^ There are really great tripods that cost a fortune and there are run of the mill ones that work... If you're going to drop 150+ I'll find some good ones on B&H. Other wise I'd just go with what seems solid and you feel comfortable with...

I have a Bogen/Manfrotto that's like $180 something but it was also a gift. personally I wouldnt spend a ton on a tripod, mostly the super expensive ones are just light and better quality. not a whole lot of feature or other things that make them expensive.

Some of my July 4th pictures. Critique please?

DUNKiSHH, first I would say shooting at night is difficult, you're just adding another peice into the mix. I don't really shoot at night but digital at night might seem hard, well film at night is a @#%$ @#%$ . Generally I would say your pictures are alittle underexposed. I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably no tripod? tripod is must for the night, just is... unless you have robotic hands that can keep them still enough for longer exposures then... An when I say long you don't need super long, but def longer..

1st -the silhouette does nothing for me. I think if the camera was on the other other side of her it would be great. like illuminating her face kinda thing. like fireworks vs. her expression. instead its just fireworks and back of her head..
2nd - arguably my favorite picture but ruined by the bazaar angle. you dont have to shoot everything straight on alittle does alot. also weird angles don't make your pictures more interesting they just make them harder to understand...
3rd - combination of cropped to tight and weird angle and needs better exposure. maybe if you put white boarder it would work better. its like if you shoot the sky in b/w most people would burn in any solid whites that hit the edge so the edge is define. with the black of the image on the black of nt the edge isnt define, makes your underexposure look far worse.
4th - my favorite as is. arguably not a bad photograph. this one i think you can justify the exposure or lack there of with the capture of the motion of the fireworks. feel cropped maybe alittle too tight. and perspective is maybe alittle off the w/ the subject but minor stuff compared to the other images... def the cream of the crop, you're not ansel adams, but a good solid image...

airjordanjack I like the panoramic. The way your image contorts around certain parts reminds me of someone but I can't think of his name. If I think of i'll post, you'd probably like his work..

Only thing is feels like you have some exposure consitency issues around the first window on the right. you gotta keep the shutter speed and f-stop the same all the way around or atleast compensate and even it all out later in photoshop.

and you should go for the 360 next time..

Just been away for a week on a narrowboat trip and took 300 or so pictures. This is one of my favorites. It was on the last night about 11:30 - basically dark outside. 30s or so exposure then I gave the signpost a flash with my big flash handheld.

The colors have faded a bit when I uploaded it but it's pretty close.

Thanks ebayologist. I'll keep in mind the things you said. Here's more from the same night. If you could critique those too it'd be much appreciated.
