The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

No it didn't. "To each their own"? You're always throwing in jabs to discredit Naughty Dog and the Uncharted series. The original Tomb Raider had nowhere near the complexity of the Uncharted series. There's no way a PS1 would be able to have a game like Uncharted just based on technical limitations. The Tomb Raider series in general never had a lot of the gameplay elements that Uncharted had until the reboot.

The original Tomb Raider games were good for their time, but lets not pretend like they're not overly simple with a sexualized and objectified protagonist that was never meant to be taken as seriously as the characters in Uncharted until the reboot when they gave Lara more practical clothing. There's actually Tomb Raider purists who don't like the reboot because they think the games aren't like the old ones.
I'm a huge Naughty Dog fan and own all of their games including Uncharted 1-3. I just feel Uncharted is one of the most overrated franchises in recent memory.

No it didn't what? Steal the entire premise of Tomb Raider and replace a woman with a middle aged white guy. I don't understand how anyone can argue against this.

Lara Croft was only sexualized in the ads to sell the game. Look at the ads in the 90's, every ad was like this. She was always a great character and revolutionary because of the fact that she was never sexualized and objectified in game by other characters. She was only just a hero and that's why she's always been praised.

A lot of purists don't like the reboot because there isn't the same puzzle solving and enough exploration as the old ones, despite your claim did it did less because of limitations. The old Tomb Raiders are more complex than Uncharted because of that fact. Uncharted is : corridor, room with endless enemies, room with a puzzle, over the top cinematic. Rinse and repeat.

This argument is tired and dead already though. Both are great franchises though: one is more a shooter, the other is more about puzzle solving and exploration.

I rather talk about the awesome Silent Hill revival. I hope y'all get a chance to play tomorrow and we talk about these puzzles.

Still curious to the name. Silent Hill S. Have no idea what the S could possibly stand for.

I agree with EVERYTHING you just said.

But Uncharted 2 > Any Tomb Raider game.

And I was born in 84 brah... so I had them all :D

That said..... I still love Tomb Raider.

I wouldn't have even played Tomb Raider if i didnt get the definite edition on PS4 for $30.  And i got this before it was announced free with psMINUS.  I'll miss a cool game with that new one being an exclusive, but i'm not at all attached to the franchise like I am in Uncharted.  I could not name you another character in the entire TR franchise besides Lara, and I've played them all too since psone.

Whatever man.

I think you're grossly under-selling the Uncharted games and the work Naughty Dog has put into the series. The stories are similar in the way that the protagonists are exploring abandoned and lost areas. Other than that, the motives and backgrounds are different. The primary influence to Uncharted are old pulp action films like Indiana Jones. Which predate the Tomb Raider franchise. You could draw more parallels to those other than Uncharted and Tomb Raider both being video games.

You do a lot more than go through corridors, do puzzles, and watch cutscenes in Uncharted. (EDIT: And the Uncharted games have a large percentage of open areas. Especially in 2 and 3.) The gun combat and the ability to climb a large portion of the environment and also use it as cover. The Prince of Persia/God of War-esque simultaneously vertical and horizontal platforming. The collect-a-thon treasure hunting. The stealth combat. The vehicular levels and combat. The melee combat.

I see where this is going though.

I booted up that PT. I was in the dark wearing my turtle beaches. I didn't even make it past the first puzzle. I kept going thru the door which put me back in the same hallway. That knocking on the door and eerie music was enough for to say to hell with, I'll try again during daylight tomorrow

Quick Tip, you can look closer with R3. You have to look through the crack of the door that opens.

Hahaha I am with a few of you in that I am not built for scary films or games. I think I will just watch a Youtube vid. Happy to see Silent Hill getting it's due though. I played 5 I think (the one where you had the woman help you but she was basically a pack mule). And it was so far gone from what the 1st two were.

Also, Road Not Taken is addicting! I just cant get passed like year 7-8.

Anybody getting PSTV day one? Does it play PS2 games? That's a big deal for me.
Day one for me. I think most games that play on your Vita can play on PSTV. Hard to find a definitive answer for PS2 specifically.

I just know I'll be actually finishing Gravity Rush and Golden Abyss on a tv once it drops.

I hope you dont have to buy Vita memory sticks for that Vita TV

The MMO-TV show tie-in, Defiance, is free.

Its an average game from what reviews say. But.....it's free so why not give it a shot.

I think you're talking about RE5. I remember you could do that with Sheva. I loved that game
