Thoughts about Tan../

I think Tan is ruining NT. The Tan thread is like a general thread inside of a general thread.

General is suppose to be for General topics, and thats what the Tan thread is housing.

whats nothing to one member may be a lot to someone else, and why post something if you think its nothing.

it feels awesome to see new threads, death be to tan

I think it's stupid too, but it isn't causing me any problems. I think Niketalk should have one of those scrolling instant messenger realtime boards on the front page where we can all communicate, that would eliminate the need for TAN.

Yeah... it's not ruining General, at all. 

Pick a random page the last ten and tell me how many great, thread worthy topics are being discussed? Seriously. Do it.

It basically breaks down to a random flow, not unlike Twitter, with a core group who participates in the back and forth. Regular conversations include what people ate, bowel movements, girl problems, and other things like that. Meth put his foot down and it doesn't really cover topics that have a home, so any risk of it becoming a General within General were quelled. It's basically Twitter in General (which should be why Twitter exists).

People encourage others to make threads if a topic seems interesting enough. Other than that, people just assume any natural lull in General is the direct fault of that thread. General got boring here and there before TAN ever existed. So it's still going to happen now.

I just posted a new thread that was discussed in there and was a pretty solid positive topic. It got maybe 8 replies.....go reply to my thread then. Do something constructive. Quit complaining about a problem and be part of a solution.



Everybody want to throw stones....no one wants to use stones to lay a foundation.
 
I'm not a fan of it therefore I seldom use it. An "all encompassing" thread in a place made for discussion is kinda self defeating.
 
I don't mind it.  I post in it on occasion, but I wouldn't mind seeing it get locked for a month or two in order to see if the quality of the general forum actually improves because of it.  Couldn't hurt.

Back when ninjahoods thoughts got too big for his room.

And he deemed it didn't make a difference at all.

It was locked briefly, I don't think much changed.

Despite ninjahood's insistence, General didn't usher in a new golden age of Niketalk where there were epic threads by the dozen on every page. Niketalk has changed over the years, but people blamed the thread like it was the only possible cause. 
 
I don't think it matters.

When people have something interesting to post they'll still make a thread because they want reps/notoriety. TAN is usually just random BS that the majority of NTers wouldn't care about.
 
Locking it for a set period was never going to prove anything. :lol: It's got to be an all or nothing decision.
 
The mainpage has slowed down alot due to tan its like reddit and 4chan combined .General hasnt been the same since it popped off
