Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

I think HDRs look only dope with mondern day machinary. The ones of the muscle care is just dope. I really should try to do one of those one day.....

I'm going away this weekend with the Scout group I'm involved with and we're going to be doing some photography.

We had a sort of classroom session a few weeks back where I taught them about how a camera works and what aperture is and all that stuff. This weekend they aregoing to actually take some pictures to put it into practice.

I need some ideas of things for them to take.

We'll be at our place at the beach:

Should be a lot warmer than that though - that was Christmas 05.

So far I have a list of photographs for them to get:

a portrait
shallow depth of field
speed/movement
contrast
a silhouette (may be difficult as we're doing it in the morning)

Any other good ideas of shots for them to try? Thanks.

^Landscape/Seascape...

And about the silhouette, I think you could do that if you have direct sunlight, if its cloudy it's probably not going to happen but I think more valuablejust playing with exposure both ways shooting for highlights and low-lights seeing the results..

Also if it is cloudy, a good like exercise understanding the value of composition even if on basic level is shoot the sky, like camera pointed straight up. Andsee who's pictures are boring and who's are interesting... If you can compose clouds in to something interesting you're good...

Haven't been in this thread in a while. ebayologist still goin with his expertise. Many thanks.

Just had an idea and thought I'd try it out. What you guys think?

glad to finally be able to participate in this thread...i just got the Nikon D60 w/ the 18-55mm lens, and tomorrow my 18-200 lens is coming in...i used to shotwith my friends Canon 20D from time to time, but this is my first camera...but i really want to learn more about photography then what i learned from him andprior knowledge...is there any websites or books that i should look into checking out???

Thanks. I just used the 18-55mm lens that came with my Canon Rebel. Got as close as I could for it to focus, then took the pic and cropped to the size Iwanted.

How do i put borders?

It's nothing really. I think j20 was the one that said it (and I can second that) but if you have photoshop CS3, there is an option that alligns photos foryou. I used to do manually in photoshop but this thing makes it that much easier and 90% of the time, it is pretty accurate after you erase the edges. Buthonesty after doing panys for the past year, any camera can do it whether it has an assist to it or not. I did that one blind and just kind of rotated at will, taking about 5-6 photo and photoshop pretty much did the rest. The only thing I liked with using the DSLR over the point and shoot is I can take nighttimepanys now that are far more clear......

And to make borders, you need photoshop. Just go into the layers pallete, go to stroke, set the pixals at whatever thickness and make sure to have the strokego inside instead of out......

^ thanks...been trying to figure that out...and I'm pretty good with PS'ing pics.

I used to do it manually but it takes too much time. Layers > stroke > set pixels

^^^I like the 2nd and last one. The 2nd might look interesting if it was a bit dimmer...maybe close the shutter one or two stops. The last pic...the exposureis a little too high on the right side where the leaves are....attracts my attention even though the subject seems to be the water fountain.
