Somehow came across the song Ballin on my itunes and haven't been able to get off this dude's music ALL WEEK.

I was content playing his first tape over and over but I saw this thread and peeped pages 8 - 13 and my god at these new jams

:smh: :x

pure fire

I don't know if it's fair to just dismiss him as a clone. His album was released on OVO Sound, so I suppose it's fair to assume that his music would be in the same vein as Abel/Aubs'. Besides, we can't say that the vast majority of hip hop covers exhaustive variety in subject matter either. It's like saying there's no sense in listening to Frank Ocean because his subject matter and tone is similar. Did we not need Al Green or Isaac Hayes because we had Marvin Gaye? I wonder if the comparisons would be so rampant if they weren't all emerging under the OVO imprint, or if they weren't all from Toronto...

I think it's safe to say he's not very lyrically gifted at this point, but I highly enjoy his music :smokin

Good for turning up with joints.

What's crazy is, and speaking from an objective perspective, He was a much better songwriter when he was on his Jahron B. wave. Much more versatile and less shallow / repetitive. However, the music in general, overall just wasn't as good as it is now as PARTYNEXTDOOR.

I agree, songs like Daughter show that he's capable of more lyrically.

I expect him to sort of bridge the gap between what makes his current style work and what he used to do better as he goes.

Being versatile ain't what's moving right now.

He and Drake...and everyone else in a similar light are going to ride the "strip club, young and wild, **** the whole crew" bus until the wheels fall off. You may something different here and there but that's not ingrained into their images.
