The Graphic Design Thread UPDATE: 1st post filled with info. 2nd with NTer's portfolios.

Did you teacher run this exercise by you? I had a teacher that had that on a button and he ran it through us in class. We all said the obvious with a little thinking out side the box. It's so you can think abstractly.

Fork
Tilt
Boil
Salt
@Fongstarr

Nah I actually kinda thought of it myself. I feel good now that you told me that a teacher uses it as an exercise, makes me think that im on to something

looking for a logo designed for my blog.. figured I would bring the work here first. I know kind of what I want PM if interested

I usually look at the pictures of a project and then look at the description. That way when i take it in i can really evaluate if the project communicated what it intended to. That being said, I like the hand done organic type over the structural govt pictures. It starts to explore that visual harmony between the two that evokes interest.

Some of the photos subject matter are unfamiliar; so to censor an image thats already slightly ambigious is kinda treacherous.  I don’t think any of the pics you posted weren’t good, it’s just that I think you could’ve found better, more clear ones.
I see that you’re conceptual thinking is limited to the imagery in the book, and I would challenge you to execute it in the ‘form’ as well. Since its about drones, I would run with the concept of automation. How can you make this form (8x11 saddle stich book) automated or more computer-machine-like? Do cpu’s interpret information or code from right to left or top to bottom? If youre book opened from the top, then it would be more drone-like or like a cpu, follow me?

Might be a bad example but you know what I mean.

Good stuff bro.

Thanks for the feedback man! I just saw this now lol

I know what you mean about the function of the quickbook, but my teacher is a stickler and it HAD TO BE just a normal, regular quickbook lol, so as for form of the book I couldn't do much. As for content, yeah I understand as well, but this is a 6 week course and we have about 1.5 projects every 4 days, so I'm kinda just pumping stuff out lol

i was rearranging files, and found these under a school folder
i tend to drift off in my classes

Can anyone tell me the best way or software or course to learn graphics design?

Lynda.com and/or youtube to learn how to use the programs.

Remember, because you know how to use the programs doesn't mean you're a designer.

In no way am I trying to be a jerk or stop you from learning design. I'm just trying to protect the craft.

If you really want to be a designer, take a class (at a local CC or on skillshare.com) about design. If that's not possible, go to a book store and read up on books about design or go to the library and get books on design.

Design is very methodical, learn why it is.

Also, to add on a little bit. Like he said, the tools don't make you a designer. It's that inner voice of curiosity and ability to solve visual problems. Words like "pretty" and superficiality doesn't have a place. If you need a fundamental Typography book I def have one for recommendation.

Alright peeps, I've moved my website over to squarespace and I gotta say, I love it. Everything is so much easier handled and customizing the way things look has never been easier. Customizing things an for individual looking site is easy. Theres social media integration, e-commerce, and a lot more. PM me if you have any questions or etc.

Just put up a new blog post, the link is in the sig, here are a couple pics from the last two posts.
