. I think hybridsoldier23 hybridsoldier23 has done it on PC.

I wanted to, but I am just not good enough to tank it. I was going to restart but havent had anyone down to play through it again.

The boss battles are so fun. The strategy involved is pretty crazy.

Yep that's the one. My brother tanked it. Playing DC Universe for 3 years really helped him, says that DC is a good MMO for learning. He keeps telling me to get on and that I'll enjoy it. He knows that I like trophy hunting so now he's tempting me with that trophy saying that he'll help me

Also said that the trophy itself isn't too hard because with PS4 you can use party chat and for those with PS3 they just use Skype.

You can't fight Bahamut yet. So maybe he was fighting Twintania? I've cleared The Binding coil Turns 1-8 but haven't cleared turn 9 yet.

Chris, you should get back on and be able to get in a random duty finder group and do Turn 5 if anything just to see the cool cutscene at the end of it. With the echo buff (+15% damage) and nerfing of the boss it's quite easy to get through now.

Speaking of fun fights and strategies here's our video guide for turn 7 which I don't think I posted yet. You can really see how much went into making this fight balanced, creative, difficult, and fun.

Welp, shows you how much I know

I'll upload the pic, I could have swore it was Bahamut from the way he looked.

FF VI, VII, IX, VIII and are all better than FF X IMO. I guess that would leave FF X as the 5th best. Top 5 isn't bad.

I just can't wait for the new MGS V trailer. Kojima said there's no guns, no fighting, explosions, special effects; just a man descending into madness and that it will be harder to watch than the 9 minute Red Band trailer.

1. FF VI

2. FF X

3. FF VII

4. FF IX

5. FF V

#2 and #3 can be switched on any given day, either way those are my top 3. FF VI will always be #1

Yeah, that's a solid list. I really like X, I've been holding off the HD edition for now. Just waiting for a good clear week where I can just sit down and play like the old days.

I might be one of the only people in here actually enjoying Watch Dogs . The game is pretty fun IMO. some of the NPC's are hilarious. I walked past these two dudes in an alley and one of them was freestyling. What's funny is dude actually had flow .

His boy was there vibing with him and commenting like "uh huh, ok" " I see you" lol. Me and my wife were dying

Just curious if anyone here played Transistor? I beat it twice already have about 4 more trophies to get for platinum. It's one of my favorite games of the year. Amazing soundtrack, complex combat, and gorgeous graphics. I highly recommend it.
