The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Why do you buy games when you have games you haven't got to yet?
EXACTLY. IT'S NOT LIKE YOU HAVE TO COP THEM RIGHT AWAY IF YOU HAVE A BACKLOG. THE GAMES AREN'T LIMITED.

That's the thing, though. The last game I bought at regular price would have been FFX/X-2 HD. Everything else I buy is either on sale, is exchanged through the site, or is offered free on PS+.

ON PS+ alone I bet I have 30+ games I have yet to get to.

nope tex we want you on destiny. GET IT!!!
 I'm still torn but I think I'm going to hold off. The real test will come on 9/9 when I'm reading about you guys squading up.

Cuz they went on sale. My method before was to just cop a game if it was $5-$10, since it would be that price in a year or so.

Now with free games being given by $ony/M$, now the old game has to be dumb cheap before I cop.

Got dj hero for $2.67 and dj hero 2 for $20.

tldr consumerism

The only time a game is worth getting at release is a multiplayer game or a online focused game like Destiny. You will only enjoy them when the community is thriving, getting them years later is pointless. But besides that, get single player games that you truly want to play at release date, otherwise wait for sales.

I got a backlog that stretches back to SNES. I got burnt games from DC and PSX stil sitting in the CD-R case. My backlog is stupid.

Eight years ago today, Volition introduced the world to Johnny Gat: the badass lieutenant of the 3rd Street Saints with a knack for bloodshed. Over the years, he waged war against the Vice Kings in Saints Row, took brutal revenge for his lost love against The Ronin in Saints Row 2, selflessly sacrificed himself to save his friends in Saints Row: The Third, and triumphantly returned to eviscerate the Zin Empire in Saints Row IV.

Today, on this anniversary, we at Volition are thrilled to announce a new standalone expansion for Saints Row IV in which Johnny Gat must face the only opponent worthy of his extreme reputation: Satan himself.

Fans have been wondering: where we can possibly go after the Saints have conquered the known Universe? Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell is our answer. Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington embark on a quest to save The President/God Emperor of the Universe from Hell’s infernal city of New Hades. After teaming up with former enemy Dane Vogel, they learn The Boss is going to be forced to marry Satan’s daughter! The Saints must conquer the demon-infested city and save their friend before it is too late.

Volition has been working hand in hand with High Voltage Software to create this heroic epilogue to Saints Row IV. For the first time, players can play as their favorite Saints, Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington solo or cooperatively with a friend. This expansion features an open-world city sandbox where players progress the story however they please: medaling on activities, completing diversions, exploring, conquering the city, finding hidden treasures, killing — the possibilities are sure to please!

Our brand new city of New Hades features five distinct islands including a barren wasteland of an ancient war, a towering downtown for Hell’s elite, and a crammed slums built for ultimate suffering. This new environment is specifically catered to one of our new supernatural powers: angelic flight! With angelic wings, our Saints will terrorize the ranks of Hell’s armies from ankle-biting imps to massive Arch-Demons.

Super powers are making a return with supernatural twists from demonic summons to deadly holy auras. A new arsenal of wicked weapons can be found as well as The 7 Legendary Deadly Weapons — each the twisted embodiment of one of the 7 deadly sins! Fans may also find some much needed closure for past friends (And enemies!).

Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell is coming to PS4 and PS3 on January 27th, 2015, and will also be bundled with our new-gen version: Saints Row IV: Re-Elected.

Games get 'backlogged' for me only when it bores me and i dont care to finish it as a priority or if I catch a nice deal on a game (ex grabbing a $40 game on sale for $20 new)

I'm back logged on every game I've ever purchased for ps3. Basically bc I never gotten or care to get a platinum trophy in anything

It's coming, October 14th
Remember people said numbers don't matter? This is what happens when you're getting BTFO. All those exclusives are slowly going to trickle to other consoles and PC because of low sales. At this rate Tomb Raider and Sunset Overdrive are PS4/PC bound, just like Ryse.

Traveling in First Light is so fun. I just spent the first hour going around collecting SP doing side missions.
Hironobu Sakaguchi Fought for a Chrono Trigger Sequel Against Square’s Management, But he Lost
The legendary creator of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger designer Hironobu Sakaguchi spoke at a panel today at PAX Prime, and he revealed a bit of backstory about the plans for a sequel of the adventure of Chrono.

According to Sakaguchi-san, he and the development team wanted to continue Chrono Trigger as a series like Final Fantasy and develop a proper sequel, but they didn’t see eye to eye with Square’s upper management. He explained that he fought for it, but lost the battle, so in the end it never happened.

Can’t say this isn’t heartbreaking news for me, as Chrono Trigger is definitely one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. I’m personally not too sure how someone at Square could have thought that a sequel would be a bad idea, but what do I know?
Final Fantasy Creator Teases on PS4 Version of The Last Story, Talks Future Console Development
The legendary creator of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi spoke at a panel today at PAX Prime, and he gave a few interesting details on his plans on his wishes for the future.

Sakaguchi-san mentioned that it would be nice to be able to work on a continuation of Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey or The Last Story, but there is nothing going on behind the scenes about that for the moment. That said a sequel of Blue Dragon would be a challenge, as the first draft of that story wasn’t accepted by Akira Toriyama.

Asked if there was a chance to see a new The Last Story game , Sakaguchi-san answered in English “Ok, yeah, you talk to Nintendo.”

Then the moderator of the panel asked who in the audience would want to see a sequel of The Last Story on Wii U, and while the audience cheered and applauded, Sakaguchi-san added, again in English, “And maybe PlayStation 4 too?”

Sakaguchi-san was laughing, so he was most probably just teasing the audience, but I can’t say I wouldn’t like to see something like that happen.

About his upcoming smartphone JRPG Terra Battle, Sakaguchi-san explained that he’d love to work on a console version (which will happen if the smartphone game is downloaded at least two million times). For the moment it’s still a rather vague idea, even if the team is committed to it if the goal is reached, but it would be a MMORPG, and since the original game requires to place characters in a line to execute powerful attack, in the MMO for consoles players would possibly have to neatly line up to do the same and really work together with the other party members.

Asked about which consoles he’s planning to work on, Sakaguchi-san clarified that he has no idea yet. It could be PC, Xbox, Playstation or something else. He also mentioned that Nintendo always keeps people on their toes when it comes to new hardware announcements. He’s looking forward to the New 3DS and he hopes to have a chance to work on it as well.

I don’t know about you, but for me it doesn’t matter which console (or consoles) Sakaguchi-san will ultimately work on, but after all those mobile games, I can’t wait to tell him “welcome back” to the big league when that’ll happen.

Not PlayStation related but I thought it was cool that Cloud will be in Final Fantasy Explorers for 3DS

WHAT?!

+ Dino Crisis
Dino Crisis and Parasite Eve were fun in retrospective, Parasite Eve infinitely better than Dino Crisis; you can easily emulate both of them in superb settings with HD resolution and 60 FPS with better textures. Act on your own, don't wait for Sony to charge you money.

I don't get why Hironobu Sakaguchi is crying 20 years later. There already was a sequel to Chrono Trigger called Chrono Cross and it was another classic.

I really think Naughty Dog's next IP should be a Jurassic Park/Dino Crisis type thingy.
