I would LOVE to see a video game version of Blood Diamond.
The trailer was awesome! Hopefully that comes into fruition!MGSV sounds like it's going to have some serious Blood Diamond vibes.I would LOVE to see a video game version of Blood Diamond.
The last of us has one of the most engaging stories to date. The story carried the game. I love stories, so I'd want more games to follow suit. Heavy Rain, Uncharted, GOW(to some extent), and GOW(playstation).
Games with good writing are so few nowadays. I tone out the story for so many games that I play, except those that grip me. I want game cutscenes to be like "you better not skip me or you'll regret it." Instead of cutscenes are like "Hey look at these guys talking while carrying big guns. They have to kill something"
Do you guys think consoles will gain more of these story driven games or do you think the pc will get those?
It's crazy to me that since 2007 I can't even list 10 GOOD not GREAT story driven games, whereas with movies, my list is endless.

If you haven't seen this movie, I'll personally ship you my copy.
No Final Fantasy VI or X
I'd prefer good gameplay and atmosphere than a good story in a video game. The reason being, video game writers are complete garbage; they literally have no idea what they're doing when it comes to story telling or how to pace a plot. Books (duh), film, and television are so far ahead of videogames, it's crazy. The only proper way to convey a good story in a video game is through game play and mechanics rather than cut scenes and very few developers can grasp this concept. They don't know how to tell a story without telling a story; the old show, don't tell technique.
It's so hard to compile a list of video games with great stories, there's probably less than 15, but I'll try a top 5.
Silent Hill 2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Chrono Trigger
Shadow of the Colossus
VI is great but I wanted to only include one RPG and X is okay.

I agree to an extent. Maybe if some devs took a risk on creating a good story maybe other devs would hire better writers. But of course those wanting good stories would have to pony up that $60 upon release day.

I asked this question in iYen gaming thread. What makes a good story in your opinion? I guess I'm just simple to please because I have played quite few games with gret storylines imo. After I finished FF X and remembering my journey, I was bout ready to shed a tear during Yuna's speech

To me the simple answer is that the story makes you feel something.I asked this question in iYen gaming thread. What makes a good story in your opinion? Same way I think. That being said, damn near evey Final Fantasy game before FF XIII has left me with those "feels". I agree with your take on Heavy Rain's story, it was one hell of a story but there was hardly any gameplay.

If a game can make you feel, I think it has a great story.
This one part in Heavy Rain, I was screaming at my tv. NO!!!
That's only game that I've played of last gen that has made me do that.
